New Fur for a vintage MOTU Grizzlor - Toy Polloi
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Poor old Grizzlors fur can end up in quite a sorry state. He is not that great at grooming and Skeletor and Hordak hate to brush him down. Today I get to grips with replacing the worn fur on a vintage Masters of the Universe Grizzlor figure and making a pattern so you can do it to.

You could always repaint a Beast man figure brown and call him Sasquatch.
Always wondered what he looked like under the fur, not what I expected!
I quite like the shorter fur version. He looks like a different member of Grizzlor's tribe. Maybe you could make a bunch with different fur colours and having a whole army of fuzzy dudes.

The shorter fur would be great for making a "Dark Grizzlor." I got the Dark Grizzlor variant when I was a kid, and didn't give it a second thought, until I saw other kids' Grizzlors were lighter and had WAY more fur. There will now follow a long list of tirades from Army-Building "Investors" complaining about how this will devalue their special hoard of Dark Grizzlors they've been accumulating over the last few decades so they can buy a mansion. 🤣
Oh what a great video. I, for some really stupid reason, took my vintage Grizzlor's fur off and lost it many years ago and he's been bald ever since. Now I know how to fix it thanks to you, so thanks for doing this!

Poor Grizzlor!
I've done a bit of pattern matching for toys before and I'm impressed! A couple of tips about the fur tho: The length of the fur is called the pile and if you happen to get one a bit too long, you can trim it to size. Also when cutting it, best way to go about it is use an Xacto knife to minimize those little furry bits and lessen accidentally trimming the fur itself. Glad to see Grizzlor get a new pelt tho! EDIT: I made this comment before watching the whole thing, so I almost missed the second attempt with the longer fur. I think both look great, I kinda prefer the more defined proportions as opposed to the furry potato shape of the original. Again, well done!

Thanks for the tips.
It is very satisfying watching you make patterns and decals with that program!
Dave... you are a brave man by tackling these issues! You are my customizing/restoration hero!
Poor Grizzlor is happy again. Looking handsome! 😃❤
New Grizzlor after a run to the beauty parlor. You sir however amaze me with your restoration skills. You have inspired my current passion to restore Gi Joe ARAH figures that I add to my collection. 👍
That is indeed an excellent reproduction! A tip from vintage plush animal cleaning: nothing's going to fix the burnt fur, but for original Grizzlors that are just kind of matty from age or just been hand-washed? Get a small dog/cat brush with thin, wire bristles. Brush with the fur's grain with short, lift-away strokes, just to smooth it, then just muss it up gently with your fingertips. Do not use a hair dryer on this fur, nor put any toy with it in a clothes dryer, or it'll melt itself into a kinked-up wad. The wad can be brushed out again, with patience, but it will never be original again. Best to air dry and brush later. And of course, don't use the brush on your pets, once it's been used on toys.

Thanks for the tips. I will give those a try.
Fantastic results, playing around with various furs (colour and length) would work really well for army building as to me, each length of fur seems to affect the appearance of his age and size. The original figure looks like a large, dominant Grizzlor, while the curly fur has an adolescent look. A great way to add variety to the character.
you did a great job fixing the old fright zone toy great job all round may the force be with you always
I don't understand why I took a break from watching your videos, they are soo good and just make me smile both on the inside and outside =) So thank you for still being here =)

Oh snap! You could give grizzlor any color of fur you wanted!!!
You are right , I also prefer your final version. It looks more natural. And better than the original.
Oh my god, now I want a leopard Grizzlor!

i freakin LOVE the ToyPolloi kraftwerk-esque background busywork music 🤘😆
Nice result. Way better than burned fur. He reminds me of the Origins one.
Amazing! Your ability to break down outfits and devise sewing patterns from originals always impresses me. And I agree that your newly furred Grizzlor looks a bit more screen-accurate! I do wonder if it's possible to run a comb through that fur and kind of "tease" it up to be a bit spikier, if you wanted a more toy-original look? But I don't think it's necessary-I prefer your version.

Thanks. A come may help, although I imagine it's not that easy to get through the fur. The end results are good enough for me.
It's really interesting as I was not expecting the body to be so unique. I imagined it would be a standard He-Man body as you mentioned.
What an amazing transformation. That's what I love about your videos though - you manage to salvage something in ways that I wouldn't have even imagined. Anyone else think the prototype pelt whilst inside out looked like an Ewok? 😁

Outstanding and incredibly helpful video! Thank you! Funnily enough, the MOTU Classics Grizzlor's fur sleeve is done with the seam between his legs, as you had initially suspected. And yeah, I've used fake fur for some of my customs, and it does indeed go EVERYWHERE.
Really a great job! The repaired Grizzlor looks better than the original, especially around the head!
I dig the replacement fur coat, so rugged ❤ Prototype # 1
This is great! I bet you could make a fur hoodie like this for the GIJOE enemy the Intruders!
I was extremely curious about this one. I was shocked the fue wasn’t glued down in any way. Definitely made for a much easier job and the results were magnificent. Cheers!

Goodwill stuffed animals are my go to for small amounts of fur and fabric.
The torso looks like an early design for one of the Multibot bodies.

