In Blood Red Skies, Rob unleashes his full vocal arsenal. We hear every octave, high and low, screaming and singing. It’s not my favorite Priest song, although it does rank high up there, but you can’t deny that his vocal performance in the song is astounding.

My first experience with priest was 3 days after listening to whatever was left of gun's and roses in the early 2000s. I was so disappointed after listening to Axl (I was very young and didn't know much), that was probably 40 or something at the time, that I was wondering what to expect from Halford. My expectations where ridiculously low at that point for a guy that was pushing 60. I was first row, right in front of KK's area. It was the best live performance I've ever witnessed. Ridiculously good. I saw him 3 times more, and next time tomorrow. Never disappointed.

A good song to check out is dreamer deceiver and deceiver from the mid 70s, it is a great display of Rob's vocal range and there is a great live version done for the BBC

@Mystical Pipes Well, yes, but like most of the vocal reactors, she tends to prefer to see and hear the live versions that best represent the voice, wherever possible, so as to see their technique and hear their true voice. Studio versions often have too many studio tricks, hiding the true voice. I agree, Unleashed is a fantastic version, but is there a live video version of that? If there is, I would love to see it! :)

Of course, much of that is pre-recorded tv performances, as was the practice of the day, but sometimes you get pre-recorded music with live vocals, or rarer still, real full live concert footage, of decent quality..

One of his biggest talents isn't just his fairly massive range, but that ability to instantly go to a super high wail from anywhere in his range. There is zero transition if he wants to skip it. Just hanging out in the middle, then wham, it's like a guitar bend almost.

Between the three of them, they basically inspired the vocal stylings for power metal. Which in itself is an incredible genre and shows what they all brought to the world of music.

He is known as the Metal God for a reason. The absolute best Metal singer of all tim. His range was insane. You need to react to more songs from rhe 80's to know his voice because'this is just an example. He gets better. Extremely talented🙏✨✨✨

He's not trained. Dio, Bruce and Eric Adams are better. They're the top 4, imo, Rob's lack of teaching is his only drawback (E.G. Pushed lows, strained highs)

Rob Halford is my favorite singer. I got into Judas Priest when I was 14. I'm almost 46 now and I still love it, especially because of that magnificent voice 😊

I took my son and daughter in law to see Judas Priest in Vegas 3 years ago and when they did "Halls of Valhalla", Rob Halford's voice stunned everyone on how amazing it was. Literally everyone just stood there in amazement. I first saw Judas Priest in 83 at the US Festival and almost 40 years later, Halford was still blowing people's mind with his incredible voice. Even people I know that hate metal praise him.

It is almost like Rob Halford has somewhere between 3 and 5 voices or modes he sings in. He truly is and always has been an amazing singer. The amazing thing is that he smoked cigarettes for years and had a crappy diet. About 10 ir so years ago, he stopped smoking and started eating better, and his voice became stronger. He is 70 years old and still out there killing it. Thanks for the reaction / review video.

Not 5 octaves. Different modes or tones that he uses. He can instantly switch between a high voice with a lot of grit to a low and clean voice and shift right back. He's developed a great global compression. I don't know what type of training he's had, but it's obvious he's had some type of training in order to have lasted this long.

Rob halford is the metal God. I saw them Last summer and it was amazing he is still going strong in his 70's, his voice sounded great.

As far as saying that Rob isn’t singing loudly, I read that he’s been known to destroy the reeds in microphones. There are many other songs that showcase his range. Long live the Metal God🤘🏻

Rob has always been the icon of metal and pioneer of intense high pitched vocals.

You should dig deeper into this group. You will be amazed how each and every album can be so different and so amazing. Great reaction btw!

Rob Has a range that is hard to actually.believe. there's a reason he's so well loved in metal, not just for how talented all of Priest is(they are) but because of how much their music can bring folks in to metal. I'd highly recommend if you're curious two songs, their cover of Diamonds and Rust, and my personal favorite of their songs, Electric Eye. Both are great places to see what I mean about Judas Priest being a great spot for folks to come in to Priest. Having SEEN Judas Priest live in 2022, he STILL is impressive today. Man did this song at the end of an hour long set, and I was shocked the drummer didn't damn well die.

Judas Priest was my first "favorite" band, and remained that way for many years. Now it's BABYMETAL. Who could have ever guessed. I've seen priest live 6 times, and in the old days Halford would hit such high, powerful pitches that it would hurt your ears.

