Vocal Coach Reacts To COREY TAYLOR - 'Snuff' Acoustic | Voice Analysis

Ойын-сауық

Hello Singderellos,
In this video, I react for the first time to Corey Taylor performing ‘Snuff’. In this video, I analyse his amazing performance, explain and demonstrate his vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great.
Corey is a powerhouse of a vocalist! His display of raw emotion is breathtaking. This performance also reminded me of Disturbed's "Sound of Silence"!

I'm so excited to be a part of your singing journey, It's one that truly never ends.

re: Corey’s neck… it is definitely kind of legendary lol. so much so that he found out a few years back that he had broken his damn neck *17 years* prior and didn’t notice 😳 went for a checkup because of progressive weakness and nerve issues and his dr was shocked he could still function at all. they did emergency surgery to replace 2 vertebra and shave some other bone that was damaging his spinal cord. he didn’t tell Corey the whole “you should have been paralyzed” bit until after the surgery as to not scare the piss out of him.

Yep. As much as this sounds like some kind of "legendary metal singer urban legend"-type stuff, when it comes to Corey I can believe it. The amount of shit the guy has been through in his life is something else. From what little I know about it from interviews and the books he's written I'm not sure I'd want to trade places with him. Massive fame and money not-withstanding. Of course, he'd break his damn neck and not notice ^^ Considering the stage shows Slipknot does (and more importantly did in earlier years) it's not exactly far-fetched. I'm not 100% sure about this, but I remember either reading or hearing somewhere that he supposedly actually broke it by headbanging too hard. Which sounds nuts, but again - it is Corey "The Neck" Taylor we're talking about so who knows.

You should read up on the background to this song. It was originally written about his ex-wife but when Paul Gray (Slipknot bassist who had persuaded Corey to include it on the All Hope Is Gone Album) died, it's meaning evolved into homage to him - hence Corey's introduction about it being a heavy song form

That's not the story I've heard for this song. I've always heard the song is about a close female friend that helped him through recovery and some very dark times that he fell in love with but she didn't feel the same way. The Paul part is definitely right though.

  • @mrolsen6987

    @mrolsen6987

I've heard both stories for years, so you both win. Joke aside, the song is clearly written about a girl, for me it doesn't matter about who. The fact that the meaning changed and why is more important, you get the picture of why he's having a rough time perform it.

I always get chills and get in my feelings, awesome song and reaction , Maggot4Life 🤘🙂

As a singer myself, I can with great confidence state that you are THE best vocal reaction channel on youtube. There are many others who are really good, but they don't have this depth of knowledge in technique. When they listen to something that is spectacularly difficult to do, as a singer, it pisses me of when they don't seem to understand how difficult that thing really was. Recent examples include Chhap Tilak, and Bol hu. Every non-eastern reaction channel understates the singing ability. They simply don't have the knowledge of vocals. BUT YOU, when you mentioned gamakas and then proceeded to demonstrate, I was blown away then. and I still get blown away at every reaction of yours. You are the best.

Loved the analysis. First time viewer, you earned a subscriber. This song hits me personally because I lived it as well. My wife abandoned me when I was at my lowest point, an absolute dredge of society. I was toxic, a liar, a cheater, and a substance abuser. I was so miserable to her, she was absolutely right to leave. The pain I feel from this was knowing she fought until she just couldn’t, and I was too in my own spiral to see I was throwing our lives away. Sorry if that’s TMI. I thought I’d share a personal account as to why this resonates with so many people.

Geoff Tate is well recognized as one of the best hard rock vocalists from the 80s-90s. His range from lows to operatic highs is phenomenal. Another would be Bruce Dickenson of Iron Maiden, particularly "Hallowed Be Thy Name". And for a bit of a duet/accompaniment try Kamelot's "The Haunting" from their "One Cold Winters Night" live with guest vocalist Simone Simons of Epica. Learning so much that I’ve never ever thought about when listening to music before. Your passion and love for music and the artwork behind the voices really comes through the screen and that’s, imo, what makes you the best reaction channel out there. Thank you so much for doing this! My favourite band is Kaleo and I would love to see a reaction about them. I usually don't watch the whole video on reaction channels for various reasons. On yours, I do. The knowledge you convey and your editing style makes these so entertaining. Also, I know words darker than their wings (live at royal albert hall) has been done to death but that or another Alter Bridge song would be sick. Bros Landreth is another extremely underrated band IMO, never seen a reaction.

Though there are some other vocal coach/reactors who can explain the techniques with as much detail, they take four times as long to do it! Fairy Voice Mother gives it all to us in a succinct and entertaining manner. Amazing! i wish my time in academia had been remotely this fun.

This song always hits right in the feels. I would have a hard time trying to sing this song because of how hard it is for Cory to sing it. Best song ever. There is a official music video for this song you should check out when you get the time. 😭

Your explanations are always fascinating. This video made me wonder: Why is it that when you get a bunch of people (like an audience) all singing together, it sounds much better than listening to most of the individuals in the crowd? Also, can you please react to Lawrence - Don't Lose Sight (Acoustic)?

Love your reviews. I recently found this awesome American/Polish singer who won this year's Eurovision contest. His name is Krystian Ochman and the song is River. I would love to hear a review from a professional, as most reacts are from non singers or non voice coaches. Thanks!

Congratulations on reaching this subscriber milestone. You are one of the most informative and still super entertaining vocal analysis channels out on KZread land. A song suggestion: You should check out Devin Townsend's acoustic performance of Bring Him Home (Les Miserables) (can be found on KZread), very emotive and displays his power to project his feelings very well.
