The Roller Coaster was the Best. I would get off and get right back on. Every year I would watch the Fireworks on the 4th of July there. It was a Magical place to visit.

I grew up in the 1950s and have so many fond memories of the amusements at Meyers Lake and of the dances at the ballroom during my high school years. Also remember being a little girl and being afraid of that laughing fat lady.

I remember going there when I was a kid back in the 60's. The old wooden rollercoaster had a sign that said, Ride At Your Own Risk. The rest of it was pretty much kiddie rides.

I wish I could have seen it in it’s heyday. I’m glad they saved the carousel from ruin. The Stardust Ballroom was magnificent. If you closed your eyes you could feel the history.

Such a pity places like this don’t last. Makes me wonder how much have we progressed?

Never known a small lake that did not drown at least one person each summer. Thinking of Chautauqua Lake. As someone said, it is generally someone not following the rules. As a kid, it was usually a water skier, being macho, and not wearing a life jacket. In my later years in California, the local Sheriff told me the vast majority of drowning victims have their pants off. Or around their ankles. Yes, peeing off the side of their fishing boat...and fall in. And the tied ankles prevent them from swimming. OK, sorry for the mention. But thank you for the nostalgia. Those amusement parks, at every lake, are what DID make America great. Super great. Wonderful times. I can smell the cotton candy now. And hear the bumper cars. Sigh.

Such a shame what happened to it. After the rides were all closed the lake had a fishing area and held fishing tournaments. I remember fishing there when I was a kid and renting a peddle boat. I went back a few years ago, and the whole place is gentrified, no outsider fishing allowed all expensive housing no non residents allowed. It has totally lost the spirit it had of everyone welcome if you can pay admission. All fishing in Ohio has gone down hill, so many dams decommissioned, and lakes privatized it is a sad state..
