Once you have checked into the Angelina story there is no turning back. She is more than a prodigy she is, IMO, the most gifted female vocalist on the planet today irrespective of age. There are more than 100 tracks for you to react to. All of us have our personal favorites but you will never be disappointed with any of them. Great reaction, welcome to Angelina"s world. Keep those reactions coming you have a long but magical road ahead of you.

The more you explore Angelina music the more you'll discover that she is an artist of many voices. She explores various genres including country, classic rock and roll, pop, avant garde symphonic, and (of course) classic jazz. No matter how much you may want to, Angelina cannot be pigeon-holed or categorized. She just turned 14 and there's still unchartered territory for her to maneuver her gift that she was born with.

Lee C i agree. The studio version is clearly amazing but it was not done in one take. This live version is about as close as you will get to that 9 year old version. Ken there are many recordings of this song in KZread. As she gets older she takes out the growl and stylizes the song more jazzy.

You cannot get a grasp on the vastness of her abilities by this one song alone, or even a couple. She has such a wide range of vocals and genres that it literally requires about 80 songs to begin to get an idea of who and what this prodigy really is. There is a short clip of her singing at 18 months old, in which she takes a microphone, and expertly holds it up to her mouth, and sings, in tune, and in time, and in English (her first language is Norwegian) with Whitney Houston's 'I Will Always Love You', just a single line, and then spreads her arms out, and almost gives us a 'mic drop' moment as if to say 'you ain't seen nothing yet'. And that's where it all began. Jazz roots, but there is no genre that is beyond her. I've heard vocal coaches, such as yourself, say they learn from her every time they listen to her. So, if you're really hooked, and I have no doubt of that, then hang on, because you're in for a ride.

She had previous turned down dozens of the biggest people in the industry. This is a huge landmark and we all knew it was coming eventually. This label also has Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, Ariana grande, Jonas Brothers and more. We hear that she is signing on her own terms hopefully meaning a good deal of freedom.

I see the picture of Frank Sinatra on your wall, did you know he studied Billy Holiday, and that's how he perfected his Phrasing and he also studied and idolized all those great blues and jazz singers and bands (Count Basie) who played in the villiage in NY in the 30s and was friends with many of them. When I saw that, I now see the correlation with Angelina and her love of the same artist. And also, when Frank got a new piece of music, he studied it for hours like it was poetry, every word and how it fit into the whole piece. I believe Angela does this, and you can tell by her covers.

Ken - Thank you for your outstanding reaction to this Angelina Jordan performance. It is obvious that you are a true professional who understands the technical and artistic aspects of vocal music. After 40+ years as a music educator and jazz musician, I would say to all young singers out there: Don’t try to sing like Angelina until you know how to do it, especially when she belts out in the high register. Take voice lessons and learn everything you can about vocal technique and artistic styling. If you try to do what she does before you know what you are doing, you could severely damage your voice and may never be able to sing again. Angelina has a gift that very few people in history have ever had. All of her physical vocal abilities and sense of musical style came with her at birth and because her family played music all the time as she was growing up. She is a force of nature. You young singers can aspire to sing like her, but don’t push it. We would like to see and hear you on KZread someday!

Excellent advice, and greatly needed for kids listening to so many talent shows, hearing Courtney Hadwin, etc, who goes all in on the vocal fireworks. Angelina has had voice lessons from an early age, perhaps 5. Attended a formal after school program at something like a performing arts school. Even with her natural talent she couldn't have a voice like this without putting in the work.

Ken, in my very educated knowledge of Angelina, she is the finest female vocal to live since she was 10. She was a consummate professional at 10. She has her own band, a couple of excellent guitarists. She has arranged her covers and her own music since she was 8. Enjoy everything you are about to hear and learn about this gift. She and Space X are the two things this year that are the best! Engish is her second language of 3. She plays 4 different instuments.

