Hello @ John Henny ! Nightwish fans here, your reaction just appeared on our radar.. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing in 2013 at Wacken Open Air festival, in front of a 82k+ audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Yes, Floor Jansen is a vocal coach. As I heard, she called herself "a vocal nerd". She's one of the greatest female singers of our time, imho, doing all that vocal acrobatics you noticed (and appreciated, as a professional) live, in an "open air" metal concert. That's the high level of Nightwish's musicianship. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " Hope you'll continue this journey with us, so I'll drop here a list of songs with the current lineup of the band you may like: "Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) kzread.info/dash/bejne/rK6TmbF8c7TSiNY.html "Storytime" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) kzread.info/dash/bejne/oqqfu9mIer21frg.html "Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y4ydltBxlK3Jdps.html "Song Of Myself" live at Wacken 2013 (dark/metal) kzread.info/dash/bejne/noWpl7Ojmceuh8o.html "Dead Boy's Poem" - live Buenos Aires 2018 (soulful ballad) kzread.info/dash/bejne/hWx5la5wl8qyfbA.html "Ghost River" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) kzread.info/dash/bejne/YmmZy9adXainZqw.html "My Walden" live at Wembley 2015 (celtic / folk) kzread.info/dash/bejne/naKlx6txYJrAnLw.html "Sleeping Sun" live at Tampere 2015 (ballad) kzread.info/dash/bejne/pKej1s6zopzdfto.html "Stargazer" live at Tampere 2015 (operatic vocals / metal) kzread.info/dash/bejne/gJx516OJidDFhco.html "Slaying The Dreamer" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) kzread.info/dash/bejne/qXVoltajkbObnpM.html "I Want My Tears Back" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (celtic / folk vibe) kzread.info/dash/bejne/hnaDxsmxmsWWm7A.html "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" live In Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) kzread.info/dash/bejne/pmZq1MGvcby3YLQ.html "Weak Fantasy" live at Tampere 2015 (dark metal) kzread.info/dash/bejne/c4JmlZuJktTImtI.html "7 Days To The Wolves" live at Wembley 2015 (dark metal) kzread.info/dash/bejne/iqqnyNl6gMW9iMY.html And if you want to hear Floor growling :) then try "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Wembley 2015 kzread.info/dash/bejne/qK2A1bdwgZaZY84.html Last but not the least - they just released their 9th studio album on April 10th named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: kzread.info/head/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg You can also react to Floor Jansen "tapping" other musical genres in Beste Zangers 2019 (TV show from Netherlands), here is a playlist made by Floor herself (start listen it in reverse order..): kzread.info/head/PL8iSYWeQhlimgUnWw1FDdiJN0msPzqpLo To understand better the context of this show you should visit also Jenniezelf's YT channel (En subtitled materials): kzread.info For entire episodes of the show with En translation, you should check Denise Hofs's DM channel: www.dailymotion.com/xpinkeu/videos Thank you! Welcome to Floor Jansen, the 6' Valkyrie Goddess of Metal. You've heard about 40% of what she can do. I've heard her sing rock, metal, classical aria, country, lullaby, smooth jazz, pop and musical. I've heard her sing in English, Dutch, German, Finnish, Spanish, Italian and Latin. I've heard her do deathgrowls and hold a D6 for 8 seconds. And I've heard her do all those things live on stage. Sure, there are singers who can do any of the things she does better than her, but there's only one who can do all of them and sound great and convincing doing it all.

And she does all of those things with such superb stage presence, such ability to convey emotions that i have not seen ever before. Thats the reason many fell in love with her, and enjoyng every bit she pushes out, whether with Nightwish or sometimes also alone, like for example 1y ago the series "Beste Zangers 2019" or her support for charity War Child (she did a song for them originally called De beelden blijven, recently published also in English as The fight goes on), or even the actual 9th album of Nightwish (Human || Nature) which is not yet available as Live (which is usually better choice with NW)... There is tons to choose from, most of them really excellent... My tips for you would be maybe Shallow (cover, in Beste Zangers) of the duett with Henk Poort - Phantom of the Opera (also there), or the How's the hearth in pure acoustic version (on Planet Rock session)...

