No, guns are far from illegal in France. With a Category B license for sport shooting, you can own all the good stuff (AR-15, AK, Glocks, SIG, and so forth) as well as standard capacity magazines. But yeah, getting guns legally in France is harder.

Presumably because they are in a country that actually rehabilitates the majority of its criminal offenders and this sort of thing basically never happened since WW2. We can also presume they probably didn't know they had anyone so high up in what seems like a Mexican style cartel that will brazenly pull stuff like this in broad daylight or they'd have had him in an armored car with a full motorcade and a swat helicopter, etc, etc. Frankly I envy them. Ffs, I remember this ex con was working in the same grocery store as me about twenty years ago. Never heard of anyone having any issues with him then one day after the fire alarm cleared the building (grease fires were not rare) instead of the Fire Dpt there was about twenty cop cars and FBI outside then a cluster of heavily armed ATF took him directly out of the building covered with flack jackets and put him in an armored car. I heard they drove him about a mile to the helipad of the nearest hospital and I'd assume on to witness protection or something. Apparently the haggling portion of a lot of very large meth/guns deals if not the exchanges were happening behind the counter by the salad bar for some time. Who knew 🤷‍♂️

Where I'm confused is why they had to whack the drivers. You would think they'd give up the cargo. Maybe they didn't have the choice.

Drugs aren't exactly okay, but keeping them illegal creates a black market that cartels, drug lords, and kingpins always use to obtain wealth and power. Sadly, the black markets often invite enough criminals that do shady business and power struggles that get people killed.

*The car full of men in black hoods drove straight at them and rammed their van blocking it in. Since their van wasnt bulletproofed, why weren't they out with weapons drawn and aimed, ready for something? If you put most people in a uniform they would know to do that even with ZERO training as an officer.*
