When Chris Cornell is blown away by your singing, you're Jeff Buckley.

Yeah his first band he was in was metal and he used to have lots of dildos on stage with him lol. I am not joking. His father was a famous musician he barely saw. His first band was nothing like his music of later years. Great musician but he would of done anything to be famous. It wasnt his first attempt and he didnt care what he made it for.

Yeah but the guitar parts under the singing is dead simple in the verse/chorus and only slightly more difficult during the pre-chorus/bridge. His vocals are outstanding, but the addition of these guitar parts doesn't add any extra value. In fact, I'd wager it'd be harder for him to sing this stuff without a guitar in his hands.

Eh? For real though, the guitar parts are simple as fuck, but tasty - and on purpose. He's giving himself room to move vocally. And guys who are guitar players first have an easier time singing with a guitar in their hands than they do a capella. I ain't hating, I just don't fully agree with your enthusiasm.
@TanguyBlanchard
5 жыл бұрын
Dale Noble of course it’s easier without a guitar. Do you think he had an unplugged guitar with him in the studio while recording the vocals or something? What are you saying? What is ‘it adds no value’ supposed to mean?
@george9822
5 жыл бұрын
Dale Noble can you sing as good as him? I can understand an average singer playing guitar but a guy like this can do better without a guitar because he is a better singer than a guitar player
This has to be his best performance of Grace. Before the start of this performance, the announcer associates and compares him with his father Tim Buckley, who abandoned Jeff. They only met once, and Jeff was forever compared and overshadowed by his fathers legacy during his lifetime. He flips two big birds when this is mentioned behind the announcer! I believe he took this as a moment to give it everything he had, and use the anger suddenly brought up by the comparison to his father to try to put the naysayers in their proper place.

It should be noted just how difficult it is to sing like this AND play as incredibly well as Jeff was able to at the same time is a whole skillset on it's own. We lost a real kindred spirit when he died... great reaction all around Beth, been waiting for this one :)
Jeff is simply amazing. I love the 'Live at Sin-e' album, my fave. You really get the showcase of his musicianship with the live performances. His guitar playing really shines along with his phenomenal voice when it's just him and a guitar in the cafe.

Yeah, people always go on about his voice which undoubtedly was ridiculously brilliant, but understate just how great a lot of his guitar-work was, I've learned a few of his songs, "Lover you should have come over" being one I come back to time and again...I can PLAY that song quite comfortably, but even thinking of singing while playing all the flitty suspended and over chords necessary to make it worth listening to is just way, WAY out of my wheelhouse. The progression is relatively simple, a D into a Cadd9 to an Em sort of thing but Jeff is constantly fluctuating around within those chords to add character, the D is hammering from a standard to a Dsus or Dsus6...the Em is using his upper strings to flit into Em9, Emadd9 and so on, it's never just one chord with the guy, he'll flit around into three or four variations to paint a musical picture. I can play it readily enough now (after quite a long time practicing) but his pulling that off and then singing with the melismatic , floaty brilliance he brings to his performances is just unreal. Guy was an unparalleled singer, a REALLY good guitarist and an absolutely peerless songwriter...

WOW! Watching Jeff sing this live gave me chills head to toe. Thank you so much Beth for doing this. Jeff is one of my all-time favorites. We lost him way too soon.
Him dying so early was an unbelievable tragedy. We lost a true angel. Not only is his voice transcendent, but, I mean look at him, he has an uncanny angelic aura to him. An indigo child aura to him. Such a loss.
There’s truly no one else like Jeff. Nobody can sing his songs the way he does. What a beauty. Bless him
This guy's singing is not only one of the big things to inform another of my all time favourites, Thom Yorke, but this track, in particular, was one of those stand out moments in my life that just stopped me dead in my tracks. 26 years later, and it *still* has that power. Can you *imagine* what this kid would have achieved by now. His, was a sad loss to music and those that love it.

❤️🔥🕊Irreplaceable Jeff Buckley. I saw him live in Australia on his Grace tour. There are so words sufficient to pay tribute to his mastery or his mystery. The sheer glory of that voice pulls us into the sky with him where we might soar or burn in those darker guttural growls. He’s an Angel of darkness and light and one of the greatest musicians this planet has ever had the privilege to experience.

Ah what a time it was, this for me was the absolute best time to be alive, the beginning of Grunge and everything that came along side it. Thank you universe for allowing me to be alive to experience THIS! I couldn't have wished to have been born at any other time. I had experienced Floyd, Zepplin, Hendrix and all those other ground breakers from my dad's record collection and then to witness this music era was absolutely a gift! This was the first time I ever heard Jeff Buckley and let me tell you I could feel every single emotion in every bar. I was screaming every note! I immediately bought the album and absorbed every track, and as you well know this album has the best rendition of Hallelujah ever recorded! This performance blew me away, I couldn't believe live music could sound so complete! He died too young and well before we had heard the best of him, like many others before and since! What a song, what an artist!

So emotional! He's so unique🖤 I loved this react!! Thank u, Beth!
Good on you for covering him Beth. It's hard not to feel a pang of indignation, even now, that his life was extinguished in the ascendance of his genius. Such a beautiful man, with a beautiful spirit. And in his singing - is this far-fetched? - he is like Damish's American cousin. There aren't many artists that merit the comparison, but Jeff Buckley has that same facility with his voice, and the courage. A son of famous musicians too. Perhaps that extreme musicality is something bred and nurtured from an early age. Rufus Wainwright would be another example.
I was lucky to have seen Jeff live. This just took me back there over 20 years later.
7:55 she is scared shitless because she can't describe how he sang nor can she teach it. Raw emotion and something that cannot be emulated.
I've been wanting you to do this one. What a great surprise!

He was a ridiculously good guitar player too...could do all the Steve vai stuff if he wanted to
and now we enter the realm of sublime..