I've always wanted to see a curly grizlore
That first fur Grizzlor got a perm at the Snake Mt. Beauty Salon but it got all frizzed out back at his cave.
THe new fur looks a little like Grizzlor fell asleep on the couch and little girl Grizzlor went to work with the curling iron ^^
Honestly, looks better than the original!
Amazing work! Well done!
16:03 who can forget the holiday classic?
Someone recommended this channel to me for the restoration of a Grizzlor, but mines a lil bit more worse for wear than this 😂 My sister unearthed my childhood Grizzlor who’d apparently been buried in the yard for almost 40 years

@@toypolloi Will do! I just need to get it from my sisters so I can get his from all angles. He is going to need a new face though 😂 I now know the mystery of what’s behind his face between the face and the peg for the head.
Quite an interesting design. Thanks Dave.
When you peeled him my first thought was he was overdesigned, but when you consider what kids are like and how many still have fur it's a brilliant self grasping anchor design since there's no glue involved. It's hard to find good fur cloth and difficult to sew, my Mum made me an Ewok costume for Halloween as a kid that was challenging. I loved Wicket and wore it off season for bit before putting it away. Actually got one more round out lending it to a friend again on Halloween as it no longer fit at that point lol. "Yub, nub." ;)

Army building time for some black & tan Dark Beast Grizzlors!!!
Man, the curly fur version is better than original!!!! I think army building is on my horizon! Elder grizzlor, hippy grizzlor, etc etc 😂
I love that you showed your first attempt with the curly fur before showing the final product. I think your final product with the slightly shorter fur looks better than the original; and I agree with your assessment that the original has too much fur. Well done as always Dave!
Nice!

nice, grizzlor was the only figure i had out of the whole franchise;))
You could try to wash it with Balsam and brush out the curls.
Awesome as always!
One thing worth noting, take into consideration that the longer hair doesn't get cut along as you do cuts to the material supporting it. The longer the hair, the more care this will require. (And I also kinda like how it looks with shorter hair)

Thanks. I tried to move the fur to one side as I cut, same when I sewed it so it didn't get trapped. It's not easy to deal with for sure.

@@toypolloi my cousin made a suit for a person (when he was a design student, like 20 years ago) made out of a material similar to this but bright red and longer hair. Well, I remember he would comb the hair and cut using an xacto knife (hobby knife? Scalpel like cutter?) from the part where the hair was. Maybe this tip is of help. Thanks for your videos ✨
BTW, I have 3d printed custom heads and shoulders of Filmation Grizzlor on Mossman's painted body with Grizzlors arm's and legs. It looks pretty sweet.
Nice job! I was expecting Grizzlor to have the normal muscled torso like most of the other figures in the MOTU lines. He's very flat-chested for a hairy brute. 🤣His hairless head and face reminds me of a '60s THE OUTER LIMITS alien ("FUN AND GAMES").

I think when you wrapping fur on head, you should first do back and then front. That way it might push/hold back fur and it will hide end of the back fur on his chest. I think.

I'd love to make some custom colours versions of him. He doesn't always need to be malt brown.
Thank you for the video. I followed your discribtion and get new fur for my partly bald Grizzlor. I used much longer fur. (50 mm) After dressing I have to be the hairdresser!😂 br M.
i have 2 vintage grizzlors. next one i find i will customise with fur in different colour!
Nice haircut ,Grizzy!!!!
I don't know the He-man lore enough to care if it offends it but the finished product looks different enough to be his own character Graulor or something :D. In a good way, good way to boost the display like many others have commented, just variations of the fur and different chest armor or accessories and voilà.
The 2nd fur you used is much better. I would use the Grizzlor you fixed as a troop builder of sorts. He could be an underling of the Grizzlor with his original fur.
Amazing 👊

Loved ir. ❤ Ir you i can make a suggestion, use a pet brush , and brush the fur, maybe its Will help😊
I will definitely be making an actual grizzled gray tone custom Grizzlor using this. well, someday I will
Think I also prefer the re-do, and yes more toon accurate by far (where he was overall shorter-haired & better 'groomed' shall we say?😁) Was never a huge fan of the massive Trolls-style barnet he had as a toy. 😄Good job!
I just seen one of these figures on card 80"s version not the remake,,for $200 on ebay,,,tempted I am,,😮there's a dark face version as well,,,
I also prefer the one you made. The original looks like a furtato. 😆
amazing deconstruction! A tip for cutting furry fabric that I'm sure other people have mentioned; turn it over to the fabric (not fur) side and gently cut through it with a razor instead of using scissors! you won't slice through all the furry fibers!

Hey Dave Well done, he looks great. Perhaps make some mini figures from the extra fur...something like the little white fuzzy guy from Star Wars you recently showed. Happy weekend to you and MrsTP. Take care
Super Grizzlor restoration, by Dave for Toy Polloi! The original Grizzlor actually looks like he needs a haircut, when placed beside the restored Grizzlor! :)
This fix might be usefull as well for the Origins version of Grizzlor at some point, because people are already complaining about hair loss on the new version. I still have to wait until Mattel will send me the made to order one.

If you work with fur what you want to do is carefully cut the nap with a razor so you don't damage the fur itself
What's it got in its pocket, precious... what's it got?? Oh. Weird flat body... (This was great! I think your finished version actually looks close to the new Origins one.)

Is Grizzlor's face a seperate part that is glued on? Cause that may explain how it was originally put on they got the fur on and then pinned it in place with the head.

I imagine it was glued on last. That would make most sense. It's glued in well and I don't think would be easy to remove. So I just worked around what was there.
I hear a new Christmas song coming up
Just thinking, if you had a. Small cat under fur brush, you may be able to tease the curl out of the first lot of fur? Excellent job !
