I finally went by today and broke down crying when I saw what was left. You all have even more recovery than we do. I'm counting my blessings tonight. We love you all dearly.

The red brick house with just the 4 walls standing and no roof is my friend Sara Hobbs' house. She is ok. She was inside it when the roof blew away and it was destroyed around her.

Of course it's very sad for anyone to lose a home or business, yes, but it's especially sad when beautiful historic buildings and houses are destroyed. They represent a town's history and are there for all to admire and be proud of.... not just for those who happen to own the property.

Just horrifying.No words to describe.I live in Missouri and the last time I saw THIS much damage was the Joplin,Mo tornado several years ago that flattened it just like this one.Imagine emergency services like National Guard,ect.Im sure some of those called up to help had their homes destroyed,but still go out to help.😢

It won’t recover. Not that I’d give any kudos to General Tire. But Mayfield was built because of that large employer. Mayfield has been dying a slow death since they closed the plant to move to Mexico. Most of the homes that were destroyed were rental properties and won’t be rebuilt. It’s the sad and brutal truth. If it does recover, it’ll take 25 years or more. Nothing but low paying jobs there anymore.

Absolutely devastating! I can't even fathom how you clean all that up!

I've been wondering the same thing, where do you dispose of a big % of a town? I wish they would recycle a lot of it. I guess they don't want to take the time, risk the injury to do it or don't care.

@@jenmailsouth4155 the vast majority of it is not recyclable the wind speeds have damaged it to badly. It is truly not safe to use for any re builds. It may look like it is fine but there are serious problems with the make up of it that are microscopic. Just not safe to reuse.

@@michellerocco4932 Yeah, there's damage that can't be seen, and if used, would cause failure down the line. Probably the best recyclable things would be metals. Those can be melted down to make other things. Wood items would be full of microscopic damage. Plastics also could be melted and reformed. Paper could be pulped and made into other paper products. (Jan Griffiths).

So sorry for the people of Mayfield Kentucky and surrounding areas. I lived there for two years and they were so nice to me. I will keep them in my prayers always as they recover and rebuild. 🙏

Prayers for ya'll in Mayfield. I remember how devastating going thru Hurricane Ida was but the widespread destruction in Mayfield is completely overwhelming. Praying for a speedy recovery.

OMG it is so freaky to see the brick torn apart and the semi just thrown like a small toy. I feel so frightened and send prayers to all those from this city.

I drive by all of this all the time.. my fiancé was at the candle factory when it went down. I thought I would never see him again. This storm messed a lot of shit up. We still can't believe it happened..

I'm wondering about the people that rent. There won't be many places left. Several of the lower income apartment complexes were destroyed. Hundreds of people are being housed in hotels and motels all around, some over an hour away.

Sadly Mayfield has been dying for many years. Last good large employer was General Tire that left 20 years ago. Short of another large company coming to town. The town is dead.

I wonder how some of the vehicles survived the tornado. I wonder how some of them hadn’t been damaged by the tornado.

I was glad my Grandparents didn’t have to witness this devastation. His mother long ago had boarding house by Police, Fire , court house and they help bring up my grandfather because his dad was much older and busy with business, my grandfather moved to Ferndale , Mi and became a police officer in Highland Park, Wayne county, mi. Enlisted in WWII. They moved back to Mayfield down from Sedalia where my grandmother was born. I’ve visited alot and went back for there funerals. I love the people of Mayfield and so polite and most friendliest respectful people I’ve ever met the whole world should visit Mayfield and learn from them……

There is a great deal of debris that can be salvaged. I pray that there are those who take the initiative to do so.

After hurricane Charlie, one street or disaster looked like the other and didn't seem possible to clean up and get back to whatever normal is, but it has and it will for you. The only thing it left me with (my home was intact btw) was the stress it causes when we get hurricane warnings. You have to talk about your feelings.

It is so sad that for the sake of insurance and the lag for adjusters to get their work done, so little is actually done to clean up the mess of such disasters.

Your not forgotten Mayfield your doing an Amazying job toward maintaining/rescue/recovery . ♥️🙏♥️ we know God will guide you accordingly!🌟🙏🌟
