I had the pleasure of speaking to one of the stunt coordinators for Furiosa. I believe he also worked on Fury Road. George and his crew take these movies very seriously and are the real deal when it comes to action. It’s very exciting to see an outside perspective on their work.

@@musashi939 Furiosa was taking Immortan Joe's wives away from their captivity and escaping to the place she was kidnapped from as a child. When they finally escape from their pursuers and meet the remains of Furiosa's people they discover the place they were trying to escape to no longer exists, having turned into a poisonous bog. They initially think they have no option but to keep travelling into the wastes and hope they find somewhere before they run out of supplies, but then Max points out that Immortan Joe has pulled all of his soldiers away from his citadel to chase them. If they can circle around and beat Immortan Joe back to the citadel, they can take over it and lock his forces out (because everyone is only loyal to Immortan Joe out of fear and if he doesn't control the water he doesn't have any power). Really not that difficult a plot to understand. You'd kinda have to be stupid (or not paying attention because you'd already decided it was stupid) to not pick up on that.

I think the big thing with this movie is to point out, that basically nothing is cgi'd except weather and landscapes. Like the point of the stunts being done real, which is craazy. Since some of these cars were for example really hard to drive for so small windshields etc. Some of the made cars weren't even used for deemed to be too dangerous. The head stunt coordinator broke his leg(s) when they filmed Mad Max 2 because the director is very purist wanting stuff to be as close to done practically as can. Like that is an aspect that people can debate on, the safety and rather cgi'ing stuff. It still just cannot be denied that things look and gives a way better feeling when done real. Like when they flipped the whole big truck in Nolan's Batman Dark Knight, I do think there is a lot more to that than just cgi'ing it. To me personally it get's really boring when big robots like in Transformer series are fighting and destroying buildings. Not taking away from the work of it but in my opinion cgi works The Best in movies like this one or Parasite where it is to enchance the landscape/storytelling (not just to do big action cgi set-pieces). Like you are not reeally even supposed to see that there is cgi atleast to distracting levels. Otherone that is more than fine is things like adding people in a shot like Game of Thrones did with the army camp stuff etc. I just don't like too much of cgi, especially when it's the main-focus and not the story or not done in some really clever way.

This movie was a stunning achievement. A pure action movie - scarcely any dialogue, pretty much a car chase from start to finish - but it's also one of the finest movies of all time. George Miller showed everyone how to do it properly. I only wish he had enough time left on earth to make ten more like it. It doesn't matter how many times I watch it (I've seen it at least 20 times), it leaves me stunned every time.

  • @RangerHouston

One of the beautiful things about George Miller’s style is he writes these movies to be just as understandable if you were to mute the audio. The themes, stories and characters often transcend cultural boundaries and it’s awesome to get to share that because it does away with the language and culture barrier.

Important about Mad Max Fury Road is also the influence it had. Since the 1990s, movies having increasingly been relying on computer effects and no matter how good those effects are, if you use too many, the scene looks fake. We've seen this in Lord of the Rings, the Star Wars prequels, and tons of other movies. Actors were complaining about having to act against green screen all the time. Ian McKellen cried during the filming of The Hobbit because he had to do every scene as Gandalf alone while the hobbit and dwarfs were together. Fury Road changed the direction of the movie industry to more real, practical effects. It still doesn't have a single frame that isn't touched by the computer, but the big difference is that what happens in the center of the screen is always real. The fake stuff is to the sides, it's the colours, the backgrounds, the massive dust storm, but never the vehicles and the people. CGI can be great, but it must be used sparingly, and only for the things that can't be done any other way. That's the real lesson of Fury Road.

This is the 4th movie in the series. Fury Road was originally written in 1997 and was supposed to take place 25 years after Thunderdome with 41 year old Mel Gibson playing a 50 something Max, after 18 years of rewrites and delays it was set just 10 years after Thunderdome with a 40ish Max and Mel was too old to play him, enter Tom Hardy. Mad Max (1979), Mad Max 2 (1981), Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (1985) make up the original trilogy. Fury Road is the first of the second trilogy, Mad Max: Furiosa is a prequel retracing Charlize Theron's character from this movie, how she grew up, lost her arm etc. (which I think happened in a Thunderdome death match), it will release in 2024, and Mad Max: Wasteland is in pre-production and will be picking up right where Fury Road ended with Furiosa ruling her kingdom and Max as her General.