Thanks for the your second wonderful reaction to this incredible performance, Ken. Angelina in this song is amazing, I'm sorry for the destabilizing effect ... but this is Angelina 🤗 😜 The reaction to this song by Angelina, is a kind of investiture, is the watershed between simple listeners and fans of that girl. This was thought by Angelina as a tribute to Screamin'Jay Hawkins, the original writer and singer of 1956. Certainly not many adults know him, certainly the only little girl of 9 years in the world who knows him and who also thinks of singing him without any fear is Angelina.❤️ ❤️ And it's incredible that this adaptation is all her own (the sheets written) and that at that age she was able to evaluate and transform, according to her sensitivity, such a particular and powerful song 😊 But the video in the black and white version and recorded at 9 old years is absolutely exceptional, even more extreme, you must feel it absolutely 😂 This is a small part of the about 130 of her interpretations, including covers, songs written for her and her originals written between 11 and 12 years old, if they seem enough! “I Put A Spell On You” - Age 9 kzread.info/dash/bejne/oKt6ztF8gLvgc9Y.html “At Last” - Age 8 kzread.info/dash/bejne/amVtxLNyeZC6Xco.html “Every Time We Say Goodbye” - Age 10 kzread.info/dash/bejne/fYaHq5qBnbeueqQ.html “Feeling Good”- Age 10 kzread.info/dash/bejne/omyfo65mo6qwqJs.html “What Is Life” - Age 12 (original song) kzread.info/dash/bejne/dKpk1Jlwe7GdgqQ.html "It's A Man's World" - Age 12 kzread.info/dash/bejne/enmhmdaAos2ve84.html “I Will Always Love You” - Age 11 kzread.info/dash/bejne/l6GgltaCcdS9hbw.html “Shield” - Age 12 (original song) kzread.info/dash/bejne/noWot8SPe8WWptY.html “Valerie” - Age 12 kzread.info/dash/bejne/paWhrK6kl86Yec4.html “Wicked Game” - Age 12 kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z311r6htdqfMp5c.html "Born To Die" - Age 12 kzread.info/dash/bejne/doKJj6qcfNi1j6w.html&start_radio=1 “Stay” - Age 12 kzread.info/dash/bejne/kXuHuLKvc9yZico.html “Song for A” - Age 13 (song written for her) kzread.info/dash/bejne/dKNnz8qxgLCTpaQ.html “When We Were Young” - Age 13 kzread.info/dash/bejne/k3x7tdWqgbLZZaw.html

Originally, Angelina got her inspiration for this song from Screamin Jay Hawkins 1956 version. The black & white version other commenters reference in here, shows her singing this, at 9 years of age, with much more growl and attitude, giving homage to Hawkins, the original composer/performer.

I don't know if you saw her rendition of this song a year earlier for when she had just turned 9, but you should at the very least watch that one too. This one is the more obscure rendition, she also does one that is "Live" from South Korea that is pretty spectacular. I can't say one is better that the other, but they all show a growth so they are all worth watching. I think the version everybody wanted you to see was the black and white version when she had just turned 9. It is a different take, it's like this one but on steroids. The easiet way to find it is type in 'her name and put a spell on you' and pick the black and white picture. Well a great reaction, am waiting for more.

See her on Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday's "Gloomy Sunday" when she was 7 - even more surprising. There's a black and white video of "I Put A Spell On You" from when she was 9, and it was influenced by the vocal stylings of the original by Screamin' Jay Hawkins. See the KZread video of him singing it on the Arsenio Hall Show.

Honestly, I find it simply amazing that someone as brilliant musically as yourself hasn't tried to find the B&W version of this song. She is a prodigy. That version was recorded when she was nine. It far surpasses this tamer-for-TV version. It was the first true Masterpiece of her collection. It is a must see, these growls are cub sized next to the lion roars in that one. This is taken from that. I would review that even before you react to 7th Heaven which is #22 of newly dropped singles in the Us as of this minute. I expect it to rise.

