Her name is Floor Jansen, and she is Dutch, a 6'1" goddess of metal. The band is Finnish, and have been together since 1996, Floor is the 3rd lead singer, having replace Anette Olzon in Oct 2012, so she had only been with the band for 10 months when this was recorded. She replaced Olzon with 48 hours notice, and learned a 15 song set list. And Nailed it. She is one of the most respected singers in the world, and probably the best and most verstatile, and a truely beautiful human being inside and out.

Oh yes... while I was already here. Took me few secs to see watch happening since I've been in the fandom for so long that the hour put to watching reactions and being in Nightwishes reacticide, caught me off guard in this channel to see this. :)

She is not an opera singer who sings metal songs. She is a metal singer who also sings opera. Classical, pop, whatever. She is just that versatile

I don't know if Floor would have said "Hold my beer," because when Tuomas called her, she was scared. And to top it off, her burnout was not yet a month past. Her two biggest fears were: A) "That I would completely fuck up" (Floor Jansen, 'Please Learn the Setlist in 48 Hours'), and B) That she would not fit in with the band, because she's Dutch and a woman. But needless to say, the band -- all of them -- alleviated her fears, and gave her the opportunity to make these epic concerts we love so much.

This is the performance to start with when it comes to Nightwish. I'm a huge fan. The organ thing is for looks! The vocalist is Floor Jansen, she is Dutch, the 3rd and current female lead vocalist of Nightwish, from 2012 on. Tuomas called her and asked if she would join the band mid US tour and cover for the sick vocalist. She had 48 hours to fly to Seattle and learn the set list!!! There rest of the band members here are Finns. They have a 6th member Troy, the multi-instrumentalist, from the UK. Tuomas Holopainen, keys, is the band founder in 1996, leader, mastermind, who composes, writes lyrics to and arranges vast majority of Nightwish songs. Also known as Metal Mozart. Bass, vocals, Marko Hietala, guitar Emppu Vuorinen, drums Jukka Nevalainen, today his friend Kai Hahto due to Jukka's insomnia. I happened to see Tuomas a month ago near Stockmann's. Had to say a few words and thank him for his music. I told him I will tell other fans I met him. He said OK. Afterwords I came to think about a dozen questions I should have asked him. I watch as many Nightwish reaction videos as I can. And they are many! Hi again, always a pleasure to watch you and your videos!

@@WildwoodVagabond The Finnish members are from a small town in eastern Finland near the Russian border called Kitee. It makes it that more special to have so many talented musicians from such a small place, its is just a village really. The bassist and main male vocalist was replaced quite early and recently, the drummer had to step aside for having quite severe insomnia. As a result, eastern Finnish metal scene is quite active, high quality in all areas of production, as one can imagine if one of your "own" makes it big.

Floor is a soprano, not a mezzo soprano, but a real soprano and she can. She is able to sing anything between growling and soprano inside the very same song, and loud if needed.For me there is, or have ever been so versatile woman. She may not be the very best opera singer, but she sure has one of the most versatile and powerful voices ever recorded.

You've finally met the Queen! Arguably the most powerful female voice in the world. From opera to hard metal and everything in between, you're just scratching the surface of what she's capable of. And subbed for more Nightwish! Live is best - from Wacken 2013 which has ultra hi-quality recording: 1) Storytime, 2) EverDream, 3) Romanticide (harder metal but an example of her jaw-dropping 4-5 octave range at the end), 4) Song of Myself - and all the rest from the same concert is incredible. And there are great operatic vids of her like Phantom of the Opera and so so much more. Anything by Floor Jansen and Nightwish is amazing. :) Glad you've finally discovered Floor. As a 63 year old heavy metal/hard rock enthusiast from when I was an 8 year old boy back in 1965...I have listen to practically every group in this genre...and yet, I had never heard of Nightwish until a few months ago. I can tell you this, Nightwish is in its own classification...they have more talent in their band than almost any band I have ever heard! Once you listen to a Nightwish song...you can listen to it over and over again. Yes, Floor Jansen is classically trained...and it shows!! On the contrary, Floor fan. If there's a poppy singer in Nightwish, it's the CURRENT singer who sings everything with the same soft poppy voice. Anette was a rock singer. Yeah she has a bright voice, but voice colour doesn't make one poppy, you can definately be a rock or metal singer with bright colour voice. It's the attitude and identity, how you sing and what you sing, that identifies you with a genre.

