Happily, this wasn't the end for HSTs on the cross-country network. When the IEPs enter service, I hope Arriva take over some of the surplus HST's, convert all long distance services back to HST operation, and send the Voyajunks back to Belgium, where they belong! Virgin should never have gotten rid of the HST's. Instead of wasting their money on the Voyajunks, they should have kept the HST's, rebuilt the class 47's as 57's and, when the class 87s and MK3 sets were being made redundant on the West Coast, transfer them to Cross-Country to replace the 86's and MK2's. If Virgin had done those things they might still have the Cross-County franchise. The Voyajunks are second only to the Pacers as the worst trains ever built!

@MKTTransportVideos9 жыл бұрын
thomsonfly645k They variously cut them down as the Voyager diagrams came in. There was a point where they only had five. Much like how Grand Central's HSTs only have 6. On the other hand, the East Coast ones have nine.

I will always love the HST, I think Virgin made them look great! But the Voyagers are brilliant. It is hard to place them against each other. With Virgin/Stagecoach winning the East Coast Franchise, which will be officially known as Virgin Trains East Coast, I wonder what the livery applied the Intercity 125 and Intercity 225 will look like, because Virgin will have had the franchise for at least 3 years by the time the Intercity Express classes 800 and 801 will have been introduced, so I expect some will have some livery on them. They have also said they will refurbish both fleets, which is nice. What it will also mean is that Virgin will be present/responsible/indirectly responsible for the majority of the demise of the HST fleet on both the Intercity West Coast Franchise and the Intercity East Coast Franchise. Will they also gain the Greater Western Franchise from First? I wonder...