Well, you’ll hear this many, many times-you listened to the wrong performance, but Angelina has got the goods. The different voice you heard here from the Bohemian Rhapsody voice is something you need to get used to. Angelina changes the character, style, timbre, and tone of her voice to complement the song and genre of music. She was raised on jazz, and she has a special affinity for the vocal freedom of that type of music, but you will also listen to her absolutely kill vocals with just a simple acoustic accompaniment. It’s hard to recommend what you should listen to next because Angelina will wow you with her ability in so many types of music. But I think you should see and hear something completely different (again) from your first two. Try Stay (a Rihanna cover) or A Million Years Ago (an Adele cover) to hear two of acoustic Angelina’s real strengths: her beautiful, deep, resonant voice and her ability to interpret lyrics better than the original singers-and actually better than anyone I’ve ever heard. She doesn’t perform-she lives the lyrics. You probably don’t want to do a public review (but I wish you did) of the FAMOUS version of I Put a Spell on You that Angelina did when she was nine, but here’s the link. You need to see it. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oKt6ztF8gLvgc9Y.html

Yes she's a prodigy. Not only does she have a remarkable voice for her age, she has an ear for subtle jazz elements like the way she'll start a note pure and finish with the most delicate vibrato. I agree on hearing some Amy Winehouse there, as well as Nora Jones, Billie Holliday, even once in a rare while some Ella Fitzgerald. But honestly despite the evidence of these jazz influences, she genuinely has her own style, which is remarkable in someone so young and makes me tremendously excited for what she may achieve in the decades to come.

Good to see a different version of “spell” from the black and white clip that fans of reaction are used to. As theCharismatic Voice predicted, Angelina sings this song differently every time. Your excellent and appropriate reaction to this performance is appreciated but realize AJ is holding back on the throttle here compared to the B&W version (which she performed earlier at age 9). Keep your comment about her "different voice used here" dusted off as you will need it again as that is just what she does over and over seemingly without limit. As I understand I, the black and white version she recorded when she was 9 yrs old is the only one she did when her growl was as pronounced as it is because they told her not to sing it like that because it could damage her vocal cords. So all the other times she has sang this song, it’s been softened down a bit. We therefore are lucky that the one time she sang it that way was actually filmed for posterity and can be enjoyed for future generations.

This is a good version but as folks have noted, and given you the link, her b/w studio version is even more impressive for a 9 year old. She has learned by here to limit the intensity of her growls, etc. Even if you don't react, you should watch it. There are other links below as well. Summertime, Bang,Bang, Feelin Good, Always on My Mind, Its a Man's World, haha, I can't stop. The fun doesn't stop. Stay on this Angelina journey, everybody's favorite rabbit hole, and you will better understand what she can do. You have heard two "voices" of Angelina-- many more to go! Her ability to put more emotion into emotional songs is spectacular. She out- Adeles Adele. Try A Million Years Ago. All her covers become hers. This is both fun and amazing! She was great for Norway's Got Talent, greater for Bohemian Rhapsody and others, greatest is on the horizon (of course, that's a taste thing, but of all the other singers that reactors are doing-- Dimash, Diana, Daneliya, Grace, Aurora, Courtney..etc. etc. The one whose concert I want to go to, whose music I will buy, is Angelina Jordan. Enjoy!

I like your second reaction to our princess of singing. Many Angelina fans always recommend the black and white studio version of this song, but I have to say she did a phenomenal live performances here and in Soul also. I love her live appearances as much as I love the studio version. Many singers and stars can't sing live well, but better not to say names here. This is not the case with Angelina. She has great recording videos and phenomenal live performances. This girl is the best. And let me great the trolls here. Thank you for helping Angelina and the reactor. Byeeeeeee! 🤣😅😂😆🖐🖐🖐

Thank you for reacting to Angelina again. I`m quite happy that you chose this version. I agree thoug with those telling you to view even her studio version of the song, as that one is far beyond incredible and stunning. This live one is totaly impressive though and showing her ability to even manage her version of the song live. The musical track in the video is from her studio version I think. I would also strongly request for you to listen to Angelina`s performances from the "Norvegian Talents" show from 2014, as Angelina was 7 and 8 years old. They are stunning, all 4 of them. Her originals "What is life", "Oslo" and "Shield" are great great songs. So, to get the full picture of what Angelina is all about, I think you should watch examples of her incredible playbook from 6 years old until her AGT performance, as you have already seen. I would love to follow you and learn from your great comments to Angelina`s career so far.