Please let my friends know that the issue of nuclear war has been studied since the end of WWII. There have been so many nuclear weapons created that it doesn’t matter who fires first, EVERYONE loses. Millions would be killed in the fires and nuclear explosions. Scientists have calculated, rather sadly, that if a nuclear war started, the ones killed immediately by the explosions would be the lucky ones. You may want to show our friends a video on “the year without summer.” I don’t recall the century, somewhere between the 1400s and 1700s, from memory, the volcano Krakatoa erupted and put so much ash and dust in the atmosphere that scientists and geologists can find a thin layer of volcanic material the world over. The dust and ash cloud was so thick it caused year-round snowfall. I recall seeing an oil painting of people ice skating on a pond made at the time. The problem was the painting was made in summertime. We have written accounts that back up the accuracy of the painting. Detonating hundreds or thousands of nuclear weapons, essentially, simultaneously would throw up more dust and ash than any volcano. It doesn’t end there, though. At least with a volcano the ash and dust isn’t toxically radioactive. The explosion of nuclear weapons would wrap the world in radioactive fallout that, again, would make it seem that the instantly dead were, in fact, the lucky ones. This movie does a great job of showing how survivors wouldn’t just struggle to eat but would be rife with cancerous tumors. Nuclear war would poison the planet and every human body not instantly killed.

@@tbone2646 It’s certainly a topic many people don’t think about or don’t want to think about. There are accounts that are publicly available, much more out of the West than the former USSR that are frightening and sobering that I know most people are blissfully unaware of showing in the history of nuclear weapons of just how many accidents and near disasters our planet has narrowly avoided. I’m not even talking about the Cuban missile crisis. An American bomber carrying at least one nuclear weapon crashed into the ocean off, from memory, Spain. We know, as I said, less about the former Soviet nuclear weapons but I’ve read accounts of a Russian missile that almost launched due to a wrench or some such being dropped into a silo. Another account relayed a launch being avoided by a heads up technician flipping some kind of manual switch at the last minute. It’s not even the missiles themselves that are problematic. I’ve read an account that some sort of bug in the Soviet early warning system that gave an indication to the Russians that they perceived, falsely, that they’d detected an American launch and every protocol the Soviets had in place called for a launch but the order was overridden by a relatively low-level Russian officer, from memory a Colonel or some such, who had the moral courage and intelligence to delay launch to wait for more confirmation of the launch that never came. The colonel used his intelligence to determine that the Americans hadn’t made the sorts of moves and preparations that would signal an actual imminent attack. Consider the nightmare scenario that the systems and protocols called for a launch where time was absolutely critical but a single man contravening policies said, “Let’s just wait a second before we destroy all humanity!” The whole history and philosophy of MAD and deterrence and SDI are truly frightening even without a single launch happening. Let’s examine some of the realities with some simple thought experiments. You’ll be the US/the West and I’ll be the Soviet Union. So, we both have our ‘swords,’ the missiles but I determine or detect that you are attempting to deploy a ‘shield,’ some system or technology that will intercept my ‘swords,’ whether a sky-, space- or ground-based system or some combination thereof. Now for your ‘shield’ to be effective you’ve got to plan to successfully intercept, let’s just say, for argument’s sake, you calculate you’ll need to stop hundreds of missiles more or less simultaneously across tens of thousands of miles. That means that wherever your anti-weapon weapon system is based, it’s going to take multiple nodes to cover as much space as necessary and that means that your system can’t come fully online simultaneously. I’ll see you working on your system as your effective coverage will grow from 0% on day one to some number higher than that as more and more of your ‘shield’ comes online. Let’s quickly examine what the requirements of your ‘shield’ are. You might try going with an energy-based system, using lasers to overheat my missiles in flight. Maybe you go with some sort of mechanical system; either anti-missile-missiles launched from the ground or perhaps you park some satellites in orbit with batteries of projectiles that shoot, say, tungsten rods to slam into my missiles. Well, it’s going to take a while for you to launch enough satellites to create an effective screen and I’ll see all of that while it’s happening. So, what will I do? If I allow your system to be completed, then my nation will be at a distinct disadvantage. From your point of view you maintain that your ‘shield’ is inherently peaceful, it’s just a system to protect your people. From my perspective, though, it seems that once your system is in place, you’ll have every incentive to launch your missiles at me, safe in the knowledge that my counter-strike will be ineffective. On day 1 of your program your defense is at 0%, same as me with no shield. Every day you work on your program, every additional satellite you launch, your protection rises while my lack of a system remains the same or, if I work on my own system, will lag behind yours. So, what will I do? Let’s look at the upper limit of your protective shield: will/can you ever reach 100%? Murphy’s Law says no. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt, though, and assign your shield a 99% effective coverage when completed. Your system being 99% effective still means 1 of every 100 of my missiles gets through. I’m shoooting many hundreds of missiles at you and each one that gets through destroys one of your cities. All of a sudden 99% isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. You’re intelligent enough to realize that ICBMs travel in the tens of thousands of mph. Whatever your system is, you’re setting yourself the task not terribly different than trying to hit a bullet with another bullet and missing by a few meters is the same as missing by a mile. My options, then, are to launch my missiles before your system is fully operational and to acknowledge that your system would be designed to be 99% effective versus the number of missiles I have at a certain moment. I lag behind you technically, so I can’t field my own ‘shield’ or my shield will lag behind yours. What I can do, though, is make more nuclear missiles to make sure that my missiles can overwhelm your system. You’d agree that, from a certain point of view, a system that’s, say, 60% effective is, essentially, 0% effective in the end result. Congratulations, you stopped 60% of my missiles and your country is still a nuclear wasteland. Your ‘shield’ that you maintain was to stop nuclear war actually caused me to launch before my missiles become worthless. As self-evident as avoiding nuclear war seems to be, these scenarios must be studied to keep us from doing something catastrophic.

