"Blood Upon the Risers" is an American paratrooper song from World War II. It
is associated with all current airborne units, including the 101st Airborne
Division, the 82nd Airborne Division, the 173rd Airborne Brigade and 4th
Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) of the 25th Infantry Division, and the 120th
CTS (United States).
LYRICS
Verse:
"Is everybody happy?" cried the Sergeant looking up,
Our hero bravely answered, "yes" and then they stood him up;
He jumped into the blast, his static line unhooked,
He ain't gonna jump no more
Chorus:
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, He ain't gonna jump no more
Verse:
Now there was blood upon the risers there was brains upon the chute
Intestines were a-hanging from his paratroopers chute
They picked him up still in the chute and poured him from his booth
He ain't gonna jump no more
Chorus:
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, He ain't gonna jump no more
Verse:
Now the letter they send home went to his wife and baby son
Madam we regret to say your troopers life is done
But hold your head up high his name is written in the sky
He ain't gonna jump no more
Chorus:
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, He ain't gonna jump no more
Verse:
Now the baby son grew up and said a troopers life for
A jumper like my daddy was is all I wanna be
I only want that I can jump as half a well as he
He ain't gonna jump no more
Chorus:
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, He ain't gonna jump no more
Verse:
Now they send him to afganistan and than into Iraq
The bullet that came speeding out went deep into his back
He hit the ground but his granate found enemy amtrack
He ain't gonna jump no more
Chorus:
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, He ain't gonna jump no more
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, He ain't gonna jump no more

@@rhysson His service records and achievements would disagree. What other generation can truely say they saved the world from tyranny and ethnic cleansing. We should look up to these men and take note of what real men did. Questioned but still done so for the betterment of humanity if only our politicians had the amount of guts courage and common sense these men had under their fingernails we wouldn’t be in this mess we are today. Long live the greatest generation

And then, they came home, and did the best that they could to put their lives back together again. To have families, pick up careers and for the most part became good citizens of the Republic. All the while carrying the burden of their war experience that for many was only spoken of when in the company of their comrades. I know, my father was one of those men.

He had amnesia for a short while due to his shock for a few months maybe and was fighting the nurse rendering Aid to him not knowing where he was when an officer told him the war is over for you son on board a C-47 heading back to England.

I remember hearing this song way back in 1956 while stationed in Germany with the 11th Airborne . No way I could remember all those words. Reciting my general orders was tops for me. I entered an E-1 and eventually worked my way up through the ranks and retired an 03 CPT. I have absolute respect for those guys that served Airborne and hand salute the Green Beret . I remember all those things going from Get Ready to stand in the door. My first Aircraft was that shaky C119 that everyone commented it was crashing from the moment it took off, until it landed for another load of guys. I loved hearing this song and this is the first time, I sat through the complete song. Bless you guys and especially those guys in wheel chairs that were missing legs.

I recently had the honor to talk to 2 ww2 vets both best friends. One was a tail gunner in a b17 and the other was a foot soldier that fought in Italy. They were super nice people and answered all my questions but the thing that sticks to me the most was when the tail gunner said "have you ever seen something just disappear from the sky. because I have. When we were fighting in Germany i would see planes get destroyed by flack." he said "we both know none of those boys made it and some of them were my friends."

I saw a video about a soldier now and a ww2 vet the ww2 vet tells the soldier that he's been through a hell of a lot more than him because instead of making a single war end with a few battles they want to drag it out and fight millions of small skirmishes. Forgot to mention the fact that this battle with Afghanistan has gone on longer than ww2.
