Vincita Big Nash Rack Bag

The Big Nash, winner of a 2023 Taipei Cycle Design and Innovation Award, is almost double the size of the original Nash bag, but is it better? That's what we will investigate in this video.

    @@2Bikes4Adventure Not sure as yet. Could you recommend something? I have had my Brompton for a year, but my husband only one year. He had a stroke two years back and a little wobbly at present. So looking for somewhere quite safe, away from the main roads, as much as possible. Netherlands maybe? (As bike friendly) I think I have just about watched all your videos. However, I will go back through them to refresh my memory on where you have been. Thanks again. Great channel!

    @vanessajones9455 The first one that comes to mind is South Korea’s 4 Rivers trail, likely the best long distance (700km) bike path infrastructure we ever cycled ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/dW2Ot9mmkbiWorA.html ). Last time we cycled in Netherlands was about 30 years ago. The bike infrastructure is excellent, as can be expected. It is also easier to get served in English than in South Korea. Strong winds should not be ignored however (no wonder windmills are a national symbol). The Avenue Verte from Paris to London (or vice versa) is easy and it comes with 2 destinations that are very interesting, a bonus if you never visited them before. ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/g2ajt9lxd8SXYsY.html ) France offers numerous nice trails. Easy to find accommodations and great food. The Velodyssée is excellent (almost completely on dedicated bike paths). kzread.info/dash/bejne/pp9_2ZOGoa6wpto.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/q62OsquymdGTf8o.html The Loire Valley is very scenic (a lot of castles). It is not always on dedicated paths however.

    Most high capacity rear rack solutions are DIY hacks (ex.: Brompton Traveler, PathLessPedaled). There is room (pun intended) for manufacturers to come up with innovative solutions leveraging the unusual Brompton rear-end aspect ratio.

    I recently got a blue one of the big nash. I do love the capacity although I’m slightly puzzled about the ends of the zipper on both sides seem to be tied down as opposed to being detachable. Could’ve potentially squeezed a few more item in the main compartment.

    Indeed. The zippers tie-down webbing on both side seems to be for cosmetic purpose only. An ajustable webbing version could be an interesting upgrade in a future version.

    Hi there! Thanks for the excellent review. Have you tried to carry the bag on the bike while folded? My concern is being able to carry both this bag and the front city bag on my Brompton electric. The nice thing about the Brompton rack bag is that you can turn it around and fix it to the frame when folding the triangle for rolling or to stand the bike up.

  • @2Bikes4Adventure

    @2Bikes4Adventure

    No easily way to carry it on the top tube while the bike us folded. One solution could be to create a DIY platform similar to Platform B from VeloSolo and cut it to be the same width as the rear rack. It could then be used to anchor the Nash (with seat up) when folded. We haven’t tested this set-up however.

    A third option for Brompton rear rack luggage is the Rixen & Kaul Rackpack (which also uses the great uniklip system). It is waterproof. It is lighter. It sits further back on the rear rack, which minimises potential heel strike. (The uniklip isn't in the middle of the bag but as far to the front as possible. Therefore the bag sits as far to the back of the rack as possible giving your heels as much space as possible to pass the bag without hitting it) Here's a video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/n6uAt5ZqdZDLf84.html I use this bag when I go camping with my Brompton. I also like that I can sling it over my shoulder, carry the T-Bag in one hand and my Brompton in the other hand when changing trains. Being able to move everything in one go is nice.

    I agree with brompton traveller that best setting is FRONT(30L10KG ) REAR(50L10KG), but for this video, it think the rear bag is much better if it is a backpack. so if the klickfix mount can convert into a backpack, it would be much easier to carry with.

    The Brompton touring rear bag “holy grail” would have a large capacity (enough for camping equipments), solid/easy anchoring system (UniKlip is a good starting point), include backpack shoulder straps and ideally be waterproof (à la Ortlieb).

    My holy grail is a waterproof backpack that can fit on the Brompton front mount when I'm riding the Brompton, and then move to a rear rack when I decide to take a different bike. I wonder if this KlickFix mount will fit on the bottom of an Ortlieb Office Bag? That's what I'm currently using.

  • @2Bikes4Adventure

    @2Bikes4Adventure

    Totally agree. Would also add “20 litres or more, adjustable roll-top and external attach points (ex.: water bottle holder)”. The Ortlieb Office bag dimensions are almost identical to the Vincita Big Nash (at least for the Office bag we own). So, the UniKlip would indeed work. Our Office bag came with a removable U-shape stiffener lining the bottom and sides of the bag. The UniKlip fasteners would have to be attached through that stiffener as the Office bag bottom without the stiffener would likely be too weak to support the weight of a fully loaded bag.

    Despite the larger size, the maximum rack capacity remains 10Kg. A 6speed (C Explore) with a 44T chainring should be able to handle it.

  • @2Bikes4Adventure

    Good question. One could indeed worry about the shorter length and “tapered” nature of the advance roller (P/T-Line) rack. We do not presently have access to such a rack to test, so we cannot confirm either way. However, some regular Nash customers commented on the Vincita site that it attaches correctly on their P-Line. Since both the regular and Big Nash have the same UniKlip mechanism, odds are it will work with the Big Nash as well. If you send us the dimensions of your P-Line rack, we could confirm (or invalidate) the theory.

    Very nice bag indeed. Large volume, side pockets, extendable cover flap (with attach points), easier to “park” the bike… What is not to like? PS Is the load high center of gravity noticeable when riding?
