1:10 as I understand it, it's more complex than just "grabbing the code". For modern cars, each code can only be used once so grabbing the code that was used to open the car is useless. You also have to jam the signals so that the car doesn't get it (which means that the grabber must have a better sensitivity than the car since the signal is jammed for everyone). But that is not enough because for any smart system, the keys are not just unique, they must also be send in increasing rank order so that if the car never received the key #5 that you grabbed but received the key #6, it won't accept key #5 anymore.

@@sarahhomrighausen7349 It depends. If you know the algorithm, you can more easily search for vulnerabilities. But if the algorithm is well made, mathematically strong and relatively simple (and these can be simple), there won't be any strong and easy to find vulnerabilities. You might still need to have the private encryption key for the specific car you want to open. But yeah, the more info you have, the more attacks you can devise and I would guess that car manufacturers might not be as up into the cryptographic security yet as money transfer companies.

@@chuckholmes2075 Yes, though most manufacturers use fairly insecure crypto, based around a low entropy pseudorandom number generator with a pre-programmed shared key pair between FOB and vehicle. It becomes possible to reverse engineer the private keys from a sample of harvested remote starts and inject new valid codes from there. Mitigation strategies have been identified, but I'd bet many vehicles on the market today are still vulnerable. Nothing new, to be clear - there was a talk at black hat from several years back. Pretty sure its still posted on YT somewhere if you're interested.

The FBI and homeland security emblems popped up on my computer with a message “you have been cited for viewing illegal content. You must pay a $200 penalty to unlock your computer “. Not that I would ever even consider anything like that but I had to think “wait a minute. I can watch all kinds of nastiness, pay $200 and all is forgiven??” 😂😂😂😂. No, there would be no warning. Nothing illegal about night vision goggles. Most states, it's also completely legal to record video from your person as long as you're in a public place where others have no expectation of privacy, and the camera itself is surely legal to possess. Similarly, a lock picking device is legal to possess -- like a knife or a gun, certain *uses* of such a device are crimes... But you completely failed to mention radar detectors (illegal in several states) and jammers (illegal everywhere in the USA).

Car key intercepters don't work on most modern vehicles because most modern vehicles use a system called "rolling codes". Basically your car is tied specifically to your key fob through a unique seed. When you lock your car it generates a unique code that is instantly blacked out in the cars system meaning that if someone intercepts your fobs code, that code already doesn't work anymore. Some older cars are still sceptable to this sort of attack but the list is extremely small.

@@brandonbp122 Rolling code became a popular car security measure in the 90s. That doesn't mean for sure that your car is sceptable to these sorts of attacks. You would have to check with the manufacturer to see what kind of security system your car has. Despite that these sorts of attacks primarily target vehicles that can be started from the fob and not the key aa most thieves do not want to take the time to attempt hotwiring a car or risk damaging a vehicle they're trying to steal.

I don't take issue with calling any of these devices illegal, as even if they are legal to own, their use in illegal activities is pretty easy to see. What I DO take issue with however is the claim that night time hunting can be a 24 hour a day job. This is clearly a lie 😂 Cool video though, I enjoyed it, snd the chance it gave me to be a pedantic pain!

In the 90's I had this really cool piece of tech. It was tubular shaped and about 8" long. It had a switch on the bottom that you could turn to different modes. It would vibrate harder and would change intensity with every mode. On the end it had a suction cup too so you could stick it to the wall or the floor. It was really cool. Not sure what it was called though.
