Vintage Mego Mister Fantastic & Human Torch repair - Toy Polloi
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I've received in various donations parts of these two Fantastic Four figures, Mister Fantastic and the Human Torch. Both needed some repairs to get them in a displayable state. And Mr Fantastic had one of the dirtiest heads I have ever seen!

Your videos are an amazing way to reduce stress and anxiety. I have also learned a ton about toy repair and materials to use. Thank you, you don't know how much your videos have helped in 2020

Thanks Alex, glad they have helped. Fixing toys is always very relaxing for me as well.
I don't know how I missed seeing this video for so long? The end result for Mr. Fantistic is stunning! These were loft finds when clearing our Mum's attic. My brother got all the MOTU stuff. Keep up the good work.

Very entertaining as usual. Thank you!♡
Love the new opening and the FF megos!!!! Top notch!!!!

@@Tim-57 never thought of it as the washing song but that's a good name for it!
I hope one day to see a Toy Polloi video on how to re-stink Stinkor. That would make my life complete lol.
For the stains on the costume, I would try some baking soda with a little bit of Dawn dish soap. Add a little bit of water to it till it begins to form a foamy paste. Then brush on with a toothbrush and let it dry. The dawn will break up any greasy residue and the baking soda will draw it out as it dries. Then wash the outfit with a mild detergent.
I had The Thing and Human Torch back in the 70's.

Me Too!! I could never find Mr. Fantastic and the invisible woman though
it's much nicer now that you put the split screen and show how the toy looked before and how it looks now...
Great ! As usual...:)
Human torch is basically wearing a flaming onesie.
It's great to watch you complete action figures like this! Sewing uniforms can really make the difference on these old Mego figures. A little soap and water does wonders! Personally, I never liked the pajamas thing that Mego did with the Human Torch, the Thing, Tarzan and so many other figures. In the case of the Human Torch, ever kid knew his clothes were a cop out to save the toy company money. Even back when we were wee lads. Same with the Thing. They were eye rollers. At least Mr Fantastic's gloves are a lot better than the Batman and Robin crab-claw oven mitt gloves that every kid took off, and usually threw away. You know though, back then, we all felt lucky to get superhero figures at all. Comics and superheroes weren't the commonplace affair that they are today. The Human Torch actually looks better without the fire pajamas. I think painting flames on the body to match the head would look a lot better. If I had one, I'd do that for sure. Being an artist, that wouldn't be a problem for me. to match the head flame shapes, etc. In the case of the Thing, I'd have to just live with that one. With Tarzan, I'd just remove the flesh pajamas, which were obviously added to keep parents from freaking out about "naked" figures in the '70s.
Ultrasonic cleaners are brilliant at removing dirt from old toys

I do have one, and have shown it in past videos. But I like to clean toys by hand as it gives you a chance to fully check them over, and is also quite relaxing to do. Cheers
nice job as always Dave, I had no idea the forearms were the same and not right left
@toypolloi

It's easy to forget as they don't look like they are. And on a figure like this were you don't often have a spare arm in red, it's very useful that they are the same.
Wow. Every time I am watching the repair of these figures it reminds me to my very loved BIg Jim and Big Josh figures of the 70s. Wow, I wish I could look st them nowadays . Keep up the good work. Stay safe. Stay healthy.
Thanks Dave, excellent video. What a transformation, looks brilliant. You're sewing skill have improved markedly. Thanks Ant 👍
Love your vids!
Most interesting we must find the Battlestar Galactica!
Very nice job on the Mego figures. They turned out very cool. U do great work, keep it up!!!

You can really make things look so nice! Cheers
I had no idea either of these existed. The human torch is really a wonderful 1970s mego gem. 2 more wonderful figures saved. And a wonderful donation.
normally restoration videos with music are awful to watch but somehow you make it work (could be the sparse use of the music and it not being obnoxious music) Love the videos overall they are a delight to watch

Thanks. I think :D The music is needed sometimes, otherwise people moan I talk to much. And really it's about the toys, not me or the music.

I think a lot of people skip through my videos 😃 That's just how KZread works. As long as you learn something, that's what matters.
Mr Fantastic's collar was looking a bit ruff! (Pun intended 😃) seriously though great job Dave 👍
Another very enjoyable restoration. Have you done any restoration videos on the Mego Batcycle and Batmobile? I've had a quick look, but couldn't see any.

Thanks. I've not got any of the vehicles, just the figures.
😂 it looks like someone tourtured Mr Fantastic 😂
Never had a Human Torch. Best I could do was Aquaman in a Mister Fantastic outfit being Johnny Storm. And maybe if memory serves some type of cheap plastic flame? So I think this is the 1st time i realized his body was all red. That's cool and all, but seems a shame to be hidden out of sight. Even my 1st impulse of Vision, would also be wasting the red body under green and yellow clothes. Now my noggin is swimming with searching for any red-skinned characters that had their skin showing. Probably woukd've just swapped head onto any other body and uses the red one by slapping Captain Marvel's yellow boots on, some yellow paint around wrists and waist, stuck a Flash logo on, painted up a Cap head and had it be Flash; with Aquaman head could be Barry cowl down. Thanks, that was fun.
Looks like Mr fantastic got caught in lab explosion 💥
I onky had the Thing and the Human Torch as a kid. I always wanted a Mr Fantastic and Invisible Girl to finish the team off. Jealous now! The Mego commercial always makes me laugh on KZread. In it they advertise the FF and they list Mister Fantastic and Invisible Girl as both having the power of Invisibility!! Shows how much research the ad agency did! LOL. I wish I could stitch as neatly as you do! He looked great. Are you going to replace the Collar when you get slightly wider black ribbon?

I guess they gave them the same power as they didn't want kids stretching Mr Fantastic and breaking him. But they could have easily thought up something different.

@@toypolloi Well he was supposed to be the greatest scientist in the world as well. But they could have done a Toy Story style thing like Buzz Light Year. "Not a Stretching toy!" lol
Why didn't you use a clothes iron on low heat to try to keep the collar down?
Mr fantastic fell into bird poop, head first.
It's a shame Mr Fantastic isn't stretchable as his character suggests.
I’m having trouble navigating through teespring, do you sale “now you know” t-shirt in kid sizes? 5 yr old to give an idea, my son loves your videos so much.

I've got a question. I've got a Vintage 12" Boba Fett which has badly discoloured. What should I do to improve this?
@toypolloi

You can de yellow most plastic, but some colours don't turn out great. The grey should be fine, not sure on the green. I have videos on de-yellowing. Cheers
Could the collar be ironed flat?
@toypolloi

If you were careful, yes. But you need to avoid the '4' emblem as this is made of plastic.
Megos are cool but so brittle now.
that torch looks terrible. i would recommend paint flame patterns
Try a stain Remover With Oxy Powder And rub it in. Let it set according to the. Direction and then wash the Outfit s
