Speedboat race at North Somercotes in the 1970s. Vintage footage of lake racing with a collision resulting in a boat sinking.
The film features boats racing at high speed and some classic waterskiing and monoskiing. I am not sure what model or class of boats these are ( Albatross ?) but its nice to see them in action together with some vintage outboards including Mercurys and Evinrude. Original film is Kodachrome Standard 8mm and scanned and digitised by us www.moviescan.co.uk

Visions of my 1960 14ft fiberglass runabout with my 50 merc on it.
This is how I drive my boat on my way to the fishing spot. W F O
My 13' speedboat dates from this era. It had already had its day and was gathering weeds in the corner of a boat boneyard when I found it in 2003. Totally refurbished (hull repairs, new bulkheads, screen, seats, carpet, transom, electrics, bilge pump, and old 2-stroke Yamaha 40 replaced with 4-stroke Merc 40) and she is enjoying a second incarnation (or third or fourth, who knows!) In a bay full of today's latest latest RIBs and sports boats, she turns heads and certainly holds her own. A well made Deep V coupled with the appropriate power plant is a timeless recipe!
Brings back very happy childhood memory's of my granddad's racing days he raced at north somercotes his home club was tattershall. Thankyou very much for posting this .

Yes ,, I have RYA licenses for him from 1967 to 1974 .On a side note my grandad built his own boats from marine ply like many did from this era.

We had a several caravans on that campsite ( Lakeside Lido) from mid 1960's to mid 1980's. So we saw several of these races.
WANNA KNOW HOW OLD THESE RACES ARE???? JUST LOOK AT THE CARS BEHIND THE RACE...!! FANTASTIC!!!

Yeah, and over on dry land next door, the kids were wailing away on 2 stroke dirt bikes.
Great video., the music treble guitar on 20 horrible. I am from 1961 and hate fender tin. I have 2 fenders, but add bass to them.
I like the music but not during boat videos. I want to hear the engines. So many people think the music makes their videos better, well, not need.

Correct me if I'm wrong but we had a Bell & Howell Super 8 camera in the 60s and 70s and it had no audio capabilities...just visual. I think the music was a very nice addition to classic film. Reminds me of an early Bruce Brown production. Well done 👍

@@paulcallen6129 Ahh, that would make a difference. I watched several boat videos with different kinds of music added and some I don't like. I think most of those, being obviously more recent, would have been better with the original sound's. Makes you feel more like you're there enjoying the experience. I love the old boats and motors though.
