Creating a handmade custom DIY surreal art collage is easy! I share my tips and techniques on how I create my analog collages as I cut out pictures and illustrations out by hand with a small pair of scissors and a craft knife. Finding inspiration from old books is one of the most fun steps to this process. These can come from used books, encyclopedias, magazines, vintage postcards, or anything else you can find lying around your house. I find most of my books and magazines from thrift stores, antique stores, flea markets, Craigslist, or even on the side of the road! Watch as I arrange my elements and try different ideas as I talk through my process to create my final design.
Collages made out of paper have a custom made feel that you can't get from a digital collage made in Photoshop. And, there is an added challenge of only being able to use materials that you have access to!
Want to try creating your own? Just grab a magazine, scissors, and a glue stick!

Yay! Yeah, I am very happy with how that one turned out. Thanks!
I love your channel. I did like the background behind the cars. I thought the shadows showed movement of the car. I love how you talk through the process. Your voice is so calming.

Aww thank you SO much! I really appreciate that. I know, I liked the background a lot too, but ultimately decided against it. Now I can use it for something else!
I thoroughly enjoy your thought process!
I just found your channel, Rosie. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your work! Thank you so much.
Excellent. Excellent. Excellent.
It would be like a sunlight background I think backgrounds are always so nice, but there is so much tradition about cactii - no need

wait, a giant dog would be a really cool background, a la Three Amigos

Aww thank you so much!! I'm glad you enjoy them :)
I am glad that I found your channel Rosie -- I enjoy hearing you talk through your creative process. 2 questions: 1) when you removed all the pieces and got ready to glue them to the white paper, how did you remember where to place them? 2) if you post to IG, could you go through that process of taking photos and getting the correct lighting and size to feature the collage details, etc. Thanks,

Yay! I'm so glad you enjoyed it :) To answer your questions: 1. I take a photo with my phone and have that open next to me to reference where things were suppose to go and I also try to remove the pieces in a way where they are sort of near where they go (so keeping the leaves in order of how I placed them around the car). But, I try not to get hung up on making sure everything is exactly where I placed it in the dry fit. Sometimes things shift slightly and the result is just as good! 2. The easiest way to get the best photo of a collage is to use a scanner. I use a cheap Epson Perfection scanner that is perfect for me. Your phone can also take great pictures, but you have to battle the glare you get with overhead lights. I would suggest playing around with different locations around your house to find a place that could work. Near a window with natural light is always a good place to start!

Awesome 😎
Wow!! Love it.
Genius 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Love your work!!
I have to laugh - I JUST found three (smaller) old black and white cars that I cut out and I said to my husband, "Won't this look great flying in space?" - from a newbie (and I'm still going to do it), lol.
Save money, save the planet.
I'm new here and I'm already in love with this channel! Very cool collages!!! 🥳
I had so much fun watching you

I was really interested in your octopus pictures, but that armadillo looks pretty strange, as well.

I have a wacky sense of humor. Animals are so Real 🤪
Armadillo = "Armored Car"
How do you sharpen tools? Or do you change blades? Does the mat affect the tools?

I change my blades every couple of weeks. I try to use scissors as much as possible because they don't dull! You have to use a cutting mat with an xacto knife or you will dull your blades very quickly and scratch up the surface you're cutting on.
