KZread content is produced as well by its creators and editors. Most viewers see it as no different. The reality is It’s up to the creator to maintain the appropriate boundaries in their content and what they share that work for them

I think creators should keep in mind that although they may not want to be looked at the same way ppl view reality tv stars, the truth is, it’s really the same. Unfortunately, a down side of your career is that ppl will comment on your life and have opinions on your choices. It sucks but it comes with the territory. There really is no difference between you and the cast of Love is Blind or any another reality show. You mentioned that there is not a producer, but really that doesn’t matter when it comes down to the relationship the audience has with you. I think instead of creators wanting their audience to see/treat them differently than they would reality stars, they should focus on setting clear boundaries and do their own personal work around separating their identity as influencers from who they are to the ppl who really know them. That way, when ppl make their comments, it won’t impact them as much.

I do not agree that only drama and negativity gets views. There is a KZread called Cari Cakes for example. She barely shares any private/relationship information. Walks around neighborhoods and cities and tries coffee shops. Yet her videos are very fun, cozy, aesthetic and infornative. They constantly have high views too. I would love to see simular content from you on this Nomad era too.

Social media is such a fascinating topic... I probably can't imagine how tough it is to feel the need of having a more 'dramatic' life in order to do well in your job... honestly that doesn't seem healthy in the long run. As for your question - as a viewer, contestants of a reality tv show and youtubers are pretty much the same. With the big difference, that youtubers are ore in charge how they want to be portrayed because there is no big production, making them more 'real'. but I think the main problem is that this also leads to more parasocial relationships. While I love that you call your viewers 'friends' this shows a level of closeness from your part so viewers can think that you are actually a close friend to whom they would say different things than to a stranger on the internet, which leads to inappropriate questions and comments. This creates a space with uncertain boundaries and it is the job of the creator to state their personal boundaries.

I absolutely agree. I can't stand it when content creators make everything so dramatic. It's overload, though I understand why it would be tempting to do that. I think watching an upbeat person navigate the real world is so much more worthwhile and enjoyable than watching someone who gets upset all the time and revels in the drama. Michel's channel is my favorite!

I’m a believer that you just have to accept how people are and focus on what you can control. You share your life on social media and while, like a previous commenter said, people tend to judge what you post, it’s inevitable but you can’t control it. So, giving it attention is only helping to feed into it. Once you accept that your life is your life then you’ll just stop caring. And I don’t say that in a rude way. It’s just something you learn as you get older. The older you get, the less you care.

My take is… Are some of the comments rude? Yes. Inappropriate? Debatable since we are in the gray area of real life and self produced reality. BUT is it part of the job? Yea… I feel as artists (professional dancer/choreographer here) once we create what we create and put it out, how it is received and comments made about it is none of my business. Even if it is a project that is personal or part of my personal journey, I controlled what I could and after that it is out of my hands. Again are some of the comments rude? For sure. Is it a not so great part of making a living in the creative field? Also for sure.

I just have personally made a practice of with all things social media, "If I don't have something nice to say, don't say it at all." If there is something I watch that I don't like or don't agree with or feel conflicted, I simply move on from that content. I just don't need to ad noise or negativity into the world.

When a YT channel doesn’t have a particular theme and is more based on “day in the life” and daily vlogging, you’re much more susceptible to riding the highs and lows of popularity because your life is the “theme”. People do tune in to the highlights and lowlights of someone’s personal lives and careers and perhaps get bored with stability. I think the best way to minimise that it to theme your channel so that it’s less about your personal life and more about a specific interest, aesthetic or hobby (i.e. Disney, healthy eating, home decorating, nail art, etc). You will still be open to a level of criticism but your core audience will be much more stable because it won’t be following the highs and lows of your life or a passing phase of your life (i.e. divorce). Just my two cents 😊

I am SO ready to get back into cleaner eating with the new year. I’m planning to cut gluten for the entire year!! I’ve only done it for 6 months and it was so good for me. Can’t wait to get rid of some pesky symptoms and nourish! I love watching what you do. The fact that anyone can follow means you’ll get anyone’s 2 cents. It would be a hard battle to figure out how to let it roll off of you. Your life will always have hills and valleys - the extra income during those times can be part of the silver lining 💖

Have you tried a dog daycare for Max? We find it so helpful when we take our dog on trips with us. We can drop him off for a while so we can go to places that don’t allow dogs, and then pick him up when we are done. They are always so great with him and affordable. The ones we have used divide the dogs by temperament and size so you don’t have to worry about bigger dogs bullying him.

