Love you all. Thanks for all the love : )
A little bit about me..
Rebecca is a passionate Singer-Songwriter/Vocal coach/mentor /impressionist/photographer/creative junkie /self- development lover not a hater.
“I want to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams…corny? Well, maybe but it’s true. So what’s motivating me?? I had a huge tumour removed summer 2016. However, despite not being able to walk for a few weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and try to practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…we are all specks of dust…Also, thank you for all your support. It means a lot. I have suffered from anxiety from the past and self-confidence, (yeah hard to see now right) didn’t think I was ‘good, or worthy enough’ but I feel I have a new lease of life, don’t really care as much and want to show you guys what I have! : ) You are all awesome and without you, there would be no channel.

    And this song isn't even a good example of her normal singing or growling. By the nature of the lyrics, it's deliberately going from ultra controlled soft to her deepest growls. She can do anything in between, including completely different musical styles, from Raggae to Jazz to lounge singing. Before she got into metal bands and when she was in school, she did some bar and lounge singing to make some dough. And apparently this lady has had 0 singing lessons in her life, in part because she's really extremely introverted and because where she's from isn't really a place where making money is easy and music lessons cost a freakin lot. It's all raw talent boosted by years of self exploration of where her reach is and self learning by listening to music and textual and online resources. She's a big fan of Amy Whinehouse (has a huge tattoo on her arm of Amy too). If you go trough their entire repertoire, you'll find that in her clean voice, she's touched the sound of Kylie Minogue, Gwen Stefanie, Amy Whinehouse, Miley Cyrus, Madonna, the singer of Guano Apes (who she's a huge fan of too and whom she got the stage presence style from). And that's not all, there's a crapton of male led bands she said she was a big fan of (Soundgarden for instance). She's done her homework, has the talent, the control, the mastery and the sheer drive of will and emotion to go any place she wants. And if her singing isn't mindblowing enough, her freakin lyrics are also next level. She's got one hell of a mind and language skills (which is weird since her english actually sounds very broken at times). Man, this girl just gives me chills every time I see her bounce around a stage.

Learn to sing, learn how your voice works, how to use your cords correctly, then you can start to learn more technical skills. I started learning to sing when I was 16, to scream when I was 19. I mean, screaming isn't nearly as impressive as actually singing well. I practiced screaming about 10 years ago and was surprised at how quick you can make progress. Singing on the other hand takes so much practice its ridiculous. Shes still very talented, but more so because of the singing.

  • @DETHdressedInRED

    @DETHdressedInRED

    5 жыл бұрын

    You might have made progress, but it's very likely that if you'd continued at that rate you would have damaged you're voice. Screaming/growling takes years of learning and must be paced in order to be done right, and also still requires some trained skill vocally before even trying in the first place. It's not easy, and is easily comparable to your regular good singing.

I always rested my voice when it got sore, but about 2 months in, I could go through a whole album. Ive been practicing clean vocals for a few years and progress is MUCH slower. I've got some frank Sinatra stuff down in lower keys, but mid to high falls off pretty bad.

    You said multiple times across the video that you felt like crying. Since you are a vocal coach you probably know this already but what you experienced is a phenomenon called "frisson" (French word for shivers) which is often felt when listening to music, it means that the part of your brain that processes feelings and emotions is deeply intertwined with the part that processes sounds! As someone who also never really listened to metal, it's great to know that I wasn't the only one getting shivers and crying during this song!

    For all of you who are wondering, it's a sensation felt by approximately 35-40% of the population (these are estimations made by researchers in the matter), so it's quite more commun than you think! And it applies to all types of music, classical music being the most typical and documented, but also games and movies' soundtracks. For example, I went to the Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience this year and you can bet that I cried. A lot. And so did the other 50.000 people in the arena.

    In metal we have a lot of great vocalists. Try Grace by Devin Townsend and Anneke van Giersbergen. Please dothe live version of The Retinal Circus concert. Its fun to watch, and it truly is a circus! Fun fact: Tati of Jinjer doesnt warm her voice and never had a single singing lesson in her life.

    It's very very easy to find it, either you get it or not, so if it's sounding not at all like a growl then it isn't right. Once you find it just keep doing (everyday if it feels right) and it'll get better and better

  • @Celatra

    @@lookingforgg you HAVE to sing clean too. Growling is unnatural and can destroy your voice if your foundation isn't strong. And even if it is it can still do. Be cautious. Don't growl more than max 30 minutes/ day.

    @@rva Yeah, most people trying to do that for the first time just make a squeaking noise and then get VERY self-conscious...like all singing, a person needs to develop the confidence to go through with it. When you have traditional training, it actually goes a long way with harsh metal vocals.

    @@cruinnannuin8925 Yes, this. It's what I'm telling everyone who asks me how I got my guttural vocals nailed: never be ashamed, afraid or too self-conscious with your vocals. Find a place where you can sing with complete confidence to practise so you don't inhibit yourself. Otherwise it will always stay at your named "squeaking noise".

    @chad creamer Yeah, gutterals are generally pretty safe to pull off. It's the harsher screams that can hurt you. I dabble in growls, but I don't mess with higher range at all. Way to painful.
