Here is some information to help you navigate their music. It is my standard speech...... :-) I subbed............. Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now still is. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just saw her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. Lol

Her name is Floor Jansen "The flying Dutchwoman" she is tall at 6'1 tallest in the band. She sings operatic, rock, classic, in Spanish, growls, everything, she is the most versatile singer in the world today, and one of the most humble and gracious. She joined Nightwish in 2012 in the middle of their USA tour when they fired their singer Anette Olson in Salt Lake City, and called Floor, who was at her sister's wedding, and they asked her "Learn out setlist in 48 hours" and she mmet them 48 hours later in Seattle for her first show. This show is 10 months later and she still had not been asked to become a permanent member yet, that change after this performance she was asked and her answer was a resounding "YES

She was wearing boots but I would say 6' 1" is probably where she's at. She is the total package. Great talent, VERY attractive and she seems like a really nice person. The whole band is awfully nice too not to mention extremely talented. You can't help but root for them. Long live Nightwish.

Yes, she is indeed very tall. She’s the tallest person on that stage by a fair margin. XD. Floor Jansen is arguable the best singer in the business right now, a true power house and incredibly versatile. This is a great song, but it only covers about 15% of what she’s capable of. Anything live from her is worth a listen, but the typical follow ups to this song are either Romanticide, Song of Myself, Ever Dream, or Storytime. Stick with the Live from Wacken 2013 for now, but the recordings from Wembley 2015 and Tampere 2016 are also phenomenal.

The music is called symphonic metal and i very populair in Europe and South America. The band is from Finland and founded 1996. So far the band has had 3 vocalists 1 Tarja Turunen (Finish) pure opera voice also very good live. (until 2005) 2 Anette Olzon (Schwedish) more pop style. fine in the studio but not good live. (until 2012) 3 Floor Jansen* (Dutch) (current). * She is the vocalist you saw in this clip. She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of. Band members Tuomas Holopainen (The keyboard player and creative mind behind the band. He writes about 95% of the music and lyrics) Marco Hietela (the viking with the long beard (Bass and vocals) Jukka "Julius" Nevalainen (The drummer) Erno "Emppu" Vuorinen (the hobbit like guitar player) Troy Donockley ( a person who did not play on this song but is a multi instrumentalist from the UK) The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the worldtour a lot of what happened was recorded. The documentary is called "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours" (kzread.info/dash/bejne/qJx52s2mh66zdbg.html ) As a next song to take a look at i would recommend their masterpiece "The poet and the pendulum" live at Wembley. Before you take a look at it i would recommend to take a look at the backstory of this song. This will make you appreciate it much more. here is the link kzread.info/dash/bejne/mZaim6mcqryom9o.html BTW that last note she just sang? Nightwish fans created a whole new word for when she does something impressive like that. We call it a Floorgasm. Welcome to the club and boy are you going to receive a lot of traffic on your channel. ;-)

As someone who has been in an orchestral band when I was in HS, when you hear musical notes, you can anticipate where the next ones are going based on context. You can see it in his face at 13:02 he's thinking, "Oh wow, I know what note is coming nex- SHE HIT IT! Wow!!!!". I had the same reaction when I saw this song - SO great to see it in other people's faces too. :D

Well the 6' 1" (1.8542 meters) Dutch dynamo, Floor Jansen (J is sounded as a Y) a/k/a to her fans as the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal slays another unsuspecting soul. Floor is just the definition of power, range and stage presence. She sings what ever she wants and changes her style on the fly without warning as you can see and hear. If drives like she sings she is a menace on the road (LOL)!! Love nightwish! If you really want to hear the best vocal range for Floor try to give Poet and the Pendulum at Wembly a listen. You need to know a bit before you go into that one though. Poet and the pendulum was written by (as were all of the songs actually) by Toumas, the keyboardist when they parted with their first lead singer Tarja (Floor is the third and current singer). There was a lot of backlash towards him on the decision to the point where he contemplated suicide, so he decided to write a song where he killed himself instead. The song talks about his inner struggles on the whole ordeal, and the last bit of the song is what his mother told him, that i feel made him continue on to this day. Great reaction and I hope to see more nightwish reactions from you! The nightwish army is coming, be prepared lol

