Hey Jamie! Regarding Juno if she is a bit reactive/nervous work on a “watch me” command at home. Ask her to “watch me” and when she makes eye contact give her a treat. You can start by putting the treat by your eyes and immediately reward for eye contact then slowly take it further away until it’s behind your back and you can say watch me and get immediate eye contact. The goal is to have the command for in public when they react to petiole other other dogs you can get them to watch you and take their mind off of the thing they are reacting to. Make sense? I trained classes for over 20 years and this is the best for nervous pups. They don’t HAVE to socialize and socializing makes dogs like that more nervous. Think introvert anxious people. With shepherds being a working dog the more you work their mind the more mentally stable they are. ❤️

Best thing for Juno is just to see more people outside and more dogs outside. My pup was nervous and scared of everything , cars, people any noises. Just needs to get used to it. Harder when you live more rural xx

I second this! German Shepherds are more of a special breed hahah! The best thing for her is reassurance from you guys when on walks and you, most importantly, need to remain calm and collected because she will sense it if you're not :)

That's definitely the way to go, but I think a lot depends on the dog itself, so appropriate expectations should be set upfront. I have a Groenendael, she's 1.5YO and she's still nervous around new people, even though her walks were always around other people and dogs, playing. She loves other dogs but she just doesn't like if a stranger approaches her too fast. She starts barking and other people take it as aggression, but I know she's just nervous. I don't think she'll ever be the golden retriever / everyone-is-my-best-friend type and that's ok :)

@@dodgethis_ I agree, I have a 3 year old springer spaniel and who goes out with a dog walker in the afternoons while my family and I are at work. She'll be out with as many as 6 other dogs at a time and with those regular dogs she loves it but she doesn't really interact with them she just enjoys the pack mentality of it whereas when we take her on a walk alone she shakes and lies down as if she's trying to hide from other dogs approaching then when they are close enough she just runs by them as quick as possible. We've found the best thing for her is actually going up and speaking to the other dog if the other owner is okay. She relaxes a lot when she sees that the dog is gentle etc and will often play after this.

Agreed, I have a nervous greyhound that was a racer and he was just petrified of everything. He’s still cautious but after we’ve had him 2 years and he’s had so many new experiences he’s come out of that shell! Just work on letting Juno know you will never lead her to something scary! ♥️♥️♥️

All such good comments - that woman was perfect in what she did to help. It’s just a case of trying to meet as many people and dogs as you can but maybe friends and family’s dogs etc so you can take the time like you did with that woman to kneel down give them treats to give her etc and have the ability for it to all be in her own time. She will also rely heavily on other dogs she knows well eg how drogba reacts to a situation or other dogs she knows more will help her relax quicker. But it’s also been said which is good to note that some dogs are just like that in their personality- you can do these things to make it easier and less so but it may not 100% go away and that’s not your fault. One of our dogs we had was raised and taught the same as all our others - she loved adults and children and liked dogs she knew but dogs that we met on walks she was nervous with even though all our others were fine - so try and do more experiences like you had with that woman to help the situation but know it may not 100% go away but that’s no fault of your own. The keys are time patience and something she loves eg food or toys. Wish you all the best

My one dog, Bella, is so nervous all the time. Her older sister is very social, but all Bella wants to do is hide. She is also very vocal about her discomfort. I started taking her on walks in places where I knew she would encounter other dogs and people. I would sit on a bench, and I would let other dogs approach us. I would pet the other dog to show her it’s okay. I’d speak calmly and encourage her. After she would calm down a bit, I’d give her a little treat to reinforce her good behavior. Over time she got much more social. She is still not the most out going dog, but she no longer shakes or barks.

OK we have the SAME situation for our boy dog. We finally got a trainer to come to the house and she spent a few hours with us and came a few days in one week. The MIRACLE she brought was a training clicker and a bag of moist chewy treats. She quickly showed us that Arthur is a really good boy but that he is nervous around other dogs for whatever reason. So eventually we have learned that we do NOT go on a walk without the clicker and the moist treats. When we see a dog off in the distance we click the clicker and then when Arthur gives us eye contact he gets a treat. We do this a few times before the dog gets close. If for some reason he still acts out than we allow him too, but when there is a break in his panic, we click the clicker and if/when he looks at us, we give him a treat. It would make the world of difference to Juno if you got a great dog trainer who uses POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT training and have them come to the house and also go on a few walks, maybe even a drive into town, and watch and learn the approach. We literally have a new dog now!! Its amazing. The trainer also showed us exactly what body language signals Arthur was giving. We never realised before. Now we can tell if he is about to get nervous and change his mind set before it happens. He is a much happier dog now!! XOX

