Vintage Postcards of Cobalt, Ontario

Vintage scenes of Cobalt, Ontario - "Ontario's Most Historic Town".
Silver was discovered in the area in the summer of 1903, during the construction of the Temiskaming & Northern Ontario Railway from North Bay to the communities of Haileybury and New Liskeard, north of Cobalt. Within a few years the area was one of the largest silver producing areas in the world.

As a child my mother spoke of Cobalt, sang the Song, imprinted the mystique of Cobalt into me. My Paternal Grandfather owned a hotel in Haileybury until 1911 and sold it to open up Iroquois Falls. His brother was a fire chief in Cobalt. My mother made friends easily and enjoyed exploring the many cultures in Cobalt through her friends. Father Korman admonished her when she was reported to have been at a Greek Orthodox church for a funeral. Her reply to his comment was " Oh is that a different Jesus?". He could only give in.

I enjoyed this video, thank you. If I may inquire, what is your connection to Cobalt? I am the new chair of the Cobalt Historical Society and am always interested in finding connections to the great ol' town.