Hi John thought you might like to know some of Floors musical background.. Floor tweeted this If I hadn't had passionate music teachers in my high school, I might never have started singing. I was the bullied, insecure kid who dreamt of singing without knowing that I had a voice for it. "Because of my dedication at school I dared to crawl out of my shell and started to sing! I became more confident of myself and made friends and was forever in love with music. "Nothing is as wonderful and honest as making music together. Nothing connects as music can. Music education is therefore very important for many reasons. Floor's Wiki Bio Floor Jansen started studying music at the Dutch Rock Academy in 1999, entering the Conservatorium Tilburg three years later. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. After After Forever split up she started teaching performing in her own course called Wanna be a Star?! She used to play the guitar, piano and flute and has completed several years of music studies. From the age of 16 all during this period she was fronting the the Band Apocalypse (later known as After Forever) in 1997 until they disbanded in 2009. She then did vocal coaching and formed her own band called Revamp which officially broke up in 2016 because of Floor's commitment to Nightwish. The RockAcademy in the Netherlands is an actual Bachelors degree, conservatory style, but focusing on the rock/pop industry.

Nightwish is a Finnish band and here are the members currently: - Tuomas Holopainen - Keyboards & main composer/arranger - Finnish - Floor Jansen - Main Vocals - Dutch - Marco Hietala - Bass & Vocals - Finnish - Emppu Vuorinen - Guitarist - Finnish - Kai Hahto - Drums - Finnish (In the video you just watched it was still Jukka Nevalainen, he left as the drummer in 2014 and is now with the band's management team) - Troy Donockley - Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bouzouki, etc. - English The backing tracks are recorded with the London Philarmonic full orchestra and choir. She is a particularly interesting singer for a vocal coach, as she is probably the most versatile singer on the planet right now, from song to song she sings in different styles, techniques, syncopation, etc. In case you would interested to react to her some more, here are some song of interest vocally: - Storytime from Wacken 2013 - Everdream from Wacken 2013 - Romanticide from Wacken 2013 - Yours is an Empty Hope from Wembley 2015 - The Poet and The Pendulum for Wembley 2015 (14 minutes long) - The Greatest Show on Earth from Tampere 2015 (20+ minutes long) - Dead Boy's Poem from Buenos Aires 2018 - The Devil and The Deep Dark Ocean from Buenos Aires 2018 She also participated in a Dutch TV show called Beste Zangers in which she performed numerous covers in all kinds of music styles from an aria to Lady Gaga which is also very interesting vocally speaking.

This was a very interesting video, informative. I enjoy it. Welcome to the magical world of Nightwish! In addition to the band, you will hear a symphony orchestra in the background. Nightwish has been using the London Symphony Orchestra or part of it in the background with their studio albums since 2004. Also two different choirs (adults, children) as needed. In live concerts, they play it from the backing tape and perform themselves on top of it. Everything that happens on stage is for telling a story. Fireworks, pyrotechnics, lights, led panels, background music (symphony orchestra) and music played by each band member, vocals ... And each song has its own story. And because every story is different, that’s why Nightwish sounds different in every song and within the song there are variations depending on the course of the story. So, if they now have about 120 songs, that means 120 stories. Same as 120 books or movies ... All different. That makes this band really interesting. You can never know what will happen next. As it is in a good movie or book. They have two trained singers. Floor Jansen and bassist Marko Hietala. And as you noticed, you can really hear it. If you make another video where Marko also sings, you will notice how good those two are together! We think (Nightwish Army / fans) Floor is the best female metal singer in the world. Valkyrie goddess. If we draw a line and there is opera at one end and growling at the other, she is, to our knowledge, the only singer who can sing all the way through. We understand, of course, that a true opera singer is better in her own art. But others who are able to sing at the top level of each singing style between the extremes probably don’t exist ...