Aurinkohirvi you are right. And as a #Finland focused channel, we might be interested in the ’old stuff’ with Tarja here as Tarja is somewhat of a legend in Finland. So, if I might suggest, we could add a few songs to Gabriel’s list, e.g. Phantom of the Opera, Wishmaster, Everdream (Tarja version), Nemo original video and Sleeping sun etc.

Im suprised you were able to live in FInland for four years and NEVER hear about what is probably our single biggest music export! It's about time you discover them! If you ever do annother reaction like this you should check out something with their original finnish singer Tarja Turunen! The "pipes" keyboard screen was inspired by Finnish national composer Jean Sibelius's monument in Helsinki. Nightwish used to play Sibelius's "Finlandia Hymn" as an opening instrumental number on tour. Johanna Kurkela, the wife of Nightwish's keyboardist/ songwriter, is also a successful singer. Her song, "Kuolevainen" is a big favorite of mine.

Wait, you lived in Finland and have not heard of Nightwish? Thats ... curious. They are literally so big that the Prime Minister had comment on them breaking up with their first singer. And that was over a decade ago, they got bigger since then.

82,000 people at that concert in Germany. Floor controls them with her hands and arms. And they love her for it!.

I was there in 2013.... what a great performance.

Symphonic Metal allows them to take their music in several different directions.. They have the long, epic, multipart full production style songs like this one.. They also have several of the more classic thrash heavy metal style songs, and just about everything in between.. They even have the songs with a bit of a Celtic folk rock vibe going on.. But, no matter when the style they all have those beautiful symphonic elements that make the music so rich and full sounding.. Take your choice, the Nightwish Army loves it all.

"Who's this guy?" That guy is Emppu, the guitarist. When he doesn't have anything to play, he likes to wander around the stage to check up on his bandmates and hatch little practical jokes on them. Here you could see him gently touching Marko's and Tuomas's arms - Emppu is unusually touchy-feely for a Finnish male.

Yeeeeeyyyy! You did it!!!! So happy you did a Nightwish reaction video and that you enjoyed the music! I discovered Nightwish` music back in 1999 when I was 19 years old. They had a different singer then, Tarja. Since then they have become Finlands most popular and well known band, world wide. This is the first time I have visited your channel. I have read that 80,000 folks were at this show. So they were feeling it by the time Nightwish stepped on the stage. Floor gets better and better as the song progresses. Funny that you said she sounds like an opera singer. Her training is in the Lieder Style. Very preceptive on your part. She takes it farther and farther. The entire band is working their bottoms off.

I'm with that! I'm not part of the Nightwish "army", but I like people experiencing things that I like, and their opinion of it is just fine, even if they don't care for it. Sometimes hearing why someone doesn't like something is very helpful, and listening to why that is helps me grow. I have friends who disagree with me on a bunch o' stuff, and it's beneficial.

Finally you found my absolute favorite band! Yes, be prepared to a huge crowd here on your channel. The pipe system with the keyboards is just for the looks.

Nightwish is Finnish pop culture. You will hardly find anyone not knowing them. When the band booted their first vocalist, it escalated to a state affair. The government got involved.

Song is super emotional and is dealing about faterhood and also Markos relationship to his father. There is also english version from the song, but I prefer finnish cause lyrics are more deeper. So wonderful reaction. I have followed you long time, but this was something that i had to comment. You are ❤️

