He's very expressive. What an incredible child. I remember 3 years ago in the Menuhin final he played "Summer" while Chloe played "Winter". Both are great in their own way.

Musical ghosts from Vivaldi's era has descended upon that little boy.

Incredibly fast but with total precision. Every note as clear as the previous. Christian is making pieces regularly played sound like new. He has defiantly got his own style and this is serving him well. This will be the first of many albums for this very talented violinist. Already pre-ordered my copy.

Everyone can have different feelings and preference toward different interpretations. What you think the best doesn't equal it is the best. @@ThuanPham-wq6gm You’re entitled for your own opinion as much as Narykoone is entitled for an opinion of his/her own. Let’s observe some of the differences between the versions: 1. The VOM version is trying its best not to be an interpretation but a re-enactment of the original piece Vivaldi composed and arranged. They are using music instruments as close as possible to the instruments that were used in Vivaldi’s lifetime. 2. The solo violinist in the VOM version is older and a woman. Most important, she is not conducting the orchestra. She’s there to play her part as flawlessly and accurately as possible. And again, it has to be as close as possible to Vivaldi’s original composition and arrangement. 3. Christian Li is barely 14. He plays the entire piece flawlessly, he is conducting an orchestra made of musicians that some of them could be his parents and some can even be his grandparents. I can only assume he was involved at arranging the version and he put into it his interpretation. 4. Music is about interpretations. You may prefer one and others might prefer other. I adore Christian’s interpretation precisely for its flaws. For example - the 2 screechy notes at the beginning of his solo. Winter is one of the most terrifying seasons. Natural events that come in the winter could make you cringe and shiver (heavy rains / snow, dreadful cold, horrific floods, mesmerizing thunders and lightnings). 5. Interpretations are affected by many things. I’m sure Christian’s age affected it, it could be one of the reasons he’s rushing in most parts (rushing to my opinion, hopefully not to his). Listen to his “Summer” again and hold in mind that Christian is Australian and Australia’s biggest “problem” of recent is not the COVID-19 pandemic, but huge continent wide fires that destroyed a fair amount of land in Australia. All that happened just about a year ago. I can only assume it had an effect on Christian’s interpretation of “Summer”. 6. Again, he’s 14. Playing flawlessly, conducting and most likely arranged some to all of the piece to his interpretation. I can only hope we will hear his interpretation of the Four Seasons once again when he’s 31 (a random age) and I’m almost certain it will be different, not better or worse, just different. I can only hope he will now face off with other pieces, maybe Grand Caprice by Ernst cause he is one virtuoso when it comes to playing the violin (and I really hope for a version to even remotely compete with Hilary Hahn’s version from when she was 17).

searched the internet high and low, and Li's version is still THE best

I don't get what's unprofessional about having fine tuners on all strings. Maybe it's the violin that's just hard to tune with the pegs, or maybe he just prefers the fine tuners. Is there a down side to having fine tuners?

@@theangrydonut5142 But that analogy is a little off. Fine tuners don't slow you down. And why do violinist keep a fine tuner on their E string? Never get passed the beginner stage on the E string? And why do professional cellists often have them on two or even more strings?

Had the pleasure of witnessing this genius live in concert yesterday. He plays with the precision of Mutter and the intensity and youthful exuberance of a young Mozart, along with fresh new instrumentation. Thank you, Christian.

Christian's emotional interpretation of this piece is brilliant, although sometimes his delivery is a little fast and inconsistent. His technique, though, is solid and all the negatives will eventually disappear with time and maturity. I seldom enjoy hearing Winter being played because so many mess it up, but this performance generated real shivers. He is a genuine talent on so many levels, and it's so obvious how he understands and loves the music.

I’d say Vivaldi himself would have been amazed by this interpretation!

That final tempo change, in last 15-20 seconds, made the hairs stand on the back of my neck

Dude, Christian Li deserve the world

You know what's best about this? He's around 14 - but nobody talks about it, nobody even mentions it. And why should they? Ever since the Menuhin competition he's a completed virtuoso; a musician of a really, really rare quality and class. The ultimate mix between precision, loyalty to music, utmost expressiveness, vigour, and the most vibrant sound imaginable. He's only 14 and there are no visible boundaries to his technical abilities. But what I love even more than that is his flowing, flexible, pulsing and passionate phrasing. The precise ear will however hear some burstings here and there. Some spts that go slightly over the top, slightly not measured - but it's never in itself. He's experimenting - he's searching. He's driven from a huge curiosity towards music, rather than the self-centered ego. That's why he can and he will do truly great things ahead. Thank you for sharing, this is a true and utter feast for the soul!

@Jaemin Yoo Apparently my mistake... there's few information online about him and his personal details; they never go ahead with his age, and they do well. It's practically unimportant if he's 13 or 14, or 18: he is and since the Menuhin, alwais been assessed to the criteria applicable to those of senior musicians of the highest class.

I really love Christian's 'Winter', 1st, 2nd, and 3rd movements are all quite unique. I love other seasons too, especially summer, and spring and autumn bring out different tastes too ( maybe I need to stop now, I just love all of them) but 'Winter' is the most surprising, just so different compared with other versions of Four Seasons. Christian's special techniques and creative ideas make this concerto much more interesting and give me goosebumps. I can literally feel winter.

The monstrous technique is part of his DNA, so he can indulge in a passion worthy of the best concert of the golden age of rock stars. He takes your breath away. He's unique like a cosmological phenomenon that occurs once a century. He's a gifted child.

There are two violonists which I admire: Rainer Honeck from the Vienna Philharmonics - and Christian Li! Its feels like composed this music in this moment! And somehow I remember Carlos Kleiber, the great conductor. It just makes me happy to listen to Christian. Thank you soooo very much!
