You're killing me, Steve. It was so satisfying, watching you clean off the word "Parts", until you stopped and left half the word there...
1:20 The reason you have to push in so hard is because they aren't Phillips screws they are JIS screws which are mildly different sized. Phillips will work, but if you never want to worry about stripping again start using the JIS bits(which are in the Pro Tech Toolkit; it's the row of cross headed bits on the 3rd or 4th row from the top, marked with J000-J1). Edit: It should be mentioned that all Japanese electronics use JIS screws, and will wear much less if the correct bits are used.

Thanks! I've always wondered if there was much difference. Considering Japanese electronics are just about the only thing I tinker with, you probably just saved a lot of screws from eventually being stripped out LOL

Alot of people don't realize that about some of the Nintendo consoles now using those types of screws, when I replaced a joycon rail on the OLED, I had ordered a specific set of Jis Drivers from Ifixit and they worked great

One of the most devastating feelings I get when repairing stuff; is knowing I spent a lot of time, from hours to sometimes days, trying to fix something. Only for it to still be broken in the end. Also, one of the most satisfying things is spending a lot of time on something and it being fixed. One saps your moral, but the other gives such a good high and great feeling of satisfaction combined with knowing that time was justified because it's working now. Unfortunately, I've experienced the former more times than the latter haha. So glad you were able to fix that "modded" OLED switch.
WHAT THE.....!!! I feel robbed!!!! I didn't get to see you place the PERFECT amount of thermo paste...heart broken, I feel dirty........... lololol.
One thing I've noticed about repair shops is that they dont want or know how to replace chips. It's why I like your videos, you look at almost everything that could be wrong with the devices.
I wasn't aware of this channel. Its more my style too with long format! Hope the Tronix family is hanging in there!
i do enjoy the extended versions more than the short versions
I’m a huge fan of your main channel. So glad you started this long form channel! I’m not too skilled in electronics repair, but it’s so fascinating to see the inner workings of all this stuff. Hope all is going well with your recovery!

Never ceases to amaze me with how intuitive you are when it comes to fixing things. People can learn the skills but not everyone has your natural talent with deduction
3:36: nah the factory thermal paste is pink. Someone replaced it. But it was either replaced a long time ago or they used shitty paste. That's definitely dry as hell.
33:33 I would prefer to ispect theboard under thermal camera to track the shorted component rather than replacing the entire board
I have always loved watching you fix stuff!! praying for you and your family!
I still can’t believe that #3 started up after you fixed those capacitors. Given the state it was in when you first opened it up and saw the failed mod work.
I recently discovered your secong chanel and i love it so much! I love these extended versions! I hope everything goes well with your recovery!
Prayers outbound for a full recovery.
I think the modded switch was a Picofly installation based on the locations. Good luck with your treatment!
@michaelburns4020
2 ай бұрын
ALL mod chips use those locations. Doesn't necessarily mean it was a picofly. They all need dat0 (under the emmc on the other side), cmd, clk, gnd, +5v, and a flexible cable with resistors soldered to the apu, for glitching the boot process. Oh, and reset.
I just can't believe you made #3 work - that's absolutely amazing how you managed to put all these random parts together and make it work! That's the skill!
Hi I see all your videos, especially the consoles fixes as they are so much informative and pleasing to watch. You work in a way that's so peaceful and precise, I can learn from your repairs! I never repair a console yet but I probably get into this as soon as possible and I can use lots of your videos as a guide. I hope you get well, I was a little sad with your announcement in the previous video. Greetings from Marche, Italy!!! :D Edit: grammar error

The mod on the OLED switch is done to install a modchip.
Amazing thanks really enjoyed the video 😊
Great job!
That botched mod was a testament to your skills and attention to detail. That looked like a lost cause for sure.
Just found your other channel Steve. Fantastic info as I have a couple of extra Switches with “issues” 😆 One does an odd thing where 1 joy con doesn’t work when attached to the rail, but works when bluetoothed. Just you showing how you strip down, and diagnose really helps! Hope you’re feeling ok too.
Awesome to see you had success with these. Last one a worked on replacing one of the chips I blew 3 capacitors off the board lol. Had my air too high by accident.

I see you more often now. Awesome !!
its nice having spare parts to fix things. one thing i like to check is with an old damaged ribbon cable that obviously cant be used anymore but just to check the connector before you risk damaging a good one or damage it more to the point where you have to replace it.
Well done Steve. Take care.
25:50 Same thing with an xbox one hdmi port for repair i recently got, just going to replace the port, seems way too difficult to bend those pins back in such a tight space.
Thanks Tronics an honest video of fixes, we fail and we win, but thanks for an honest one where everthing does not work
Whoever challenged him has got a load of nerve because he can fix a load
Tying a switch from a rent to own….um…put 50 bucks aside per paycheck and in about a month and a half or so depending on how frequently you get paid, you can just buy a Nintendo switch from Walmart for retail. I contemplated furniture from one of those places once, and after tallying up the costs I realized buying the item outright was ten times cheaper.
I was the senior tech at the contract repair company for Rent a center.... holy clapped out trash...... amazing you fixed all these

5:30 why if one capacitor is shorted is no biggie but if the other one is is unrepairable?
@yvesgarcia
2 ай бұрын
I'm not sure but I think the repairable one is shorted due to a faulty chip that is cheap and easily replaceable. Those other ones are shorted due to a faulty CPU, a much more expensive part and technically hard to replace.
I think I missed it, but did you put the perfect amount of thermal paste on the first Switch??🤪

that last fix tho . i would be so upset lol
they were trying to do a mod to install homebrew on switch #3
It's probably not that bad to reball if you have a stencil. Doing it by hand would suck though.
Looks like the previous owner of the OLED was trying to install a mod chip and clearly didn't know what they were doing.

I am so glad you could save that attempted "mod" Switch, the absolute butcher job they did there was appalling. I cannot fathom buying an OLED Switch and ruin it like that.

"I will put a link on your screen so I can hang out with me there." No link 😞
whoever sent that second switch needs to give you a refund and if not a bad review would be totally fair. Likely could of been saved but with how bent the cpu cooler was it probably has ripped pads under the cpu giving you the blue screen.
the OLED switch looks like they were trying to install a mod chip, which involves using a quick-solder flat-flex cable and nobody taught them about the importance of flux.

how about sending it to TheCod3r he reballs switches
Why does reballing is not worth it? You've got a non working item and you have a chance to revive it, worth it all the way. If you meant you're not skilled enough to do it, than that is completely different thing
If you have never done any micro soldering DO NOT start by modding a Switch specially the OLED one. Its the trickier out of the 3 and the more expensive when you mess it up. Original is much easier.
So what did repair shop do? "Try" to fix it, charge money and then say it can't be done? After shorting a few chips? Oy!
GOD DAMN IT STEVEN JUST BE CANCER FREE.. LOVE WATCHING YOU FIXING.. BUT YOUR HEALTH. FAMILY MOST IMPORTANT..
