"VINTAGE TRICKSTER" - HOW SEAN MCVAY USES TIMELESS OFFENSIVE CONCEPTS TO DECEIVE THE NFL

i keep telling our fans, that think mike out coached sean mcvay in that game 🤦🏽‍♂️ sean mcvay is a offensive genius. i’m not saying mike isn’t a good coach, i wanted mike macdonald instead of ben johnson, im just saying that raven vs rams game went to OT and ravens only won that game because that OT punt return. So to our fans, stop saying mike out coached sean because he didn’t, it was a battle to the end.

I thought I replied to this. The Ravens Defense was completely unprepared for the 11 Personnel Under Center Run game, which I think happens to be a relative weakness of Macdonald's scheme in Baltimore. As an aside, the Ravens Defense has had trouble against 11 Personnel UC Run game stuff before MacDonald's tenure as the DC, as well. McVay does a great job of "holding the chalk last", which I tried to discuss in this video. I thought McVay and the Rams did a fantastic job of setting the tone in that game, and the Ravens Defense stayed very balanced but didn't really take away anything. Tough game. Both teams put on a show. All_Hawks I might try to explore the Seahawks Nickel Defense as it relates to Macdonald's Defense in a Film Study video soon

100%. Great comment. I think I have heard or read about that somewhere, but I was unable to verify iit just now. I believe you, because the markers are there. Red/Blue is a Base 2 x 2 formation, and the width/alignment of the "Wings" (WR's) is a near-perfect match. Thank you for checking this one out.

The comment that he "calls the concept then the QB decides" whether it's 1, 2 or 3 is exactly why he was getting frustrated with Goff. Goff kept asking for McVay to tell him if it was 1, 2 or 3. McVay wants you to learn how to run by showing you how to walk, Goff wouldn't let go of his hand. Same reason Goff does better with the Lions. Johnson's play-calling is tighter. Goff can & will call audibles *to switch **_concepts_* if he sees a defensive alignment he doesn't like, but you have to give him more than just the concept. He isn't comfortable adjusting to the details. Same with Cousins. Both he & Goff act like they're nearly terrified when they have to improvise. I felt like Cousins was just getting over this fear 2, 3 weeks before the achilles tear. Vikings luck. Goff on the other hand still seems _very_ easily rattled which is why the Bears were one play away from sweeping them this past season. They got to him early & he stayed rattled almost all of both games.

If it was another team with an aging injury prone QB who just lost a HOF captain and has a roster full of holes, relying on rookies to even be as good as they were last year. They would not be getting the hype the Rams are getting because they are still trying to build the LA market. They started 3-6 and had the NFLs easiest strength of schedule from week 10, they will be lucky to be the 7th seed.

I thought the Rams were going to be a tough team to deal with in the playoffs, especially after seeing how they were able to control the ball and be at efficient against the Ravens. I think they could be similarly dangerous next season.

@@all_22_films So you're basing your opinion off what the Rams can do off one Ravens game and not 9 games they played before week 10 before other teams were dealing with late season injuries. If you like id rather look at what they did as the season as a whole.

That’s a great video and analyze man I’ve been watching the mcvay offense since he got in la and you really put words on what I observed and made me understand things I couldn’t see. This being said I think mcvay is an offensive genius with no doubt excellent in making scheme elite in making game plan however when it comes to play calling I was one of the ones early in the 2023 season saying he was too inconstant. What do you think of that ? Do you Differentiate a OC capacity to make game plan a playbook and it’s capacity to call the plays ?

It is meant as a compliment. McVay's Offense is very different in appearance and application from most NFL Defenses, so I was going for the Joker comparison as someone who breaks the rules and outsmarts most of the NFL while doing so.
