Virgin Australia B738 Melbourne to Canberra Flight Review - A duopoly route!

This video was filmed on 15 January 2021, before the Holiday Inn coronavirus cluster occurred in Melbourne. Please avoid any non-essential travel and follow the government health advice if you live in a coronavirus hotspot.
After the collapse of Tigerair Australia, the Melbourne - Canberra route is now back to a duopoly. The price a passenger has to pay to fly on this route has returned to three-digit again. I paid $187 for this flight, how was my experience with them this time? Let's find out in this video.

I think melbourne remains my favourite airport in Australia and the Virgin terminal looks very fresh and modern. Onboard no complaints, loved the rolling eyes of your seat neighbour on boarding! Thanks once again 👏

This is an excellent trip report and I agree that snack just doesn't cut it. I would never pay that fare unless I was time poor. The train is a better option for me as I am not a good flyer. However, travelling from Melbourne entails a change at Cootamundra to a bus and that doesn't suit everyone.

Another enjoyable comprehensive flight review. Surprised that a 3 year old aircraft isn’t fitted with USB chargers, particularly when Virgin is expecting their “guests” to use their own mobile devices.

Rex did fly Melbourne-Canberra long ago. But with so much of Canberra's traffic being corporate and government, where people aren't paying for their own tickets, who have contracts with Qantas for full service Virgin struggle to get much of the traffic. And Jetstar obviously won't be interested, it would risk cutting parent company Qantas' revenues from the relatively few personal flights more than cutting into Virgin (and the ACCC might look into it if they looked like undercutting Virgin out of the market to create a Qantas monopoly).

Amazing isn’t it . When this started , I remember the Prime Minister refusing any extra assistance to Virgin Australia. Now they have given a huge amount of money to the airlines. Also expect Rex to get treated well too seeing its boss is an Ex Government minister. So we give more money to Qantas which was always going to happen, money that would have kept some of Virgin in Australia & have lost Virgin to an American investment bank. Thanks Australian Government.

I do love Virgin Australia but what is it with Australian Airlines and those soya snacks, if you are paying for a premium product and they market there Airlines as such then offer an acceptable snack. For a dinner time flight at least a sandwhich and a hot drink or can of soft drink would be appropriate. Loved all the history of Melbourne Airport you included and the additional facts. Great review once again. Thankyou so much👍

It’s a shell of Virgin Australia, not the Virgin before the Virus . Owned by a US bank I believe . So sick of the Government not supporting some Australian based companies & at every opportunity handing out money to Qantas.