Is there a better version out there? Obviously a matter of opinion, but most of the Angels would have wanted to rewind you when you had that subscription Deja-vu moment and steer you towards the B&W version (it kind of has a few more views...) That one will forever stand as an YT-Legend. And as you've now bitten onto the AJA hook of musical magic, you'll just need to go with the flow and let yourself become Angelinafied. It's difficult to believe, but this precious little 14 years young creature has already well over 100 covers & own songs recorded and available on the tube. Every single one of them is from that Angelina shelf, you know the one well above the top shelf - right where the wall meets the ceiling. Enjoy your ride!

It is not a stretch to say that Angelina is beyond understanding. But you are welcome to try, and I have subscribed hoping you will take that journey. I have listened to her sing, almost every day, for six years now. Fascination became incredulity, which morphed into wonder, which yielded to disbelief. You’ve only scratched the surface. The 9 y.o. Version of her doing this is mind blowing as well. Her version of Rihanna’s Stay is - in my opinion ,better than the original. She has multiple Adele covers that are excellent as well. She even does a couple of Whitney Houston numbers - check out her version of I Have Nothing. I believe you are absolutely correct - she is a prodigy. I also concur with some of the other recommendations for you to listen to- it’s a mans world. I am surprised you found this version as most point to the black & white version done after she had just turned nine probably rehearsed at eight. The song Angelina bases her version on is Jay Hawkins 1956 performance. She rearranged the lyrics and music at eight years old. It’s a much more stylized rendition. You should watch both to see what you are dealing with. Encapsulated history. She was introduced to Jazz by her Grandmother as an infant. You can see her singing Whitney Houston at 18 months. She is scrolling through KZread at two & three looking for Jazz artists. At three she tells her Mother she wants to sing for Simon Cowell. At four you see her in vintage record shop looking for Jazz records and playing piano. Going on five you see her leading interviewer through her home showing her toys and clothes speaking English. She stops picks up plastic toy guitar and states guitar not good and starts singing Rolling In The Deep. At six see her in sound booth singing Tom Jones “ I Who Have Nothing “ reading lyrics in English. She is now speaking Norwegian, Persian, and English. At seven she auditions for Norway’s Got Talent singing Billie Holidays “Gloomy Sunday “. She then sings three more song’s and wins the show singing “Summertime “. During this time her abilities expand exponentially. She is by now in school and after school is taking voice and singing lessons. Playing the piano, violin, flute. None of this is forced by family she is pressuring them for more. At six she told her Mother she she wanted to sing at the Noble Peace Prize Concert and travels to the Middle East with her Grandmother. You will find the story in the comments. At eight she sang at the Noble Peace Prize Concert along with Aurora. She embarks on charity tour around the world singing in Korea for forty thousand people. Sings in Japanese in Japan. Brazil, United States and Europe. She helps raise over 21 million euros for children charities. At nine she writes a book about encounter with young girl on Middle East trip titled “ Between Two Harts “becoming youngest published author in Norwegian history. There is much more. Dig deeper you will be rewarded.

This young lady is simply amazing, it seems nothing she set out to do ends in failure, instead she put her mark on whatever she's done. I was completely convinced when she covered a few of Elvis Presley's songs and I think a couple of Patsy Cline's songs. Keep in mind the two previously mentioned artists were at the top of the music field in the United States and around the world. Both of the names are easily recognized even decades after their passing. Yet this young woman is grounded, still going to school, trying to enjoy her childhood and youth as she should be. Yet she can have an entire stadium full of people at her fingertips in a second's notice. To hear even at age 8 she rearranged music is incredible. In fact the beginning of the black and white I Put A Spell On You she hands the band leader her arrangement of the song, the band leader promptly directs the band in the new arrangement! Any other 8 year old would not yet be mastering the voice much less any instrument or an entire band! I feel enriched having been exposed to her singing and I am 63 and have heard some really good music and artists including Elvis Presley and Patsy Cline. Please do not take my word for it, listen to Angelina, you will be so glad you did!!!

