I can remember seeing the Muhammad Ali boxing ring set up in the window of my local toy shop and Dad telling me that Father Christmas would be bringing me one that year. Loved it
Christmas 1976….I remember it well! I was 5. I got the Them Bones game, which came with a glow in the dark skull that stuck around our house long after we had lost all the pieces. I just remember that being really cool.
I had the Muhammad Ali doll when I was very young. Maybe 3 or 4. My father (a huge boxing fan) bought it for me and I was very excited. Very fond memories of the day I received it. But my favorites will always be the Comic Action Heroes/Pocket Heroes lines. I played with my Batman figure from that line until the paint wore off it.

Brilliant Part Two, absolutely loved that Fortress of Solitude playset and the exploding bridge with Batmobile. I never had either in real-life, but after watching this I can only wish I had been fortunate enough to own both! Superbly detailed and with a lot of attention to production standards, we won't see their like ever again I fear. Just fabulous to watch, many thanks.

thank you for saying that!
Love the look of the painted Comic Action Heroes prototypes in there. It's a line I'm going to have to get moving on someday. Had a lot of them as a kid but only Batman, Robin and the Hulk now.
That Our Gang set is lovely. I agree with you, If I had been around back then, I would've love to have them.

I didn't even know that the Our Gang line had existed until years later when the figures were used by Toyfare Magazine for their Twisted Toyfare Theater strips. As it is, I own them now, and they're really beautifully done. You can tell that a lot of love went into the line.
Mego may have been the last company till Lego to produce compatible Marvel/DC heroes in the same line. I either had a blind spot for the 3.75 capes or just never saw them as a kid. Trying to catch up now.
3:47 - Love the Hall of Justice meeting table in the Fortress of Solitude playset !!!!!

wow.
LOVING these Mego catalog videos so much! Thank you for talking about Cher... it really was one of Mego's biggest successes. It was also a pretty major achievement in the toy industry as many companies tried to get a share of the fashion doll market by competing with Barbie over the decades and many ultimately failed, but Mego was one of the very few who actually managed to succeed, if only for a short time, actually outselling Barbie in 1976 with their Cher line, which I think didn't happen again until decades later with MGA and their Bratz dolls. (Your video inspired me to finally get one as a collector!... Just bought that dressing room playset, too. Do you know that they actually repackaged it without changing it at all for Farrah a year or so later? The only thing they changed was the box it came in! LOL)

I love the WGSH line. I am always looking to add loose figures to my small collection and information on Mego. I love these Mego retrospective videos you put out Brian.

I. Bests memories of Mego was the Superheroes. My parents bought me the first closed box wave. Then the first STAR TREK wave. I had them until I left for college.

Mego has been great ever since i was a kid. I just picked up a badass Creature from the Black Lagoon from Meijer for $12.99. 🙌
Oh my FREAKING Gosh! Brian you've GOT to send me that photo of the "Super Smelling Pretty Colored Finger Paints That Turn To Bubble Bath". I BEGGED for this when I was a kid and got it for my 8th or 9th birthday. I've been looking for a photo forEVER and I could never find it. I had forgotten it was done by Mego!! PLEASE send it to me! I'll be your best friend!
i knew nothing about the Our Gang dolls until a toy show a few years ago...and i wish i could have them, but ...not enough money and room for them.
The slide show music reminds me of that music Kmart had playing back in the day while shopping.
I wonder if anyone on the custom front put a Little Rascals/Our Gang Mickey head on an 8" body and did a Baretta figure?
@RogueTwo

You know, I've always wondered if the decision to include Mickey in the toy line was in hopes it would win Robert Blake over to sign off on a Beretta action figure. Otherwise he's a little out of place. A very late edition to the Gang during the MGM years, he was brought in to replace an aging Porky, and stuck around to the end.

@@RogueTwo It's a considered hypothesis, especially with the Kojak and Starsky and Hutch action figures. My granny thought he was all that. If he was doing one of the late night shows, Snyder or Carson, everything STOPPED.
Owned Comic Action Heroes Spider-Man as a kid, last saw him in one of my grandfather's sheds. Managed to buy a loose mint one off eBay.
Thanks for sharing!🙏🙏
4:23 Was watching Robot Chicken and assumed a mostly Barbie based solution for shorter puppets because I couldn't find shorter Mego figures but I think Our Gang was another foundation basis since the proportion looks close to what I see often. Funny I was just looking at the Ali reissue since I seem to be more into the real person Mego figures like TV show characters like Fonzie. Can't say Cher has ever appealed to me much personally but I can see how that would be popular, she was always a fashionista so there would be a lot of interesting clothing sets. Not even that much of a Farrah fan but the sculpt head quality is excellent, looks a lot like her.
I was a Mego kid . I always wanted 8" figures of normal human beings for my Superheroes to save . So any Mego like Starsky and Hutch that were normal in presentation got snatched off the peg as soon as I had enough scratch .

The Imaginext toyline is a nice tribute to those Fisher Price toys and they even have some releases that mimic the classic figures, like X-Ray Man.
I can't believe how much they invested in Cher? That's awesome. It's like they were trying to get into the Barbie mkt?

I received World's Greatest Superheroes Batman and Superman, and later Spider-man. Loved Spider-man, got the Spider-car, but switched to Comic Action Heroes due to scale and affordability. The first action figure I went up to the counter and paid for myself, around age 7, was the CAH Aquaman, and got many of the hero characters one by one after that start. Generally the legs broke at the hip pretty soon. Have used eBay to reacquire, at some expense, various things from the CAH line. I've now got the Batman bridge with unactivating/ever activated activator. So disappointing.
In like them all and have most of them
Waiting for 1976 Kong stuff.🤞

I used to love Comic Action Heroes, I got every one I could find and must have had almost if not all the UK releases! I couldn't afford the only playset I ever saw: the Batman Exploding Bridge set. Pity, but there you go. I really didn't like them when they re-released them as the Pocket Superheroes, the straight legs just looked awkward and wrong coupled with the bent arms. I've still got the Batmobile and the Batman figure, all I've got to show from that line I'm afraid, I'd like to get some now, but the cost..! 😱🤣👍
My mom still has my adventure people stuff.

mine too!
So Big Jim is mostly famous in Australia and Europe mainly? GI Joe & S.M.D.M. were more popular in North America. The superhero figures no.1 for me, followed by Star Trek, not Mego but a S.M.D.M. doll is pretty cool for me too.
'76? I think that was around the time DC's jumbo sized Mohammad Ali vs Superman. I wonder if the Ali figure had been same size as one of the Mego Supermans (Supermen?) if it would've been more popular?