The music is called symphonic metal and is very populair in Europe and South America. The band is from Finland and founded in 1996. So far the band has had 3 vocalists 1 Tarja Turunen (Finish) pure opera voice also very good live. (until 2005) 2 Anette Olzon (Schwedish) more pop style. fine in the studio but not good live. (until 2012) 3 Floor Jansen* (Dutch) (current). * She is the vocalist you saw in this clip. She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of. Band members Tuomas Holopainen (The keyboard player and creative mind behind the band. He writes about 95% of the music and lyrics) Marco Hietela (the viking with the long beard (Bass and vocals) Jukka "Julius" Nevalainen Later (2015) replaced by Kai Hahto because of health issues (The drummer) Erno "Emppu" Vuorinen (the hobbit like guitar player) Troy Donockley ( a person who did not play on this song but is a multi instrumentalist from the UK) The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the world-tour a lot of what happened was recorded. The documentary is called "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours" (kzread.info/dash/bejne/qJx52s2mh66zdbg.html ) As a next song to take a look at i would recommend their masterpiece "The poet and the pendulum" live at Wembley. Before you take a look at it i would recommend to take a look at the backstory of this song. Wasn't Anette in a hospital when they fired her? As far as I know, she got sick during the tour.

@@cancelled_user No, she wasn't. She even sang one gig after her hospital visit. Marko said in his book that she couldn't get over and forgive them that they didn't cancel the shows but instead used substitude singers on one night. Basically she "behave" herself out of the band.

A fun fact about the band, in 2004 their song Nemo was the most sold single in Finland! You could hear it on the radio all the time back then. :D I guess that says something about our taste in music...

He didn't choose a side, but he whished them all their best at least.

US people who enjoy Nightwish sometimes say that European metal bands are better than the US ones. I do not agree on that; there are also very interesting ones in the US - according to my taste -; you might try to listen to: Kamelot (mentioned by someone else, too), Evanescence, Dream Theater, Redemption (just to mention a few).😉 I like Nightwish a lot ... Floor studied rock academy in the Netherlands, then moved on to conservatory for musical theatre and classical singing while keeping her day job as a metal singer. She is a classically trained soprano, not a mezzo, but has more bottom range than a normal soprano. She is also a vocal coach and has decades of experience singing. This video shows what happens when you're scared and afraid, and still plunge ahead, giving something your all. I say this in the context that when this concert happened, Floor hadn't yet been with the band for a full year -- and at the same time, had not yet been out of her burnout for a full year. Floor is the living embodiment of, "You never know what you can do, until you put your mind to it and simply try." We should all be so lucky.

No matter how many times i watch it, i always get teary eyed.

Floor Jansen is probably one of the greatest singers in the world right now. Most opera singers can't do what she does. She can switch between head voice, chest voice, mixed voice, belt and growl within the same song. Occasionally she switches in the middle of a line. She uses all of her techniques to serve the emotional message of the song. There's a reason she won the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers ("Best Singers") in 2019.

Nightwish is absolutely my favorite band!! They are very humble and there are no stars in this band. Keyboard player and songwriter Tuomas Holopainen is very intelligent and he is a musical genius. I think it reflects Finnish modesty. Music tells all powerful way. I have seen a lot of videos, interviews of them, It was not a fairy tale... All Finns should be proud of this band! Nightwish is not so popular in USA. The promoting international company Nuclear Blast is German. Tuomas Holopainen was an exchange student in USA and good friends there!

82,000 at that Wacken gig! The pipes are a Wacken stage prop - very suitable for Nightwish! 2:52 "This guy" is Emppu Vuorinen, 5'3", THE Electric Hobbit, - he plays lead and rhythm guitar..... This was their 13th song of the set. If you got some "Pirates of the Caribbean" vibes it is because Hans Zimmer is one of Tuomas Holopainen's (composer, keyboard player) infuences..... Nice Floorgasm!!

Welcome to Floor Jansen, the 6' Valkyrie Goddess of Metal. You've heard about 40% of what she can do. I've heard her sing rock, metal, classical aria, country, lullaby, smooth jazz, pop and musical. I've heard her sing in English, Dutch, German, Finnish, Spanish, Italian and Latin. I've heard her do deathgrowls and hold a D6 for 8 seconds. And I've heard her do all those things live on stage. Sure, there are singers who can do any of the things she does better than her, but there's only one who can do all of them and sound great and convincing doing it all.

That "organ thing" is just a stage prop for his keyboards.

In answer to your question about the organ, it's just a set prop, the keyboards he uses are by Korg but I couldn't tell you which model.