And I really wanted the kids to make it tomorrow-morrow land, even if their own land was better. I was disappointed in Fury Road. For someone like me, the souped-up hot rods, explosions, the grotesque and stunts (though very cool) are always secondary to a well built story. I was hoping for more of an endearing story. I must say, I cared very little about any of the characters in this. Maybe the next part will have more of a story that I can get immersed in.

Guzzoline, Furiosa, Immortan Joe, etc. Certain blendings and evolutions of words that could be redone for other languages, but it'd be a lot of word. What's their language's equivalent of "Rictus Erectus" or "Vuvalini" or "anti-seed", and so on. Not complaining or anything, because I don't know how it carried over, I just wonder.

There's always cultural things that get lost in translation and that these folks don't pick up on (which is fine, and is part of the attraction to this channel), but yeah, I also wonder how you could possibly translate the names and lingo in this to any other language.

Because this film was recommended by a modern-day fanboy who doesn’t know other Max films were made before he was born, it’s often lost that the reason Tom Hardy’s Max is having traumatic flashbacks of kids is presumably what happened to the kids from “Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome”. As much as .i”m against fanboy Villager Abuse, that one’s PG-13 enough that Babu, and his concern for kids, might enjoy sitting in on.

False. There is no need whatsoever to watch any of the original trilogy to understand this one. Every Mad Max movie is a complete standalone film. There's actually no reason at all to watch Mad Max (which sucks) or Beyond Thunderdome (which sucks even more). The Road Warrior (which was great) is worth a watch, even if this movie made it look slow, dull, and pointless. That's not a knock on Road Warrior, it's a testament to this film's transcendent greatness.

Please inform my friend Sarru that it was discovered, I’d say almost by accident, that placing a powerful magnet inside a tube with copper wires along its surface and then spinning the tube generates an electric field. That invisible to the human eye field can then be harnessed and used to light whole cities. There is a mathematical connection to this operation: the faster you spin the tube or drum, the more electricity is generated. I saw a cartoon presentation for children when I was younger explaining this. In the video it showed a Superman-type character hand cranking the drum saying “If we only had a superhero turn the tube, we could, essentially, have free electricity, but in the real world the price consumers pay for electricity is directly tied to the cost of oil which is burned to power the device that spins the tube.” Surely Sarru has seen a generator that runs on gas, no? Take a broken one and take it apart. You’ll find a drum and magnet inside it. The laws of physics, first described by Sir Isaac Newton states that the generator or turbine is an energy creating system but according to the laws of physics, the energy or ability to do work (work = power homes, turn a car’s engine, whatever) can NEVER be 100% or above. This means that you must ‘spend’ energy to create energy. For hundreds of years thinkers and builders have dreamed of a machine, a system, that could have more output than input but failed every time. The quest for a ‘perpetual motion machine/system’ has led to those desk toys you’ll see in movies and perhaps real life where a cleverly constructed series of small metal rods and wheels and joints will run a surprisingly long time by simply setting the apparatus in motion. They’ll keep swinging and rotating for quite awhile with no additional energy/input but, because of even slight amounts of friction in the air and in the joints of the device, eventually the device will slow and stop. Search Google images for ‘desktop perpetual motion machines’ and you’ll see what I’m talking about. It’s a funny thing, if you think about it, humans don’t actually need oil, can’t eat it, causes lots of wars and corruption and pollution. It would be far better to not burn oil. We need the potential chemical energy in oil to do mechanical work (the spinning of the drum/tube) in order to harness the electrical energy created by the generator but, again, we lose some of the energy at every step. Burning oil produces heat and pollutants. The turning of the drum requires energy no matter how carefully we design the drum. So, we do what we have to do for lighting and power.
