Even more mind blowing is the fact he’s left handed
For your information, Gary Moore is a true guitar master. He has an extensive background in "heavy metal" and "progressive jazz fusion" music, dating back to the late '60s. His career is long and storied.

Saw Gary at the Marquee in London in the early 80s 3 foot from stage. Geoff Whitehorn knew him when they where kids in london he said his playing made you cry….
Gary is trully one of a kind, he was my hero growing up in the 80's. FYI the reason he has so much control using his middle finger and having "the strength of 10 men in each finger" as you said is because he learnt to play using very thick strings. Nobody told him any different, he just assumed every guitar was "that hard to play". If you get a chance, dig up Parisienne Walkways live, there's a version he does on stage with Phil Lynott. There's one note in his solo there that makes my hairs stand up. Again, as you say, he can put so much emotion in one note that other guitar players need a whole scale. RIP Gary

I've been playing for 40 years, pro for 30 and have been lucky to have worked with some great named musicians. This is beyond doubt the best guitar performance ever. The Les Paul (the Peter Green which is in now in the wrong hands!) was on ice for 2 days after so I heard.

I was familiar with Gary Moore from the 70s and his work with Thin Lizzy. I knew some of his solo work like Still Got the Blues but it wasn't until a few years ago during the covid lockdown that I started watching KZread and this young 10 yr old Taj Farrant playing Parisienne Walkways. I started listening to more Gary Moore. Taj is 15 now and when asked who he wants to play jam with that he hasn't already he always says Gary Moore because he's his favorite guitar player ever. Since he can't his next choice is Eric Steckels. Taj's favorite song to perform at his shows is Parisienne Walkways. Taj keeps changing the solo after the sustain a bit. I enjoy watching him play to see how he's going to add or lay back on the songs on his playlist. A very dynamic performer. He's opening a few shows for Buddy Guy, was guest performer at Prince's 40th release party for Purple Rain, playing at several festivals, selling out his own shows, getting ready to release his first album in August and has had 6 original songs on it go to #1 on iTunes blues charts and he's going to be a performer on Joe Bonamassa's blues cruise next year. See what Gary started! The sky is the limit with Taj. To be fair he did decide he wanted to play guitar when he was at an AC DC concert and saw Angus Young. He got a guitar for his 7th birthday and here he is 8 years later playing better then a lot of guitar pros.
Your dissection of Gary's playing was top notch my man, Gary was an absolute genius, i feel i don't need to say anymore. I totally appreciate your comments, i truly do❤️

Greetings and Love from Germany again. Awesome reaction, buddy. THE MESSIAH WILL COME AGAIN.... More feeling, emotions, extraordinary talent, expression, stage presens, showmanship, love for playing his instrument, passion to inspire and delight your fans, is not possible. Only Gary can do that, in my opinion. I was lucky enough to see him live on stage once. Here in Cologne, Germany on his "After the War" tour in 1989. Before he switched to the Blues. Unimaginable and unforgettable experience and defently a lifechanger for me. But hey, i really appreciate the fact that you haven't said a single word about Gary's death but only about his music and his skills and that shows me what kind of person you are. And you know so much about guitar techniques, amazing, but above all very helpful for me. I have no idea about it and therefore can't usually assess certain parts correctly. 'Was that something that only 2 or 3 guitarists could do? Does this sound so unbelievable, but it is very easy to play? And if someone like you, with your knowledge, is already amazed and can only shake his head, then I know. You're awesome, my greatest respect and thanks for that. I've experienced completely different reactors. Those who think they are allowed to judge Gary because they have read rumors and speculation somewhere in the dirty press regarding his drinking behavior and his death. Those are the worst. They make me just wanna puke. I have been friends with Gary's youngest sister Patricia for over 5 years and I know the truth. And I can only say one thing: People, please don't believe anything that's in the newspapers or magazines. Let the private side of an artist be the private side. I wish you and your loved ones a peaceful weekend. And stay safe...

Mentioned it before, worth taking your time to listen to the audio on KZread from 'We Want Moore' of his version of 'Shapes of Things', that solo, gotta be top ten best live guitar solos, and Gary in peak form, imo. There's an 'octave run' section in the solo, but it starts with a musically brilliant EXPLOSION of sound that's always given me shivers since I first heard it when the album released.

Gary moore had full control, as you see full volume control all the time, he could turn it to the full without blasting.. Fast or slow play it was always full of soul and feeling.. The 10 sec. Boost he makes is all worth it.. you should see the loner live from Sweden in 87 that is also out of this world.. The true master nothing less .. Btw the guitar he uses is the "Greeny" les paul 59, He got it very cheap from Peter Green , he had it for 30 years.. The pickup was wired wrong so it has that out of phase sound wich is cool and it is now owned by Kirk Hammet.

You make great observations. Really know your stuff. I saw Gary Moore lots of times live. He was in a class of his own. When he hit the scene in the early 70s, he blew people away even at 17. He's one of Joe Bonamassas greatest influences. Huge everywhere but the main public in the US. But among musicans, also in the US, he's often no 1. If u like insane blues playing, check out his tribute to Jimi Hendrix at Fenders 50 year anniversary show. He blew every other guitarist off stage with his performance of Hendrix' Red House.

Ok sweet! Really appreciate the recommendation!
This tune was written by Roy Buchanan. His live version is available on YT. Gary is the best ever, for me. That Les Paul, Greeny, is now owned by Kirk Hammett, so wont be getting played anywhere near the same standard as Gary. Joe Bonamasa said that Gary had the fastest middle finger ever. Despite playing a right handed guitar, Gary was actually left handed. Rolling Stone has released 3 lists of the top 100 guitarists, Gary wasn’t in any of them. They’ve just released a list of the top 250 guitarists. He’s not in that list either.
I recommend watching Roy Buchanan's live version from Austin City Limits in 1976.

like i always say, there's 3 "virtuosos", STevie Ray, Gary Moore and Jimi Hendrix ( those play without thinking), then come the others like Slash, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page (maybe i could put Jimmy in top 3 but i cant removve anyone), Buckethead, Brian May and Marc Knopfler, sure i might miss a few but top 3 , its just not how they play , they set up their sound so well , its masters thats it :P

Thrill is gone with BB, And sustain for days in Parisienne Walkways, The notes are so thick he wipes them from the frets.

Well, Joe Bonamassa calls Gary "master" and "beast", so who knows? He may have been the best. I know he's ona pillar of my favorite triad - Moore, Bonamassa, Sambora. I love a few more guitarists, but they all come second to the three.
@paulncott4587

Bonamassa is overrated for me. Granted I haven't listened to his whole catalogue, but what I have heard sounds sterile to my ear. Would be interested if you can point me at something that may sway me? Sambora is elite but not top 3 for me. Moore is definitely in top 3.
