1.6×0.71=1.136 EF lenses in APS-C r cameras have 1.136 crop factor.

It will be easier to multiply 1.6 x 0.71 = 1.136. By these you get the crop factor that you can multiply on focal length of any lenses you use with viltrox speedbooster.

The extra stop of light is a pretty huge deal as well! That being said, I have this exact setup as well as a viltrox speedbooster with my ef-m bodies. the ef to efm speedbooster gives me the extra stop in aperture for all my lenses. The ef to rf only gives me the extra stop on my sigma 50mm 1.4 art and canon 70-200 f2.8 IS mk 1. I do not get the extra stop with my sigma 20mm 1.4 art, sigma 30mm 1.4 art or sigma 85 1.4 EX. I hope Viltrox will fix this.

Strange you experience different functions depending on what lens you are using.. 🤔 But yes, the extra stop of light is also a big advantage that I didn’t talk about.

What firmware version do you run on your r7 ? On mine 1.2.0 and the viltrox speedbooster doesnt work....

To "reclaim" the original focal range of your full frame lenses, the speedbooster reduces the image of image circle of the lens. As such, serious dark corners appear in images as what you'd get if you mount an crop-sensor lens on a full frame camera.

I have this exact same speedbooster, Viltrox Ef-R3 and I have autofocus issues when a subject is not close to the lense and I'm on 24mm, when i zoom in to 70mm the autofocus starts working...I have it paired with EOS R

The minimum focus distance will be changed ( lengthened) when this speedbooster is mounted, the user manual said.

I didn’t experience any issues with the IBIS due to the adapter 😊

You didn't mention a very important thing. Any lens with that speedbooster, gains one stop of light. For exemple a lens that is f/4-22, becomes a f/2.8-16 lens.

I haven’t tried that combo so it’s hard to answer that question.. but I didn’t have any issues with the adapter so my guess would be that it would work 😊

Hi Roger. This is a nice video. I have a question. Can it perform infinity focus? I paired my R7 with EF-R3 PRO but I can not focus at infinity so I return it and looking for EF-R3.

@@googooguu So I received my EF-R3 yesterday from Amazon and as soon as I put it on my C70 I could not focus to infinity. I looked up the adjustment and within 90 seconds it was focusing perfectly. Can now confirm that it works.

I have the latest firmware update on my R7, and the EF-R3 doesn't work. The F-stop on My R7 shows "F0" and cant be changed. Bummer just bought the speedboaster after seeing this kind of video's. Thank you though :)

Strange situation! Not available anymore in Belgium and 'probably' discontinued by the manufacturer... Too many issues? I recently bought an R7 and am looking for a second handed R6 now. There are less other options. Any comments?

I think it’s more that the manufacturer is hit by Canons strikes against third party RF manufacturers rather then there being to many issues. Mine works perfectly. But to be on the safe side buy original canon and you will be safe.

An aps-c lens is made to project an aps-c image on the aps-c sensor. An aps-c lens doesn’t project a big enough image for the speedbooster to “shrink” down so you would end up with big black parts around the image if you use an aps-c lens on a speedbooster.

If you use a lot of third party glass, you might not get the extra stop on all of them.

Ok, so this sounds like a perfect solution to the lack of RF lenses available today. I do have some questions if anyone has it and can confirm. Does this adapter affect the autofocus on the R7? Does the IBIS still work and are there any issues? Does the adapter affect EXIF data?

I haven’t had any AF issue with the one I got. IBIS still works and no, the adapter doesn’t effect EXIF data 😊

Yeah, unfortunately they have. No third party accessories is available for Canon. But there is rumors that Sigma might be allowed to produce lenses for the RF mount later on.

Sorry, I bought one to correct what I consider the worst feature of the R7, namely the lack of an RF superwide. I already had an EF 16-35 so thought the 11mm equivalent would be great. It turned out that the image at 16/11mm was so unsharp as to be unusable wide open but better at f/5.6 and good at f/11 so I really just got a speed limiter to accomplish my desire for 11mm. It was a lot better at 35mm (25mm boosted) but still not good wide open so I'm better off using the bare adapted 16-35 which gives that equivalent on the R7 crop sensor. I suppose getting the 11mm f/5.6 that is actually useable is something but the Viltrox is not nearly as appealing in use as it seems on KZread.

I've 7 EF, 2 EF-M & 2 EF-S lenses. Everytime I look at them I can't help but be depressed about how they are all so irrelevant now from video point of view honestly after the new kid on the block - The Sony FX30 has arrived. RIP CANON.

Sony is really pushing out some great gear at the moment. And the ability of using third party lenses on the Sony FE mount is a great feature. It’s to bad that Canon has taken away that possibility for the RF mount. But this Viltrox EF-R3 adapter might help on that point for people that has a lens collection of older EF lenses, now they can be used again with the R7 and in addition to that, you almost get a full frame camera out of the APS-C sensor inside 😊

@@Abhshkraj Depends, if I mainly shoot video I would pick the FX30. If I was shooting mainly photo I would pick the R7. If I’m a hybrid shooter, I would probably pick the R7 also.

The dynamic range, low light capabilities, crisp 4K unlike the line skipped on R7 and many other reasons just make it a much better camera at the similar price point. Canon & Nikon are dying a slow death, Sony & Fuji are the game now.