This one is keyboardist/songwriter Tuomas's most personal song, dealing with original lead singer Tarja Turunen departure from the band in 2005 and his (very) dark feelings and impact it had on him. NOTE: Floor's arresting delivery is the key component why this performance resonates with so many seasoned Nightwish listeners. 3) Nightwish - 7 Days to the Wolves (Live at Wembley 2016 in 4k): kzread.info/dash/bejne/foOH1didpszep84.html (Description: Showcase of a heavy groovy mid-tempo side of Nightwish with dynamic transitions and smooth harmony vocals by Marco & Floor.) 4) Nightwish - She is my Sin: (Live at Tampere 2015 in 4k): kzread.info/dash/bejne/nYKTt8dtoa6yorw.html (Description: Solid vintage era Nightwish track with yet another Floor's vocal showcase) 5) Nightwish - Weak Fantasy (Live at Tampere 2015 in 4k): kzread.info/dash/bejne/aYiGmMtuacvQY7w.html (Description: Powerhouse track with tribalistic drum beat, strong duo vocals by Floor & Marco + on point lyrics about humankind's darker side. Here Floor's expressive "storytelling" qualities are on full display) 6) Nightwish - Shudder Before the Beautiful (Live in Tampere 2015 in 4k): kzread.info/dash/bejne/eK1opJhqpceofps.html (Description: Grand scale opener from their latest 2015 album with increasingly epic harmony vocals by Floor & Marco. The pipes are on!) BONUS) Nightwish - The Islander (Live At Tampere 2015, HD with lyrics) kzread.info/dash/bejne/jKNs0MWEj5jRqsY.html (If you liked bassist Marco's voice, here's 100% acoustical song fantasticly performed by him) Have fun with (atleast some of) these + greetings from Finland, home of Nightwish. =)

Just so you know, this band's been through tons of drama. They had 2 singers before Floor. The first was Tuomas's school friend, Tarja. He wrote The Poet and the Pendulum after having to fire her. They have a wonderful cover of Phantom of the opera with her, and if you dl the studio of this, she'll be on that too. The second was Anette, who's a good vocalist, but at that time, at least, really struggled live because of all the drama. There's a live version of Slow, Love, Slow where she did alright. If you listen to that or the official vid to Bye,Bye, Beautiful after Tarja's stuff, you'll see why fans were livid. I feel hearing the other singers helps you see Tuomas's mindset and really drives home the emotion. Don't forget to do some songs with Troy and Marco :) Glad you enjoyed

Floor has had opera training but she doesn't consider herself an opera singer per se. She doesn't sing in opera houses yelling over the orchestra pits. She uses mics. Another fact; the band played for about 90 minutes and Floor sang every song. Ghost Love Score is a 10 minute song and she sang all of it except the 2 minute interlude and she STILL had two more songs to sing! Nightwish has lost two more members in the last seven years. Bassist/vocalist Marko Hietala left the band last January, citing personal reasons and was replaced. Drummer Jukka Nevaleinen left Nightwish in 2015, citing ongoing insomnia and was replaced by his mentor, drummer Kai Hahto.

Nightwish has a wide span of tunes from the more slow ballads like sleeping sun and while your lips are still red... to the more uptempo as romanticide, wishmaster, storytime... But in 2007 the band started to work with Troy Donockely, a multi instrumentalist from England. And he laid down pipes on a few song on "dark passion play". He was soon looked upon as a member, so 6 years later he was added as the 6th member. His entrance gave them a more folk inspired irish/Scottish sound, which you can hear on songs like "My Walden" and "the islander".

