Vintage PBA Trash Talk | Chris Barnes vs. Brad Angelo | 2010 PBA Marathon Open
Спорт
In the second match of the 2010 PBA Marathon Open telecast, Brad Angelo rolls a Brooklyn strike in the sixth frame and hoists his arms in celebration. Opponent Chris Barnes doesn't take kindly to it. Commentators Rob Stone and Randy Pedersen add to the debate.
After defeating Barnes, Angelo went on to lose to Pete Weber, who then secured his 35th career PBA Tour title (and first in three years) by defeating Mike Scroggins in the championship match. The Scroggins loss also meant Walter Ray Williams Jr. clinched the 2010 PBA Player of the Year award for a record seventh time.

For Angelo's 11th and 12th shots I was soooo hoping he would intentionally throw Brooklyn just to troll Barnes a little bit more. 😂

Barnes has had a lot of trash talked to him. I'd say its partly because he is really good. And partly because he is very pre-emptive with his own trash talk. Chris is really good at that too...

The frst shot from Barnes, look how fast the machine comes down, not even the rake is down before the deck is coming down to check for pins. That should be an issue in a tournament. There is supposed to be a slight delay.

A Brooklyn strike is no different as a baseball player hitting a weak ground ball or slow pop up over the head of infielders for a single. Then they hit a 105 MPH line drive for an out. Sometimes you nail the pocket and leave a stone 8 or ringing 10. These are things what makes sports great and worth watching.

I think a better analogy is hitting a frame shot in tennis that ends up being a winner, or hitting a drive in golf that bounces off a tree and ends up in the fairway - a Brooklyn in bowling is a rewarded error, whereas a bloop isn't really a "mistake" in the same way

Let me put it into football speak for you, since you seem to not get it. A Brooklyn strike in professional bowling is the equivalent to a player fumbling after a catch, the lineman coming downfield, scooping the ball, and proceeding to run it 60 yards to the end zone to end the game.

Mate, I'm from the UK and I didn't get it either. I had to Google why it's bad and it's because the ball hits the 1 and 2 pins instead of the 1 and 3 (from a right handed player). Instead of ploughing through and getting the strike (as intended) it misses the 3 and the pins bounce around and make a lucky strike. I know that's not too clear but I'm sure another arrogant yank will soon correct me.
@jessejackson109

Reason is, if you threw the ball and it goes Brooklyn that means you threw a bad shot. These guys throw great shots and get screwed over all the time. Seeing a bad shot give good results is just frustrating. It’s like a Hail Mary 3 pointer at the end of the shot clock that goes off the backboard

The game today is a joke
If getting a brooklyn and not being visibly disappointed, maybe even showing excitement over it, could get into your opponents head means that defense in bowling is a thing and I'm all for it. Deep down I'd know it's not a good shot and that I got a lucky break but it's a part of the game that we live with so, yea. The scoreboard has no idea.
Angelo is like a grown child. What a jerk!
The broadcaster baited Barnes into making a stupid comment live against his opponent...Angelo got fired up like any pro would have...because the Brooklyn strike was nothing except a guy celebrating a good break, which they all have done before on TV...Petersen tried to make something out of nothing and Barnes mouth got him in trouble here.
10 pins down is 10 pins down. Chris should have let it go
Sorry, good people, this is no belmo vs. diaper rash.
Bowlers have so little to complain about they get irked at a Brooklyn. Absurd🤣
@Shlankyman545

It’s hilarious how a Brooklyn gets treated like you did some black magic to get a strike as if no one has thrown a Brooklyn ever before. Competition or not, a strike is a strike. It has to hit the pocket just right, the ball needs the perfect oomph on it, and the pins need to give you the right action. How many times have we seen a perfect ball roll into the pocket and leave a 7 or 10 pin up?
I like Brad, he says what’s on his mind…I think he said once that it was because he had a vowel at the end of his name and he had to live up to his Italian heritage…. but at this level you should be above any type of background noise distracting you barring somebody yelling when you’re throwing your shot
I've only started watching Bowling it's weird seeing the players answer questions from the commentators live during the match, must be the only sport that does this?
