The most terrifying part of night tornadoes is the fact that the darkness doesn’t allow you to know where it’s at, bear in mind due to thunder, rain and wind it sounds as if it’s all around you. This one was rain wrapped too making it even worse. RIP to all the souls who lost their lives that night. I hope they’re resting peacefully and they’re family gets support during this difficult time.

The heated up atmosphere is jet fuel for these storms. This twister stayed on the ground for some 280 miles -- a record breaker. In hurricane Ida more people got killed in my state -- New Jersey -- then those who were expected to lose their lives in Louisiana. We even had a tornado that destroyed homes. We are in uncharted territory. There are no guarantees against a repeat and intensifying of these events. Do what you can to be safe. Avoid flood zones, etc. As far as I'm concerned, "Tornado Alley" is now practically anywhere. The claim is that it's shifting eastward.

Thankfully we dont have winter yet in the Tropics. that would be terrible climate change for us. I hope US doesn't get all the disasters though - typhoon in winter with earthquake tornado. My friend had to experience flashflood and earthquake during a typhoon, terrible combo, she cant go anywhere, water on first floor, wind and lightning above and floor she's standing is shaking.

From the Department of Incredibly Ill-Advised Idea: standing there filming a tornado in the middle of the night, when it's almost impossible to resolve its direction and ground speed. Don't get me wrong, it's amazing footage, and I've always wanted to see a tornado myself, too, but it's just such a colossal risk at night.

I live in Oklahoma and the worst possible thing you can think of is a tornado at nighttime, rain wrapped, and only visible when lightning flashes. It's kind of like waiting for Michael Meyers in a dark hallway and you only see him when there's lightning. Very scary.

Not me. The earthquake in Utah last year was enough for me. I'd take a tornado any day if I had to pick. Least with tornadoes you have some warning. Earthquakes you have no warning at all maybe a few seconds if you're lucky. The earthquake we had was the first I've experienced it made me nervous after especially not knowing when the aftershocks would be or how strong.

About 2 hours away, that same storm system over our building. We knew it was bad, and no one slept one minute because of how loud the thunder clapped. We were so very blessed that it didn't head our direction as it could have done in a very short time! Seeing the devastation and the accounts of those poor people in its path. Its heart breaking and wish I could be there to help. We will be donating things as soon as we find someone to pick it up, as the news showed people bringing things in their trucks. It's Christmas time, and so many people unaccounted for right now. Keeping them all in my prayers.

Here’s a word to the wise. When there’s a tornado warning, then don’t be out driving. Try and find the nearest sturdy building you can take shelter in if you’re caught driving into a tornadic storm. I sincerely hope and pray that’s a sight that I’ll never see! Tornadoes are always terrifying events, but it’s even more terrifying at night like this. For the lack of a better term, if there’s one silver lining with these tornadoes it’s that these tornadoes had a very fast forward speed. Most of these storms we’re moving forward at over 50mph. The entire horrifying experience with these tornadoes likely only lasted in terms of seconds. I’ve heard of slow moving tornadoes that have lasted for minutes, not seconds like this. It would be pure hell on earth to be in a slow moving tornado that lasted for minutes!
