@@IkmelAAA in my opinion he his guitar playing was so good it undervalued how great a singer he was. Most people just saw him as a guitarist. Very rare a guitar player of that caliber can sing so well

Stupid Rollin' Stone didn't even put him in their top 100. Yet put Jimi Hendrix at the top, a man who had only a few decent tunes and, in the main, played a guitar upside down and that's it. Very sad!

This man was a Guitar God, and you can really feel the pain in this song both through the verses but especially through the guitar. Amazing artist that left us way too soon.

This is one of those songs that you wish would never end. That wailing guitar is otherworldly. If this doesn’t move you to tears, you aren’t human.

An absolute legend and he played with his soul

Thank you Beth. I've been a fan of his since his Thin Lizzy days. It's criminal how unappreciated he is in general and in America in particular. If more reactors start featuring him maybe that will change. You opened my ears to how much his singing is influenced by his bends and vibrato with which he plays guitar!

If you want more Gary Moore I suggest "Parisienne Walkways" live in Montreux from 2010. His guitar playing in that one make you forget to breathe at times.

Better version at One Night in Dublin, 2006. He doesn't overplay as much, which is very important. Gary was a phenomenal guitarist but sometimes could be guilty of overdoing it. The Montreux performance is an example of that.

I'm pleased that Gary's voice was highlighted here. I first noticed him when this song came out, and it soon became apparent to me that his vocals were as soulful as the emotional virtuosity of his guitar playing. The few years including and following this song were amazing - the album After Hours has some wonderful highs - and I have an unofficial live CD (Blues from a Gun) from this period. His vocals at that time, to me, surpassed the clip you chose but your choice still presents the raw emotion that keeps him alive in our hearts. Thank you.

As I sit here with my jaw on the floor as he absolutely shreds that final solo, I ask myself: how did I make it this far in life without ever hearing about this guy???

I "discovered" him in 2020 when I "discovered" Thin Lizzy at the 2005 concert for Phil. I was 69 years old! I ask myself that question too.

Thank you for this Beth. Gary Moore is and always will be one of my favorite musical artists. So happy to see your reaction to this man who turned his torment into something ethereal for the rest of us. So sad that it got the better of him. 😢

Gary Moore was one of the greatest guitar players of all time. He had an unbelievable command of the strings.... He met with a tragic end and was taken from us too, too soon. I love to watch how he can run through complicated riffs super fast and never look at the frets...

I saw him two months before he died, he made the guitar cry, and when you hear it, just gets you there, so much emotion.

He wasn't just a singer. But he was a BEAST of a guitarist. A friend of mine introduce me to Gary Moore in his wild frontier album concert on VHS. Of course, this was the early 2000s and I was in my mid teens at the time. And I must say, Gary Moore is one of them greatest guitar players I have ever seen.

Gary’s been one of my favourite singer-guitarists since the 80s. Fantastic player, and underrated singer. Thanks for giving him his due!

One of the greatest gutiarists ever. All you need to say, really. I have had the songs opening as a ringtone on my phone for years, so I hear it several times a day and still love it.

Really nice reaction to a great guitarist. Throughout his career (that I followed for decades) he really improved his singing and, when he went in this blues direction, I think he really found his voice. The thing is, his playing is so good, it kind of overshadows his singing. Really good insights onto how musicians sing like they play.

Gary's version of Peter Green's blues song Need your love so bad is in my view one of his best performances.

Gary is an often underrated guitarrist but this video remembered me how an underrated singer he also is!

I've seen a video of Gary performing the same song a number of years ago, I think it was filmed in a much larger venue. It has been said by some people that Gary's voice wasn't the best but when you can make a guitar sing like that then you don't have to have the greatest voice in the world. Gary was an exceptional guitarist and for me, this was his greatest song. Whenever I hear it I just imagine that somewhere in the guitar's being, those notes were waiting to be discovered and Gary was the one who was able to find them and bring them forth. I think this is one of those songs where whoever tries to cover it, the song will sound fine or even great, but they will never be able to tap into the same passion that Gary was able to bring out of his guitar.

He was amazing! He could shred and also play so delicately, and new exactly when to do each of them. And man could he sing! Gone too soon.

