Vintage 1983 National MC-301F Footstool Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner

Here we have a nice lil' footstool vac from Japan.

This was the only vacuum cleaner my late cat used to like. He used to sleep on it bless him. I'm pretty sure my current cat would like it too and she'll sleep on anything!
Here's another example of the incredible ingenuity of the Japanese designers. The Japanese people live in very tiny (relative to us in Europe anyway) flats / houses and everything needs to be super compact. This drives the necessity to have everything housed away neatly with the vacuum cleaner so the whole machine is easy to store.
I have seen this machine in various colours - Red, green, yellow and blue. So consumers certainly had a nice choice when matching their cleaner with the scheme of their house!
Hitachi did the same thing in the early 80s with their Stowaway machine and you'll see an example of their miniaturisation on the channel if you do a quick search. Whilst Hitachi chose to store the tools UNDER their cleaner, National Panasonic went the other way and put the tools in the lid of this cleaner. I don't personally feel like either way is preferable, both are easy and simple to use and quick to unpack.

I have 2 at home but they come with metal wands
I have one, and it is still in use. However it doesn't have as much suction as it used to, and needs a replacement filter assembly. It is one of the early bagless vacuums, but cleaning the filter is very difficult and tedious. It has taught me to stay with bag vacuums! However, apart from that it has worked well. If anyone knows how to get spare parts for it, like a new filter assembly, I would be grateful for the info.

It can be use as a blower, but I don't remember now, kindly someone suggest me for a part for the is also available in this box.
Thank you for the video. I have the orange one, my mother bought it in 1985. But i still do not know how to toggle the suction function to blowing function.. Anyone could help me? Thanks in advance..

In the removable lid where the attachments are stored, there is a rectangular adapter that is attached to the grill where the air comes out and then a hose is attached to it.
Is it water resistant?
