Vocal Coach Reacts to DIO - “HOLY DIVER” (Vocal Analysis)

Ойын-сауық

In this video, I react for the first time to Ronnie James Dio performing “Holy Diver”. I analyze his amazing performance, explain and demonstrate his vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great. Dio is an absolute legend of metal music, a true pioneer with a legacy. I am so excited to hear his other bands like Black Sabbath, Heaven and Hell or Elf. I am aware they are absolute references in the genre. I am so happy I got to share my analysis and reaction to this with you

A delightful reaction, as ever - and it's amusing to see young reactors discovering music that was just part of the landscape for my generation. My first awareness of Dio was unfavourable - as a firm Ozzy fan I saw Dio as the usurper of Ozzy's place in Black Sabbath (silly, of course, Ozzy had made himself unfit to be in a band, it wasn't Dio's fault!) and it was a few years before I gave him the attention he so clearly deserves. For a younger age-group, Dio was THE front man of BS, while Ozzy had become a bit obscure for a while. Just recently I found a very respectful and convincing cover of Holy Diver, by Burning Witches - well worth a watch/listen. Bless you, Fairy Sister, keep on doing what you do, we love it.

Oh, this was a fun review, you're an absolute BLAST to watch reacting to Dio. You've got to do more Dio, as others have said, in groups like Rainbow and Black Sabbath. I'd suggest doing his live performances. Dio had an incredible metal voice, many would say the greatest metal voice of all time (I'd agree with it) Rainbow-Stargazer, Rainbow-Gates of Babylon, and some of his time in Black Sabbath.

That's interesting... this version solo has 1 min cut out of it compared to the version I've always listened to (and on Spotify, with 5:40 mins). I highly suggest checking out the full solo!

Their Holy Diver cover was good, faster and heavier. But nobody can replace RJD...🤘👍🤓

Unrelated to the song, but I've watched a few of your videos this morning and have to say you have absolutely fascinating and gorgeous eyes, I like how they light up and sparkle with emotion. I don't know if it's intentional or not but it makes your reactions in your videos pop and lets the audience more easily feel what you're feeling but in a non-artificial way and adds to your commentary, especially in stuff like your Johnny Cash - Hurt video. Anyway love the videos and have a great day :D

My mom knew that drop was coming after those two minutes of sea and whale noises, so when she introduced the song to me, the volume was at max. I felt it in my soul! XD Rainbow In The Dark will always be my top favorite DIO song.

You should listen to *Rob Halford* in *Judas Priest* They have a very similar Rock/Metal sound. Especially on their *Killing Machine* album. Rob's range was C#2 to C6, giving him a semitone short of 4 octaves. Although age diminished his ability over the years. He's 72 years old now.

Lolli, as I know how you appreciate how singers approach their craft as they get older, I beseech you to give a react video to the last live video performance Ronnie gave before he left us, "Neon Knights" at Wacken. I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised. 💜

Your reaction / analysis videos are always such a joy. Thank you. I'd love to see you react to and analyse Scardust. Try "Concrete Cages", a collaboration they did with Patty Gurdy. When is music ever *not* made better by the inclusion of a hurdy-gurdy?

Love your videos and analysis. Would you consider checking out something from Messiah Marcolin? I'd recommend Samarithan from Candlemass or his live perfomance of Kali Yuga with Therion. I've not seen many reactions to him and I would love to hear your opinion of his vocals.

Listen to the studio version of Stargazer by Rainbow, his vocals are truly stunning. Live, watch him again with Rainbow in 1977 singing Mistreated.

Dio was my vocalist hero as a kid and I was immediately "sold" after hearing this song on the radio. This is now my third video I'm watching from miss Lolli and the knowledge, talent and love for music is so overwhelming that just had to subscribe! The first video that I watched was Focus/Hocus pocus and that's such a treasure chest that maybe that reaction and analysis can't be beaten, but let's find out... :D It's such a pity that Swedish record producer/song writer/DJ Denniz Pop had to die so young as he and Lolli would have made a perfect pair! ;) :D (At least in the head of a fool with a stupid sense of humor! :D )
