My favorite Timeline/Ancient Tracks episode of ever! Such gorgeous scenery and wonderful stories. And Morris dancing! What more would one need?
Watching this during the Covid Pandemic makes that tragic story hit different.
As a cartographer myself, I wish to congratulate the map makers for their nice graphics shown on the maps in this interesting documentary; well done!
The Violinist, Bella Hardy, has a beautiful voice and very talented.

I agree, it is so clear and beautiful. Unlike many singers of today, there is no need for music to cover the voice, it simply graced her voice.
This is my favorite episode of this series. So much beauty and such a sad story woven in...
And the irony of watching this during lockdown in 2020 is a little eerie.
Animal Liberation and Animal Welfare! WOW! I thought Peter Singer was the first to address the topic. I'm so glad I watched this video, and will make a point to read D.H. Lawrence. thanks for another great video.
Love Tony’s documentaries. But when he said “boom boom boom” I was taken back to Baldrick andBlackadder.
Should have time team come and dig. The lady playing violin and singing should have a album out, too beautiful!

"Portway" is the french "port" - to carry. So the name dates from the Norman Conquest. Its prior name would presumably have been "Carriageway". This was the main haulage route, presumably because it stuck to the high ground and did not get bogged down in streams and valleys. "T'auld man" appears to be Mycenean, 13 century BC. possibly earlier as it tends to the Minoan. But how did it get there and is it faux. If it is real, it is the sort of thing that one of the early romantics may have brought back from Greece (Nauplia) in the 19th century. It may be a tourist replica. If it is not fake and it was there in the 13th century BIG questions have to be asked.

Thank you for the explanation! You confirmed my suspicion that the term portway most likely referred to porting or carrying, as in portage.
D.H. Lawrence's account makes me think about how J.R.R. Tolkien captured the conservative nature of the Shire, and how easy it was for Sharkey to take control.
I love thise vidios whit Tony. He tells the histories so living. You get totally sugt in. Keep them comming pleas. Greatings with a lot of historic loving from Denmark (🇩🇰) 😊❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful voice of an Angel what a singer.
Porte as in French for carry Porte mon sac . Carry my bag. Porte Way, a carry way for goods.

Had my Semester Abroad at Nottingham Trent in 1995. I got to Eastwood to see the museum but this would have been enjoyable too.
This just made me remember that I forgot that I know how to Morris dance! I still have my hankies. :) The sticks were the fun part. I love the music for this series.
That moment he mentioned Quarantine...
Love your series
Nice to know that nature rules & rocks.🌏
THank you.

A wonderful complement to this video would be some of the books written by Robert Macfarlane about Britain's natural landscape and old pathways. If you love language, be sure to read his "Landscape."

Prog sound probably aimed at 5 or 7 Dolby surround sound systems. Don't think you tube compression respects that. So it doesn't sound right on here.

This is indeed so debunking / exposing ! Its the utterly proof that they do NOT love their flock . . . same with King of GB . . .
I love everything but the audio is horrible !!!!
I’d appreciate hearing about DH Lawrence from a host and Subsequent interviewers who actually like his work and personhood. I felt myself cringing every time a description was presented. Do you dislike him because he disliked Britain? I suppose that would be a human thing to do.
