My Dad was in a band with Guthrie Once when they were Teens, He passed down his guitars to me and I find it so cool how I have a guitar that was played in a band with Guthrie Govan xD

GG use to be my teacher back at the ACM and yup, he is an amazing, wonderful and humble guy! Which guilt did he pass down the prs? He had a tokai strat that he used on sessions and the guitar mags for things like eric johnson covers etc

Not only is he the best guitarist to ever have lived, he might also be the best human. Usually virtuosos are either up their own arse or so bereft of social skills having locked themselves away from the rest of society to hone their skills that they're awkward to listen to. He's a bit quirky, but not so much that it comes across as weird.

i understand you pov. but if there is anyone that deserves that title it is Allan. he went so far he left the guitar realm and joined in with Ravel, Strauss, Coltrane, Parker and Beethoven. But i understand 100% what you mesn bro 🥰

@@NeilRaouf Maybe. Either it's so advanced that my tiny brain can't comprehend it, or it's just incredibly dull and boring. I prefer a bit of distortion and dynamic to my playing anyway. Holdsworth's playing is very flat.

@@Cheximus I’ve always found that with holdsworth. I think cause I haven’t come from a jazz background i much prefer the grittier sound of guthrie. Holdsworth always sounds too out there for me

this is a playlist i put together of Guthrie jamming at a local pub called Hot Hob (i think he lives nearby) kzread.info/head/PLIQ3vCQcbnhgxyyegzvjYAENmj3o9rXIT the Hot Hob channel has tons of jamming videos and, among those, it's quite hard to find the few ones with Guthrie, therefore I suppose hardly anyone knows of them.

I prefer the sound Guthrie had with the Suhr than the Charvel. It seems much snappier, not just on this vid but on others.

Yup, I’m the same! Unfortunately, basswood guitars are balanced tonality wise and I suppose more smoother but they loose all characteristics because of it and become bland with a flat EQ, hence why a strat and gibson are so recognisable

I always wondered what was that Wah sounding pedal he frequently uses, because there was no way he was moving his foot so fast as to open up the sound on each note of his fast runs. Turns out it's an envelope filter and not a wah!
