Virgin West Coast HST memories - Part 1
On the final weekday of HST operation on Virgin West Coast, 43098 and 43123 make a smokey exit from London Euston with the 1825 to Manchester Piccadilly on Friday 21st May 2004. This was to be their last ever departure from London Euston.
43098 and the set was transferred to sister company Virgin Cross Country the next day, with 43123 working one last time for Virgin XC the next day (see my Virgin Cross Country HST memories - Part 3 video) before transferring to Midland Mainline's 'Rio' fleet.
Note the tolling bell in the background as the train departs - very poignant, if coincidental.

Rip VTWC and i was so sad when i heard the news, heck i also still even start to cry even to this day.
it was like special effects(smoke) for a good send off.
The smoke coming out of 43098 is quite unreal.
Was this real?
Whoever said smoking was bad was wrong.....

Well don’t say smoking vapes and weed is not wrong because it makes you feel like crap 💩 genuinely it was for more
Odd for the HST to be on a Manchester working. Weren't they usually Chester/North Wales from Euston?

There were a couple of Euston to Manchester (and v.v) HST services to cycle the sets through Longsight depot.
