Vitamin D and MS - Are We Taking it Wrong?!?

Vitamin D, are we taking it wrong? Many take vitamin D when they have multiple sclerosis (MS), but are we taking it wrong? Low vitamin D levels have been associated with developing MS and associated with development of new lesions. How we take it could affect how well it is absorbed. In this video I share why vitamin D is important, who could benefit from taking it, and simple ways to help it be more effective for us.

Vegan Hot Cocoa
1 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tbsp. maple syrup
1 dash of salt
1/4 tsp. of vanilla extract
12 oz. unsweetened almond milk
Mix the cocoa powder, maple syrup, salt and vanilla in a microwave safe mug. Stir in the almond milk until well combined. Heat on 80% power for 1 to 2 minutes until it is hot. Alternately you can add ingredients into a small saucepan and heat over medium high heat on the stove until hot.

    Don't forget K2! It's super important to include with D3 & magnesium. It gets the calcium out of the blood and into the bones where you want it to end up.

    Yes it does...I spent 15 years trying to no avail to get my D up...finally heard about K2-mk7 and added that, plus magnesium plus calcium (from dairy)...went from the low teens to present level in the low 80's in 6 months. No thanks to any doctor either...gathered the info from other sources.

    Thanks for watching. I did look into topical magnesium, unfortunately very little is absorbed through the skin. Some can get absorbed near hair follicles and sweat glands but they make up less than 1% of our skin area. Check out this review www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5579607/ They did end by saying more research is needed though.

    Thanks for watching Carl. You are absolutely right that most plant milks classify as ultra processed foods. We use the Whole Foods 365 brand. It does contain multiple ingredients but we using sparingly or as a treat. When I was first diagnosed I was working with a nutritionist and I asked “How good do I half to be?” She recommended that I try for 90%. 😉

    Speaking of vitamin D absorption lets not rule out , toss 'n forget it's relation to obesity. body fat can reduce the absorption of vitamin D3 and is thought to be one of the reasons for vitamin D3 deficiency in obese people. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, meaning it must bind to fat to be absorbed and used by the body. When vitamin D is absorbed or synthesized in the skin, it is converted to its active form in the liver and then in the kidneys. Since fat cells can bind vitamin D, obese individuals have a greater volume of fat cells that effectively "trap" vitamin D, making it less available for conversion to its active form -- Once again, another valuable video.     Ohhhh maybe a nice reason to treat myself to an epsom salt bath once or twice a week.....magnesium is supplied that way through the skin . .I have a difficult time eating when I flare with CRPS and so far my doctor and a pain specialist still don't believe it could be anything else. My chiropractor mentioned to me I should be tested for MS . I never mentioned to her that I believe the CRPS has turned into MS . Still searching for a doctor who will listen though and offer to test me. I'm stuck in a rock and hard place, if I can close out the workers comp case in which the CRPS occurred then I can break free to find new docs. There is more to my case than meets the eye

    Hi Michele, it definitely can be a symptom of MS is your optic nerve has a lesion or is inflamed (optic neuritis). A doctor could tell you for sure.

    @ oh no, I am so sorry you have migraines as well. I hope the doctors can help you with the pain. Please try to focus on the things you can control; eat the most nutritious foods you can, exercise as you are able, try to get good sleep, and practice mindfulness and meditation.
