Modern lifeboats, at least on cargo ships, work as the design demonstrated. Completely enclosed and on an upper deck, the crew climbs in, closes the hatch, and it shoots down a steep ramp and flies into the water below. Faster and more accessible than old style open boats, and they contain everything the crew needs for days at sea, including satellite emergency communications gear.
@cojones8518
5 жыл бұрын
If I'm not mistaken they did use that guys design for lifeboats. It really only became popular when oil companies started building offshore rigs and needed a lifeboat that could launch from their high platforms and keep the crew safe if there was burning oil on the water or in cold waters like the North Atlantic.

@@gavinjames8749 I watched a documentary from the 60's about future predictions of the year 2000. One of the problems they highlighted was that apartment complexes did not give much privacy to the people living in it since the only thing separating where you lived with where other's loved was a thin wall, a ceiling and a floor. They would have freaked out if they saw how easily a smartphone can steal your private info without you ever knowing it.

Just shows how OLD some "new" current inventions really are
"Inventions that never caught on. They lived more in the future than we do in 2021."
I'm 53 yo and I used to watch this series on PBS... Very interesting.
3:35 that's a future innovation invention.
Some of these are actually genus because we can actually do them today

I saw the lattice mono wheel on TV's omnibus in early 50's I was 2 years old yet I remember the narrator's funny comment "I wonder how many waffles it makes per mile" as it went down the strand! I would need a very long beard cap to go swimming. It would be a flotation device instead, no need for the torpedo lifeboat.
Some of these I wish were still in service! They actually look smart.
I like the idea of motorized roller skates. That was pretty cool.
Graças a essas invenções temos as nossas coisas hoje. Bons tempos, Belo povo e bela música. Nasci na época errada
This is such an awesome video:) thank you!
The roller Blade one 🔥 your invent gonna take by generations sir
All around fun show. Thanx.
@cojones8518

If I'm not mistaken they did use that guys design for lifeboats. It really only became popular when oil companies started building offshore rigs and needed a lifeboat that could launch from their high platforms and keep the crew safe if there was burning oil on the water or in cold waters like the North Atlantic.
Amazing how many of these inventions are still around and commercialy available.

They created such devices because they have seen them before, time travelling
That guy in the first 31 seconds in the lifeboat almost made me piss on myself
I like the one where the guy is using the exhaust of the car to jack up the car to change the flat.
Remember this video from a movie called "GIZMO" and it showed all kinds of things and the people that tried to make a better mousetrap, or had ways of doing things differently. Was a great film showing some of the ways peoples talent and ingenuity could make things better or not.