I agree with your comments about people being fascinated by the bad things happening in your life and it is understandable that you'll now get a trough as people who were watching for the drama potter off again, but that tough period you went through did bring you viewers who are happy to see you thrive and they will still stick with you. I actually came across you because of the video where you announced your divorce and I was curious to watch it because I hadn't seen a vlogger being so open about it before. (I'm a divorcee too but a long time ago). I stayed, partly because I felt empathy for you and I wanted to see how you got on and I figured I might potter off once I knew you were going to be okay, because you are much, much younger than me. Now, I'm addicted to your vlog and there is only you and one other vlogger that I watch the second your videos come out. I like your honesty and your thoughtfulness and I'm loving seeing you thrive now. I love watching your travel vlogs and your cooking sections. I'm a thrifter too, although not usually for clothes (more home decoration) and the ones where you catch up with your family (I am TOTALLY in LOVE with your mother, father and sister... oh, how nice to have a family like that! You are a lucky young woman). I'm in Aus and a lot older, so the clothing ones are less in my zone, but I still love watching them because you are teaching me a lot more about beauty and fashion and how to put clothing together to create a style. I have never valued taking the time out for myself before and I'm realising the importance of loving myself and taking time out for myself. You've made me see how little I'm loving myself and how that needs to change. Because of you, I have started sourcing out coffee shops and going to the farmers markets near me, because they give me that mindfulness, that sense of soul food you spoke about in one of your last vlogs. I love watching you and Jordy together and your plans for the future... all of that boils down to me suggesting not to worry too much about the tyre kickers pottering off, you'll always get spurts that die off, but you will also get a slowly growing base of supporters who keep on watching, just because they like fabulous you, so you keep right on doing what you're doing, because it is definitely working.

I admit it. The first video I ever saw was the divorce announcement video. I had never seen you before. The video showed up in my feed and started playing and at first I thought “why would I watch a divorce announcement of someone I don’t know?” Because I am not a fan of drama or tragedy. I doom scroll my news stories out of guilt. I’m afraid of being spoiled and sheltered and in a bubble while others suffer. But my social media? I want 💯 happy healthy to help balance it out. But I did it. I watched. It was your delivery, your rawness, your heartfelt disclaimer. I didn’t know who you were but I honestly cared. So I kept watching and have LOVED the journey you’ve been on back towards happiness. I’ve loved the honesty , the openness, and the delight in discovering a new you on the other side of it all. I may have been introduced by the drama, but I didn’t stay for it, and I much prefer to see you happy. So I’m SO glad it turned out the way it has so far. And I plan on sticking around for the hopeful happy things to come. 👍❤️

I would of been sad and upset for you if you continued to focus on that part of your life and not moved on from your divorce. I also think that maybe a decrease in viewers was to be expected for all social media content creators as Covid isolation decreased and everyone got back to doing more. Know that you are awesome at bringing us along and keeping content and your life interesting to watch ❤

One thing that annoys me, as a viewer of social media content, is how people have this assumption that because you put your life out there.... that gives them the right to judge. In my opinion it doesn't give that right whatsoever. People forget, as viewers, we don't see the whole picture of another's relationship.

just keep in mind a quote is just a quote. it could still be more than what you're quoted. you have no idea what you will run into for issues or anything, especially if you're taking down walls. electrical, mold, HVAC, etc. & in your plans you want to remove two walls that are in the same general area and parallel to each other; chances are likely one, if not both, are load bearing. so you would have to replace that with something. columns, or whatever you'd choose and that's verrrrry costly. source: my boyfriend is a contractor. & he gutted the house we live in; replaced load bearing walls with two columns.

I never watch produced TV anymore. I don't have a Netflix account or any other streaming account. The reason I watch who I watch on KZread is because they bring me joy in some way. I cried many times watching you go through the hard stuff but I find just an average vlog of your life especially when you're with friends and family just having a joyful time those videos bring me so much joy and I'm definitely not someone who likes to only watch for the sad/sensational "click baity" videos. I originally found your channel through a Sip and Thrift because I was getting 2nd hand joy from watching people 2nd hand shop. It's also how I found Chloés channel and many others. Keep spreading joy! You don't want an audience full of gossipy viewers who like watching people's tragedy. Just know that even if the growth slows if you're keeping it real and honest about how good or not good your life is at the moment, you'll have mostly genuine "friends" who want nothing more than to share in your life's joy and are rooting for you!

