Visiting an abandoned football ground: Shawfield Stadium

Спорт

We broke into Shawfield to explore the history of this famous old football, athletics & dog racing ground.
There are sooooo many stories to unpack here. These are just a few of my favourites.
Clyde played at Shawfield from 1898 to 1986 and were formed themselves in 1877.
They won the Scottish Cup in 1939, 1955 and 1958. But sadly they've been missing from the too division since 1975.

Interesting video. It brought back memories of standing on the terracing for matches against Thistle.

I'm glad you liked it. I took my Jags pal along with me actually. He enjoyed the "F*#k the Jags" graffiti 😂

Very well shot and good commentary . I follow Scottish league football and support Queen of the South . Have been to Shawfield to watch dog racing , used to have the Scottish derby there . Seemed a very big ground for Clyde FC , or did Clydebank play there ?

Thanks very much! I appreciate you. If you haven't already, please like and subscribe to our page. There's more where that came from! I've played at Palmerston Park before but have never been as a supporter. It was a large stadium perhaps for the club, but my understanding is that there are fans of the club who want to move back.

I watched the Glasgow Tigers speedway team race there in the late 80s.

One of the best things to do in Glasgow is to watch the speedway. Fantastic alternative around the city! I believe it attracted large crowds back then? Is that true?

I remember going there with my dad to watch in the 80's and all I can remember is the reek of piss from the stand never mind the toilets 😂

@@footballmakesglasgow Can't remember most of them, I was pulling dandelions throwing stones and playing with someone's greyhound 🤣 I do remember parts of the Aberdeen game in the cup because there was a crowd and had to stay close to my dad, that was he last game I was at there before we moved out of Glasgow.

@RighAlban Love that there was a greyhound there while you were watching the game. How ironic give the tradition of dug racing!

Sorry, but I believe Bellshill Athletic were the 1st British club to wear a club sponsor on their strips in the 1972/73 season.

I did not know this! Thanks for sharing. I've learned since this video that Hibs are likely the first top flight club in Scotland to have a shirt sponsor back in 1977. Always learning! I hope you enjoyed the video 👍

@@footballmakesglasgow enjoyed the video very much as I used to train at Shawfield with Clyde when the late, great Craig Brown was the manager. So sad to see it now.

@@footballmakesglasgow I do, as I also played for Motherwell reserves when Jock wallace was manager. When I went to Africa I was given citizenship to Bophuthatswana by the president so I could play for the National team.
