Nan (น่าน), Thailand - Welcome to Nan, one of the most beautiful and laid back provinces in Northern Thailand. Today we are going to Bo Kluea (บ่อเกลือ), the legendary natural salt wells. People have been coming to this village in the mountains for centuries to trade salt. It’s an amazing place to visit when you’re in Thailand and here’s a guide for what to do when you visit.
So the actual village is called Ban Bo Luang (บ้านบ่อหลวง), but most people just know it as Bo Kluea (บ่อเกลือ), the salt wells. It was about a 2 hour drive from the city of Nan to get to Bo Kluea (บ่อเกลือ) and the drive is spectacular.
Once you’re there, the main thing to do is visit the salt wells, which are right along the main road in the village, you can’t miss it. First have a look at the actual wells that produce salty water. Then you can navigate your way to one of the huts where they still boil the water over wood, to evaporate the water and leaf huge mineral salt crystals. Since times have changed, and people are no longer trading salt, the community has shifted to tourism - especially Thai local tourism, and they make a series of salt products that you can buy to support them.
Khao soi - 30 THB ($0.95) - We were getting hungry, so for lunch we had a delicious bowl of khao soi, Thai curry noodles. The restaurant is just past the first salt wells. Curry noodles were delicious and Aunty was friendly.
Highly recommended to visit Bo Kluea (บ่อเกลือ) when you visit Nan, Thailand!

Thank you very much for Cam. I'm so glad that, even though the trading has changed (salt is available everywhere), they have been able to preserve this ancient tradition with tourism. Very cool!

You Mark is my inspiration. Knowing my family traits that my gma came from Thailand and my gpa came from Cambodia. Back then he had to travel to Thailand to meet my grandma. When they met they moved to Cambodia and started a life there and had about 8 kids plus my mom. 1 didn’t make it on the way here due to the Khmer Rouge... My grandparents gotten so lucky and gotten sponsored! And can’t even believe my mom found the news article the day they came to America! So much to even say. You make me want to visit their old farms and family who is stuck in Thailand and in Cambodia.. my grandparents was the best cooks originally cooked from Cambodia and Thailand. But they have since passed.. Now my mom has all the ingredients to even pass down to me. I’m now third generation in my family to pass down the story, language and traits!

Beautiful lush place. The close up shots of your camera captured how selectively she chose smaller pieces of chicken to serve you and other ingredients sparingly.

13:41 Wow the plating on that bowl of khao soi is gorgeous. I've eaten quite a few bowls in my stay in Chiang Mai but none looked as exquisite as that.
The close ups and slow mode on the noodle soup were amazing. The food was just danceing around in the plate. I will try filming that way as well. 😊