Really interesting discussion about social media. What you said about TV vs social media was particularly interesting to me. It helped explain why some people might think it’s okay to make inappropriate comments on vlogs. I generally don’t watch TV, so I don’t have the experience of talking about dating TV shows with friends or on social media. It seemed really weird to me when people would make inappropriate comments about vloggers’ relationships. What you said helps to explain that. Fascinating! Sadly, I don’t think there’s much you can do about the inappropriate comments. This video might help educate whoever was watching, but there will be viewers who have missed this. I’d be curious if you’ve noticed that it helps to remind people that you’re not interested in hearing negative comments about your relationships. Reminding people this is real life not a TV production and asking people not to be rude might help some, but then it’s up to you to remember that you know yourself and your life better than anyone else and let the negative comments go. The negative comments aren’t about the real you or your real life, they’re about some made up version of you and your life in the commenter’s head. Hope that makes sense. Also, I did start watching you regularly when you got divorced, but I stayed because I like you and your focus on being real, trying to stay positive and grateful, and how intentional you are about most things. You remind me to try to do the same. 😊

I think in my brain it’s the same in regards to watching a tv show and watching creators. I care for creators and their life events just as I might for a character in a show. Something else I thought of is how I would feel so deeply for a character in a show and when chatting about it with others I would receive feedback like “it’s just a show”. But now with the invention of creators that’s not the case necessarily. I don’t think my brain knows the difference unless I make a conscious thought to do so.

If you actually care what people say or disagree with… The reality is that you already are not 100% comfortable with what you are choosing to do, be and portray for the world openly on KZread. That is a personal problem and only for us to fix within ourselves. Unless deep down I know something is inappropriate behavior, bad, not genuine etc. I do not care what others think because it is my life… I would only question myself if I already knew I was wrong in some way. As a professional performer (ballet dancer) this is something I accepted a long time ago…

I've never seen your videos and stumbled on this. I live near NOLA so watched it. It's an AMAZING city!! It's wild how hot it is and here we are in Dec. As far as what you said about social media, I think that people only post comments on relationships when creators show/discuss their relationship on social media. The channels I follow, including a few that I guess you'd call "lifestyle" type channels, the women are married or in relationships but they never mention/feature/talk about their men too much so I can't even really be sure. So the comments are just about the books/recipes/puzzles/whatever the person's doing lately. I personally appreciate it a ton because I think the bachelor type shows are just not very interesting and I'm not on youtube to watch ppl date LOL. I don't know if you're in a relationship or married, but it sounds like you're maybe thinking about sharing a relationship in the future -- so I'd tread very cautiously as it invites criticism.

Your Channel is great and it’s so interesting following your Nomad journey. You don’t seem fake and are interested in keeping healthy and having a fulfilling life and them are the blogs I like to watch. To answer your question, I don’t think there is any cross over between people understanding that your vlogging a real life vs reality tv. People comment on your life as it’s easy for people to do that as it’s not “to your face” and they will not differentiate between what sections they can and cannot comment on. It’s also more difficult for people to consider it may have an impact on you as you are not someone they personally know. That may be wrong but I think that’s just part and parcel of being a creator, sadly.

I think people stay with You Tube channels because they love the content, not the drama. Personally the drama puts me off, there is too much of it in daily life and the news, I don't look for or need any more. Loved you showing us around a bit of New Orleans too. Your travel content is the most interesting....

I know super clickbaity titles and videos that hint that they might have sections of high emotion, I tend to avoid because of my own emotional stability and how affected I am by other people's emotions. So many of your early divorce vids I haven't seen. But I have been watching more as your life has got more steady. There are those out there who will fill in the gaps and who want that peace and social company that comes from the everyday vids as your life gets healthier. It makes us feel less lonely, and gives us something to look forward to in the monotony of life

The algorithm pushed your videos (at least for me) post divorce, and I stayed because I appreciated your honesty and vulnerability, as well as your subscription and thrive reviews. While there’s definitely some validity to folks being more interested in your drama, you are the editor and producer of your own content and have the creative freedom and control to frame the narrative in the way that you want. Of course you can never please everyone, and no one is above criticism, especially when constructive. For me, I’ve become a bit more disengaged with your content because it’s becoming repetitive. I’m wishing you would step out of your comfort zone more and do so independently. New Orleans is a vibrant place full of so much culture and history, so to see you doing the same things you would normally do in Texas (work, coffee, shopping, chat) is a bit disappointing. Even if you don’t drink (I don’t either) the live jazz music at New Orleans lounges and bars is unmatched! I grab myself a soda water with bitters and take in the atmosphere! The world is your oyster, Michel, and I’m wishing you the best and hoping that as you continue your journey, you feel more comfortable seizing all of the wonderful opportunities you have that many do not have access to. It takes baby steps, but please don’t wait on joint trips with Jordy to thoughtfully and safely try new things and explore your surroundings. City walking and art tours are such great and low budget way to get to know new places and even meet new people. Rooting for you girl!