I cannot believe I missed this. Gary was a favorite since the early 80s for me. I had all his stuff....being Irish and knowing how he brought the struggles of his Northern Ireland heritage to the forefront. This is late in his life....check out Empty Rooms...live version...different side of the coin..... A true favorite

I always love when he flips from rhythm pickups to treble. Changes the whole dynamic of the solo

Looks like Brian Downey on the drums. Brian was the drummer for Thin Lizzy until the breakup of the band. Brian continued to work with Phil Lynott on solo projects, and Gary Moore on numerous projects.

Considering this was a live performance when he was much older . This was recorded in 1990 with “ A Little Help From My Friends” George Harrison .

Nobody moves me more than Gary Moore. Such an amazing talent and ferocious guitar player.

Gary Moore, the best guitarist ever.

I've heard many singers say their voice is their instrument; with Gary Moore, his instrument was his voice. There's a lot of guitar players I admire but he is always near the top of the list, very few have been able to replicate the soul and passion he seems to extract from 6 guitar strings. And let's not even get into his ability to sustain a note without any effects help for a seemingly impossible length of time.

Sometimes its sad to see that todays youngsters only regonize MJ as a legend, while we have so much legendary music in our treasure chest. Just talk to your parents and ask their favorites and you find a whole world of awesome legendary music.

Gary is singing this song quite a bit differently to how he used to sing it when he had younger vocal chords, but he's still nailing it. It's worth watching an earlier video to compare this to.

Sorry if I’m late to the party, but you should react to one of his early versions in 1990 or so when his voice was in better condition! So soulful! Nearly as incredibly spectacular as his incredible guitar work!

Awesome that you've featured Gary, and let's hope that this introduces him to a whole new audience outside of his existing fans. I'm just into double-figures for times seeing him live (so sad that I won't have the chance to do that again), and I've always felt he was a raw and unrefined vocalist, but he makes it work and delivers, and sometimes he really surprises you !

Experienced his talent in Stockholm with Colloseum, he was then only 18 years old. He was a free spirit-the best!! RIP Gary!

Beth...thankyou so much for doing this reax video. The first concert I went to in '77 was Queen with opening act Thin Lizzy. As luck would have it Gary was in that touring version of Thin Lizzy. My guitar playing started roughly a month before that show, and I had no idea who Thin lIzzy was or Gary Moore for that matter, however what he did that night so overwhelmed me that my recollection of Queen as spectacular as they were is completely over shadowed by Gary's performance. He probably respresents 75% of my playing influence. Now, to Still Got The Blues...The song is autobiographical. Don't recall all of the facts but this song is about a personal relationship from his past when the song was written around 1990. Gary, without effort combines tender, delicate moments that sail right into and out of pure rage. I've always thought of his playing and singing as a approaching ocean storm, meaning that there are little tells early on of whats to come and then it desends upon you, throws you around and then easily leaves. This is excatly what he did here vocally and obviously with the guitar. He was light years better than almost all of his peers but just did not have the recognition and is criminally underrated. In his youth he grew up in Belfast, saw The Troubles and celtic rage is a driving force in so much of his work and it fhe connection of that to his fingers & soul is continuous..he channels every bit of that emotion everytime.

Beth, I onced played this as a simple guy coming on stage, on night at the old marquee club with Gary Moore (circa 1991) I played backing guitar, (even though I wasn't introduced celebrity) quite right too. (I have the photos) Gary was a lovely man (sadly missed)

Great reaction and analysis. The song is an absolute classic, is is the riff and solo. I've heard this song quite a few times, but I've only just noticed that the riff and most of the solo bear quite a resemblance to the chorus of Lionel Ritchie's Hello. Both are beautiful songs, so I'm not complaining. I just never expected to catch a similarity.

You should check out the version of this song from Montreaux Jazz Festival in 1990 (it's also on KZread). He was younger, and his voice was in Pristine condition. He could really hit those higher notes without any difficulty. This is a bit later

@@foolsjourney8118 First time I heard this song (studio version) on the radio, the long guitar solo evoked every emotion I had felt 20 years before when the woman I was in love with left me. It had everything, the surprise, the sadness, the begging, the eventual despair. I was long over her but this solo brought it all back.
