Visiting Slave Memorial in Zanzibar Stone Town | Tanzania Ep #4

One of the world's biggest slave marketplaces was located in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Although though the slave trade existed over the whole island, the majority of these cruel exchanges took place in three significant marketplaces. The brutality of the market in Stone Town was well-known. The pit and the Slave Market Monument are situated in the same area where slaves were taken and sold. Clara Sornas from Scandinavia built this monument in 1998.
A home with the slave cellar, one of fifteen low-ceiling chambers, is located on one side of the memorial. These cramped, dark, and unsanitary cells were where the slaves were held as they awaited the auction block. Captives marched to the yard after being called to it.
