So cool 😎 I think I should have been born in the 1950s. Love your energy and work ethic. You're the neighbor every real man wants.

I remember that descompresión meter as a kid in the 70s and remember the healthways brand and yes diving was a lot more fun the sea was healthy and full of fish now the sea is just a lonely tear .

Vintage scuba my favorite videos! My dream is new vintage scuba playlist like the one from the past. I watched them all many times. I enjoy learning about vintage scuba gear and way they been used. Double hose is the most iconic vintage scuba regulator. Bubbles behind head which single hose regs can't do! Regards

Hi Alec, I really enjoyed this one because the first regulator I purchased was a Healthways, 1970 Scuba-Star TD. It was about $50 new. By that time all the second stages were downstream valves, and they had rubber exhaust diverters. I still have it hanging on the wall. A few years later I bought a AMF Swimaster (Voit) MR12 which later became the Mares MR12 with some minor changes. It also hangs on the wall LOL. Thanks again for the entertainment.!

That’s was great to see you back talking about vintage scuba gear again. I wish I could a catalog for my Hollis regulator’s so I could service them myself and my wife could do the same. Needs to do more of that vintage scuba. Thanks Will

I agree with you
the most important step have been the development of the Cousteau-Gagan regulator regulating the air from the tank pressure to the ambiant in one stage and finally in 2 stages following by passing from 2 hoses to a single hose design, since, I can assimilate the modifications to fine tuning. When you say New and improved, it rings to my ears " cheaper ", a good example in your video is the second stage exhaust that passes from chromed brass to plastic . I work on brass and plactic second stages and I always fear breaking something when I work on a plastic second stage because as plastic takes age, it looses its flexibility and becomes brittle however, a brass second life is good for a lifetine of many generations, it even resists to a fire and stays rebuildable as long you can find parts. very good video.

By living in hot and salty humid 🥵 Mexico for over 20 years I see so many plastics and rubber products crumbles when stores in garage if not keeping cold with AC and rubber covering getting sticky etc make appreciate metal products of the old days !

Hi Alec. It is always interesting to see the progression of changes or new ideas that a company introduces. BTW on the second one (scuba air) that you showed there was a knob on the side of the first stage it didn't look like a reserve but you didn't mention what it is? maybe a minor adjustment of flow or pressure? The voit topic should be interesting too. take care Owen m

Vintage scuba is very interesting, It would be impressive to see 2 man submarine even today. Just curious how deep this would go. Thank you Alec for your time and dedication to vintage scuba. I am new subscriber for this kind of content

The add does not say how deep it goes but since it's still open scuba, 130' is my guess. It would be fun to show up at the beach with a sub in tow. A
@allankessler2380
Жыл бұрын
Hi, the submarine was made by COSMOS of Italy. They were rebranded and sold by Healthways in The US. In the rest of the world they were branded as COSMOS. I have one and my friends and I are currently restoring it to working order. Fortunately most of the parts are there. The original dashboard has a depth gauge that goes to 100. We believe this is in feet. So I suppose they weren't expecting anyone to go over that depth. The sub has 3 aluminium canisters, one for the batteries, one for the motor and one is just a float. There would be a depth at which they could be crushed. We don't know that depth. In fact most of the information available is what is contained in the Healthways catalogue.
😎👍🤿🇵🇭Amazing I wish I could sit down with you and hear and Learn about all the history you know about and see and hold in my hands the past scuba gear! 👍Thanks!

Thought about one of those submarines back in the day,but at $0.85 an hour it would of taken about 3 years to pay for it.

Watch my video S07E08 "What is your regulators name?". Fun reg names from long ago. A
Some of old diving technology is very interesting. Especially sonic reserve valve. This was not implemented with double hose. You have beautiful single stage regulators in your collection, solid brass and all chrome, just like a vintage car. Is it a good comparison you decide. Would be great to see wired double hoses you might have

@@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter Thank you for reply. I'm going to grab some drink and watch more vintage scuba videos from your channel. edit: I haven't seen any other vintage scuba youtube channels. You sir have some quality content !
Hi Alec, I have a question for you. My buddy uses a J-valve, and when its activated, inhaling causes the SPG needle to move a lot. When its in the off (reserve available) position the needle doesn't move at all. Is that normal for J-vlave?
@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
Жыл бұрын
Yes. That's quite normal. I think we did aa video about that. Kevin might be able to find it. Basically, what's happening is that an inhalation is depleting the high pressure air in the 1st stage for a few seconds. The SPG reads this and the needle drops. Once the 1st opens to let in more tank air, the HP goes back up as does the gauge. The SPG has a very tiny hole feeding the hose for safety (also covered in one of my videos) so the climb back up is delayed a bit. When in reserve position, the HP also has to overcome the reserve spring force so this whole process is exaggerated. When 'On Reserve', the reserve spring force doesn't exist so it is speeded up. It still happens but perhaps not enough to be noticed. Make sure his tank valve is fully on - NO QUARTER TURN BACK!!! I'm assuming his tank & valve is modern so a quarter turn is not needed and can actually be unsafe. Alec

What's the perfect diameter of rubber to make a Hawaiian sling spear?
@PROSTO4Tabal

2cm, depends on rubber density and your strength
@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter

There are so many good ones to buy, I don't remember the diameter as the slings vary by material, your strength and length of pole. A