50 years that Judas Priest (worthy successor of Black Sabbath) sows Heavy Metal in the world. Its singer, Rob Halford is not an impostor, but the engine at 50% in this group. Respect to Metal God, living legend at 71! 👍

So awesome to see you analyze Halford. He’s kind of the one in a million exception. Everyone who learned to do this healthily?, owes it to him, but he actually originated his sound from being required to scream over Top of the band thru the PA, in the early/mid 70s when “monitors” were still an underdeveloped technology

Limitations create art.

This song is not typical of Priest, and Rob doesnt always sing that high. This album was kind of an experiment.. and kind of a way for Priest to compete with the harder metal (Slayer, Metallica,, Megadeth, Pantera) that was starting to become popular in the late 80s and early 90s. These guys had been around since the late 60s so this was their way of saying "were still more metal than you".

Listen to the beginning of the ripper. Robs been hitting those high notes for decades.

Painkiller was a "comeback" album by Priest, that probably saved their reputation at one of the world's first proper heavy metal bands, as well as their future in what would soon become a difficult time for metal. It's easily their most relentlessly aggressive album, securing their position after a drift into lighter, more commercial territory through the 80s. Rob's influence on metal vocalists, and the band's on metal in general is immeasurable.

Painkiller live is the most metal experience you can have. It’s bone shattering loud!!!!

As a long time Halford fan I suggest "Here Come The Tears" into "Dissident Aggressor" from Sin After Sin, really illustrates his full vocal abilities and range

Halford is a beast! I saw the Priest first in 82 and last in 2022 and Rob has been the concomitant vocalist throughout all these years in live performances. He’s without question one of the all time best vocalist!

Who knows Judas Priest well and is just discovering these reaction videos and getting a big kick out of people hearing PAINKILLER for the first time? 😁😁 I last saw Priest in 08.

if you are impressed by him from the late 80's and 90's you should listen to the live album unleashed in the east from 1979 and you can hear him live in his prime and your minds will be blown! he hits notes that you would consider impossible and his voice was smooth and less raspy. judas priest has been one of my favorite bands since the 70's and they to this day have yet to disappoint. iron maiden is another band with an amazing vocalist bruce dickinson... another of my favorites since they first hit in 1980.

I saw them in 2014 or 2015 and he hit so many high notes I thought the windows were going to shatter. One of the best metal singers ever.

Make no mistake Rob Halford could sing any form of music . I’m glad he chose Metal. He is a Legend and Priest is easily my fav band. There is several songs y’all could check out but do this. After he left Judas Priest he formed Halford which was a tpreturn to Metal for him.look up Halford live in Aneheim California and enjoy. I have been a fan for over 40 yrs and even in his 70’s now he is amazing.

One of the greatest rock/metal singers who ever lived, from an era chock-fill of fantastic singers. And one hell of a showman, too.

You should follow him on social media. He is an absolute hoot. Lovely guy with a fab sense of humour.

Check out Blood Red Skies for both spectrums of Rob's vocals at his best (studio preferred). Other artists to check out: Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name live at Hammersmith, Queensryche - Take Hold of the Flame, live in Tokyo, & Steelheart - She's Gone (studio or live. The earlier, the better). These are all magical performances.

He's just as amazing, strong, loud, and controlled singing live!! Rob IS the Metal God!!

An underrated vocalist you guys should listen to is warrel dane from the band sanctuary. His voice has a lot of versatility I'd recommend the songs die for my sins, battle angels, future tense, or seasons of destruction. First 2 songs and last 2 songs are from different albums

Eh his voice was always hit or miss for me, his falsetto and very heady mix is always a miss for me.

I really enjoyed your reaction. Judas Priest is one of my all time favourite bands and Rob Halford is one of my all time favourite singers. There are some amazing Heavy Metal singers out there that don’t get the recognition that they truly deserve. If you’re going to go down this rabbit hole, I highly recommend Iron Maiden with Bruce Dickinson, Queensryche with Geoff Tate, Helloween with Michael Kiske, Metal Church with Mike Howe and Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio. some power house vocals for sure. Highly recommend you ladies also check out: Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden), Floor Jansen (Nightwish or solo), Tommy Johannson and Ronnie James Dio. Also Robs acoustic performance at the end there, some of it reminded me of Neal Diamond.

It never gets old seeing Glen and KK's synchronized head banging. So grateful I got to see em in Montréal in 2015. I always found Robs voice is like a guitar string from low E to high E and even in 2015 he sounded as good as on the albums!!