I have the exact same thing with my rescue boy. Since lockdown he's become really nervous and uneasy with things, especially with other dogs on walks. We live in quite a built up area and it's getting so much better now things are going a bit more back to normal and he's meeting more dogs. The hot weather has also helped with everyone around where we live walking their dogs when it gets dark, he meets a few more dogs than normal and he'd becoming much better xxx

We got a pup at the end of feb, same as you with lock down our dog was jumpie and pulling so bad when she saw other dogs and people. But she’s an angel at home. So last month we started putting her to doggy day care, one day a week and what a difference after one visit. The people are so relaxed with the dogs and there left to run around with other dogs. That really helped us. 💗

My highlight of the week. Love

I have a 4 month old shepherd/ bernese and shes the same. Our trainer said when shes over stimulated like that try be prepared with treats when out and about to distract her with them so she relaxes and if you don't have any treats on you try get her attention to focus on you and keep talking to her with a positive voice and try to not get stressed. So far it's working for us, hope that helps!

You are such an amazing fur mommy 😭 I know exactly what panic bark you are talking about too. I started exposing my dog to people again after lock down and she was nervous (she was not before) so I would say definitely bring her around people slowly and maybe some classes on helping her trust other humans again. If she experiences kindness from others other than you and Jack she will ease into other company.

Love the chatty vlogs the bestest 💓 I have a lab retriever who is a nervy dog chatty like Juno, I’ve always heard that it’s also the way you react when they start to act nervous you almost have to ignore it, rather than say it’s okay or anything (which is so hard) that way they sort of learn to realise it’s fine and sort them selves out and your don’t end up re assuring that behaviour. I am no way an expert but I love reading up on this stuff especially when my dog is super nervous and has fits ect xx

My boyfriend and I are no long back from a week in Oban/Mull/Skye/Pitlochry and it was amazing! I always feel guilty that I've lived in Scotland my whole life and I've seen hardly any of it. We were so lucky that the weather was brilliant the whole time, we got to see the islands at their absolute best. You will LOVE the Hebrides ❤

It’s great you and Jack took a well deserved rest, I hope you both do it more often. Both Jack and yourself are doing a great job on your vlogs; your personalities are larger than life and that is what makes it fun. It’s a tough time and all you can do is your best: besides who else has filmed a TV show, raise a pup and launched their own lashes during this time? You guys are doing just great!

I’ve missed you since you’ve both been gone! I’m glad to have yous back! I’m so happy you both had the best time! My mum and dad used to take me to Callander everyday Saturday night for fish and chips and a play in the play park what I was wee! I miss that place! So many memories! 💕

I never got a dog during lockdown but my oldest (Molly) crossed the rainbow bridge v near the start of Scottish lockdown, which meant our other dog Suzi (Mollys puppy) was on her own for the first time, so we really focused on getting her in a new routine to keep her occupied and that included constant walks on her own to build her confidence and keep her used to meeting other dogs. She's still very noisy around other dogs and doesn't like them getting too close, but her tolerance has gotten so much better! So I'd definitely recommend trying Juno out walks on her own and doing things one on one with her, so she knows she's safe and okay with and without Drogs next to her💜

You're glowing queen! Nice refresher! And with Juno, my husky gets super anxious and nervous when we leave our house and i have been giving him a beta blocker (benadryl) helps tremendously! But make sure to get the right one/dosage. She's a large breed so it won't be harmful at all. Love you guys and welcome back! 😚👌💙

Great vlog, seeing round Scotland is really nice. Story time is good bout camping. Maybe just do story time , games/challenges, for your vlogs for awhile. Loved your clothes, the light blue high waisted jeans were my fav and the first jumpsuit you tried on, the leather jacket w buckle was nice too. Xx

I highly recommend getting a hug vest for your puppy. The tightness of the vest helps keep dogs calm. It's just like swaddling a baby.

My dog did the same thing after lockdown was over. Everytime she barks you need to hold her and tell her everything is ok and tell her she's safe, comfort her and she'll get better and realize that everything is ok.

I actually love seeing your day to day regular work life. It’s real and what you do day you day. I don’t think it’s boring at all.

Honestly just seeing you guys cook your meals, play hide and seek, walk the dogs, Scotland scenery, you guys playing video games/watching movies &/or ant like hacks/tricks or tips for home/everyday things.

I have a nervous dog, who used to bark coming across other dogs, we did a reactive dog course which changes how they feel about other dogs when on a walk, takes a lot of patience and treats but it really worked. If you look for something similar it might be really helpful!

Our dog Poppy was quite nervous when she was wee and used to go nuts when she saw another dog. My mum’s pal has a dog walking business and we started getting him to take Poppy out with him a couple of days a week and we feel it has helped her loads when socialising with other dogs x