Believe it or not this is a toned down version done a year after her epic performance she did at 9 with a live jazz band. That B & W music video is a whole different take on this Screamin' Jay Hawkins song from the 50's. It is shocking how much attitude a 9 yo can portray & apparently the screams & growls shocked her voice coach & they were eliminated in all later versions. Here is the link for the version that her fans wanted you to do. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oKt6ztF8gLvgc9Y.html You mentioned she had a totally different voice in the earlier song. Believe it or not she does that for every song & that's why I call her the "Angel of 1000 Voices." After you've listened to 125 cover songs across all styles & music genre, you will see she comes up with the perfect voice for each song. I've heard so many reactors say "This song is just perfect for her voice." No, she adjusted her voice to fit the song, perfectly. She also has 5 totally different originals, 3 she composed herself from 11-12, & 2 written specifically for her to originally perform. Wait until you hear her Elvis voice or Amy Winehouse or Lana Del Ray, or Adele or Ella Fitzgerald or Dina Washington or Billie Holiday or on & on. She has them all with a 2.0 upgrade. Her gift to the world of music is her genius ability to re-arrange & re-interpret old classic songs to make them new & current, like she did with Bohemian Rhapsody. She does all her own arrangements & has since she was 7. Finally, the thing that sets her apart from other talented vocal artists is her ability to emote the lyrics. She makes you feel them down to your bones, gives you goosebumps, makes you cry & calms you down all at once. Before you go back to her earlier work, you should check out her 2nd AGT-C performance in the finals where she killed Elton John's classic song Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. It's gorgeous!!! here is the link. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gIqGubt-m5u6Y6Q.html

I wrote earlier about your reaction, but I decided today to listen to this song again-and then go back to Angelina’s original that she did at age nine. Although both show her talent, in the original version in black and white, she’s working live in a studio with a great bunch of jazz guys. The difference is really noticeable. I thought in this later version she sounded rushed-maybe by the show’s time limits. Working with the band, they were totally in sync, and her sense of timing for this classic was absolutely perfect-delays, slides, and also silences to let the band play. A nine year old totally in command of the room, giving a lesson to anyone who wants to know how to sing jazz. Secondly this later version, you’ll see, is tamed down. I’ve read that her coaches wanted Angelina to not harm her voice with her growls and effects. So, despite what you saw here, the B&W version is actually Angelina unleashed. It is a jaw-dropping performance, with Angelina totally selling the song and showing how a singer can growl and howl in tune and in time with the music. If there were a KZread performance hall of fame, that video would be right at the top.

First, I don’t think you reacted to the “wrong” version. Angelina doesn’t do wrong versions. But it may not have been the one some of us expected. The main difference between the two (other than one being live and the other in studio) is that there are more stylistic growls and roars in the studio version and they are more intense. She has never repeated that and as a vocal coach I’m sure you can imagine why. It is indeed shockingly brilliant though. It would be for any vocalist. For a 9-year old it’s just... I dunno... incomprehensible? Give it a listen on your own without the need to interrupt it. I could mention many other songs (see my comment on your BR reaction). But what I would really love to hear is your reaction to Cry Me a River. It is remarkable to me for its maturity, the ease of delivery, and the near absence of vocal tricks and ornaments, riffs and runs, rasp, vocal fry etc, I love all those things and she is a master at using them without overdoing it. But the simplicity of this one with it’s beautiful soft vibrato, it packs a big emotional punch and nearly knocked me silly. I kinda lost it for reasons I won’t bore you with. And the link... kzread.info/dash/bejne/nIpsqquPfJW8dKg.html

The biggest thing about Angelina is her ears........She sings Billie Holiday, she sounds like Billie. She does a version of Summertime, the rasp is right there. Besides just having a great voice, she hears all of the little things that makes the song great. Her first song on Norway's Got Talent was Billie's 'Gloomy Sunday'. She did not get the subject but she got every inflection just right and knocked it out of the park.

I have seen instrumental prodigies. This is the first time that I have been listening to a young vocal prodigy who has the 100% support of her family who guide her and have made sure that she has a childhood and is well educated. They have not let her sign with the folks who have come calling, folks like Disney. She has composed and written the lyrics for three original songs. She does a lot of her own arrangements. There was a live band accompanying her is this performance. I have been amazed at the respect grown men have for her as they work together and she will make last minute changes. That was one of the clinchers for me--the respect much older musicians/artists have for her.