Judas Priest is a band of so many faces and facets after more than 50 years of their career. Painkiller is one the extreme end of the spectrum, a very different performance than something like Desert Plains from the Point of Entry album. Rob Halford has so many voices - enjoy them whaen you get there 🙂

You should listen to Ronnie James Dio. He had a great voice. Man on the Silver Mountain is a good one to start with.

This song single-handedly reenthroned this band as THE METAL GODS.

I'm 59 I was a big priest head. Still am since the 1980s! They are the Metal God's.

Both of his books in the last few years are fabulous. His journey toward being a very natural ambassador of the LGBTQ community speaks volumes to his perseverance. His voice is the undisputed champion of the genre, and as you might expect his narration of his first book is a genuine pleasure beyond the literary content because his voice is simply lovely. I've been fortunate to see them live many, many times spanning 39 years.

Even though I love Painkiller like every Priest fan, if you really want to hear Rob's best vocal performances you need to listen to Victim of Changes (live ideally) or Riding on the Wind (live)

I saw Priest last year. Rob had a tough night. Be he was a performer. Great LOUD show.

Yup, Rob is our metal god! He's been doing this since the early 70'es and still today his voice are still strong and among the best. But in the late 70'es and early 80'es he was untouchable. I'll recomend two live performances. The song "Sinner" live in 1982 and "Dreamer / Deciever" live in 1974.

Y'all should check out Beyond the Rhelms of Death off of the Hell Bent for Leather Judas Priest album, or a live version. He goes from super low (for him) to super high. It really shows off his range.

Love the cut in's because in one video you capture as much as anyone can. I have Rob at the top over everyone because metal allows everything from A to Z and he can do A to Z like no one else.

If you've not heard Bruce Dickenson of Iron Maiden then that would seem like you'd be more than pleasantly surprised. Ronnie James Dio is Also incredible and probably not what you'd expect.

If you're interested in other amazing Metal Vocalists with fantastic technique you can't go wrong with. 1. The 80's live version of Hallowed Be Thy Name by Iron Maiden 2. Sleepless Nights - Live at The Fillmore by King Diamond Both highlight the absolutely stunning range of these singers, and the story telling they employ in their lyrics.

Every Judas Priest album is it’s very own experience. Rob Halford has an amazing range. This guy is second to none. Painkiller which is a great song and album is only a glimpse at this guy’s amazing voice.😉

Their new songs “Trail by fire” and “Crown of horns” sound as good as they did 40 years ago. Halford still sounds incredible at 70 years of age.

Some Iron Maiden live performances

If you think Rob Halford sings high... check out King Diamond (Sleepless Nights live at the Filmore is a popular song people react to).. King Diamond's voice is operatic... Extreme highs and deep growls.. If you grab a random song, don't expect it to make much sense.. His albums are almost concept albums that tell a horror story over 5-18 songs.. and like Rob Halford, King Diamond is approaching 70 and singing better now than in the 1980s and 90s!

Halford's voice is so powerful, he's been known to blow out mic ribbons. Fact!

You should watch a recent live video of him singing this song. Its 30 years old and he is in his 70's and still nailing it. That's why they are the metal gods . Metal gods is a 40 year old song and his lower range is just as spectacular!!

I watch almost every Painkiller reaction. It's so entertaining hearing people hear a song that I was in to 30 years ago.

People call Rob the metal God but they know they are JP and sing for the Metal God!

Saw Judas Priest every time they were in Western NY from 1980-1987 and Halford always KILLED live. He's also a very nice guy and pretty funny.

I saw them august 21st 1988 at Castle farms in Charlevoix Mi. It was one of the best concerts I've ever seen, and Rob's voice sounded amazing.

I've seen priest live a few years ago and I must say rob still kills it and can still get just as high as ever

I first saw Judas Priest at New York's Palladium theater in 1978 in the warnup slot for Angel. Rob never backed off full intensity in those days either, and they comfortably flattened the headliners.

one album that brings Rob's vocal chops is Unleashed in the East, one of my fave Priest albums, dude brings it in that album

I had the privilege to see Priest in 1989 and I could not hear clearly for 3 days. They were amazing. Sounded better live than the recording.

I can only recommend to ANYONE who is fascinated by Judas Priest's Painkiller vocally, to check out the cover of the same song by the band Death. Because Chuck Shuldiner also was a Metal God and damn, did he slay on that song!

The isolated vocal track is on youtube and it's amazing. For a better example of his range, check out "Victim Of Changes live US Fest 83".

I'm always up for seeing the delight on someone's face when they hear Rob's range and prowess. Gives a warm feeling that one of my favorite all time bands is honestly appreciated by yet another generation.