She can also play the piano, guitar and violin. The reaction to her last note is universal; it has this primal power behind it, like an unstoppable force of nature. Let’s not leave out Tuomas, the composer behind this music (and the keyboards).

Nightwish has always had pretty good lighting, even back in the 90s when they were a tiny little metal group. Love that this was your first song of theirs; it's one of their oldest that they still play, but it hasn't really been amended much since the keyboardist wrote it. The guitar player on the right side is about 5 foot 3 so yeah she is quite a bit taller than at least him :P She reminds me of something like a Valkyrie - an Amazonian Death Reaping Battle Angel of sorts :D . I'd say from eyeballing it shes about 5 11 to maybe 6 foot? Maybe a bit more. A statuesque woman indeed. Her voice being powerful as all hell certainly does have a projector like effect on how she is perceived visually tho indeed. As you acutely observed and commented: she literally is singing with such a power and force from within that its causing her to have to literally brace herself from the sheer vibration that the sound has on physical reality. Superhuman almost. I am most impressed by her command of vibrato and her breath control is very well measured. One thing to keep in mind is that this concert I believe was her DEBUT with the band after her hiring a mere 2 days previous? I could be mistaken but they produced a documentary called "Please Learn the Setlist in 48 Hours" about their search for their 3rd vocalist after Annettes departure in 2012 and their auditioning of and eventual hiring of Floor Jansen. So tbh as amazing as her Wacken Open Air 2013 performance with Nightwish was there are actually a few MISTAKES in some parts that the hardcore fans COULD point out - although few would willingly say anything less than perfect D:< so with time she is even more refined and actually BETTER in later performances than in this one, even though she does this song and most of the others virtually flawlessly.

Been a fan for over 15 years, excellent band, always been great because of the composition abilities of Tuomas (keyboard player). He's been able to skilfully write songs for all three of their singers, to fit their different voices. And Floor can sing most things, she does the older material very well. This was originally written for the first singer, Tarja, who was very much a classical singer back then. Floor's made it her own and I enjoy both versions.

Amidst what everyone has said thus far, one huge thing that I love about Nightwish, is their broad variety of fans. This video alone shows the diversity and huge range of age from the fans. The demographic for the fans is great! Also, I always loved that one shot of the lady at 12:09 in your vid. She's someone who's completely lost in the moment with the music.

One of the joys of Nightwish is the variation of styles they perform from the heavier songs to folky, operatic and rock but one of the constants is the Tuomas' excellent compositions. The more you check them out the more your will find to enjoy for sure.

I just started listening to Nightwish about 3 weeks ago and I have been into heavy metal about 20 odd years, I like anything from Andrea Bocelli to Metallica, they are awesome, Floor is a metal Goddess, how have I missed out in this band, ironically I have the dvd of imaginaerum which they do the music score for. By the way I am from near Glasgow.

I think it's a bit too early for it. He needs to listen to a few songs first to get more connected to the band and Tuomas. Then he can get more out of the masterpiece with knowing more about the background.

Floor Jansen is her name She has siblings who sing too 1 being Mark who is Epica's growler, Floor can growl too. The Viking looking guitarist Marko sings too. 7 Days to the Wolves if you want to hear Floor and Marko.

Floor has a sister, Irene, but Mark is no relation, in spite if sharing her last name. I suspect Jansen is about as common in the Netherlands as Johnson is here in the USA. There are KZread videos where they both sisters appear, my favorite being "Valley of the Queens". You have to look for Irene, though, since she is at the rear of the stage and behind the guitarist. kzread.info/dash/bejne/m21hu6qEadGnoZc.html The guitarist, by the way is Arjen Lucassen a composer and songwriter who is considerably taller than Floor.

Floor's got quite the back catalogue (and is doing De Beste Zangers on Dutch TV currently, which is an eclectic mix) She does a rather lovely rendition of O Mio Babbino Caro which is on YT.