Great reaction and analysis. Floor Jansen (Yan-sen) is one of a kind. She is classically trained and has an exceptional range. Thank you John Henny ❣️ Floor Jansen is awesome singer and the NW is just superb. Please analyze and react more to them, next maybe Yours is an empty hope, use live performances only since they really excell when live! I really hope you continue with them! Btw, nice noticing the rhytm changes 😉

Floor is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and if you continue to experience her performances you will see just how versatile a performer she is. She can sing in any genre and in many languages, here in front of 80,000+ metal-heads at the Mecca of Metal, Wacken Open Air, she gave a complete blow out performance along with the band, one that many of us who have seen many concerts will tell you is top 5 period!!!! Only request as the NW army will deliver many others is do Nightwish especially with Floor LIVE as you truly never merely listen to her or the band you experience them and that is only possible LIVE!! Great reaction and analysis BTW.

Wonderful to see someone who picks up on the talent of not only Floor, but the entire band. Tuomas is an amazing song writer. Can't think of a song from Nightwish that I don't like.

Great reaction, welcome to Nightwish. Loved seeing you having your first Floorgasm (named after the Dutch lead singer Floor Jansen). You have not even seen half of what she is capable of. From real metal growling to real Opera (and everything in between, pop, heavy rock, metal, jazz, musical etc she can do it all at top level. Besides more Nightwish i would recommend you to listen to her last year performance of Phantom of the Opera with one of the official phantom male singers Henk Poort. Look for Beste Zangers 2019 Phantom of the Opera Floor Jansen en Henk Poort, it will blow you away.

Nightwish is a a true godsend of music . All the songs as you delve deeper on this journey will just bring you to amazing places. And reacting to nightwish is quite the experience! I have seen them live and plan to see them again. When I was younger with Tarja this was my favorite song due to the symphonic parts of it and the choir. But floor has delivered so much emotion to this nightwish family it is hard to believe. Welcome to the family and the journey! Ps. React to live versions of songs ! Cheers!

Great reaction John! I think I speak for everyone here when I say I hope to see you cover lots more Nightwish. They really are a rather unique band, their music is very difficult to pigeonhole and I am sure you will enjoy all of it. You will find some rather long pieces in their discography and I just want to assure you that the people who watch these NW reaction/analysis videos have the attention span to handle longer videos... please don't feel the need to rush.

I have followed this group since the mid 2000's. Floor is a vocal coach. All of the musicians of Nightwish have extreme educations in music. The pianist Tuomas Holopainen is the band composer (note I said composer, not songwriter) for about 90-95% of their work. This band has 3 highly skilled singers! Floor, Marco (the bass player- also known as "the voice of Finland"), and Troy (multi-instrumental including- flutes of all sorts, Uilleann pipes, and strings). They all have solo and other group work. But come together for their long-standing and ongoing Nightwish work. They not only do rock, but they can also do just about everything. As a long time musician myself, I consider this group as musicians- musicians. They are a joy. So welcome to the "Nightwish Army"! You will not be disappointed. You will be pleasantly surprised at their diversity and daring.

You've finally met the Queen! Arguably the most powerful female voice in the world. From opera to hard metal and everything in between, you're just scratching the surface of what she's capable of. And subbed for more Nightwish! Live is best - from Wacken 2013 which has ultra hi-quality recording: 1) Storytime, 2) EverDream, 3) Romanticide (harder metal but an example of her jaw-dropping 4-5 octave range at the end), 4) Song of Myself - and all the rest from the same concert is incredible. And there are great operatic vids of her such as Phantom of the Opera and so much more. Anything by Floor Jansen and Nightwish is amazing. :) Glad you've finally discovered Floor.
