France manhunt: cameras record brutal ambush as “drug boss” freed and guards shot dead | BBC News

Hundreds of police officers in France are hunting for an armed gang who ambushed a prison van on a busy road near Rouen in Normandy , shooting dead two prison guards and freeing a prisoner known as ‘The Fly”.
The brutal attack, which took place at a road toll booth and was captured on CCTV, has shocked France. Gunmen opened fire on prison officers, killing two and critically injuring two others. France’s President Emmanuel Macron said “everything is being done to find the perpetrators."
The prisoner, Mohamed Amra, was being taken from court to a prison when a car rammed the prison van at the toll gate. He’s accused of being a drugs gang leader and has been indicted by prosecutors in Marseille for a kidnapping that led to a death.
Sophie Raworth presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Nick Beake in Rouen.

@@JoeBordok how many burglars have access to automatic weapons and would have a gang of men loyal enough to risk death and life in prison to free someone who only steals some jewelry from grandma. Think about it. The motive is clear. The prisoner pays them...and pays them handsomely. Only other explanation is family...and extremely loyal and fearless, but that doesn't mean that is the explanation...it's just a possibility. The former is more probable.

Now is it probable there was inside info, could be. But it is just as easy to know from talking to the guy or listening to news to know he was gonna be going for a ride. Cell phones make it very easy to transmit intelligence from gang member to member as the van moves. @MizrahiChick I imagine that prison transport vans also stop at traffic lights and stop signs. What do you suggest? Should all of France construct special bypass lanes in the entire highway network so they can avoid the toll gates? On a rainy day, the vans might have slowed down due to the wet road surface. Shall we then blame the conspiracy of the weather? The glare of the sun? Criminals with dangerous weapons and a simple plan are clearly the direct cause. Why do you divert blame onto a toll booth?

It clearly isn't the best word at all to describe what happened, but It was "indiscriminate" violence for those two officers because these guys were just doing their work and didn't deserve to be killed. They had nothing to do with "The Fly" other than happening to be the ones affected to his transport on that day, and the criminals shot them dead without giving a shit about those men lives. One had a pregnant wife.

Almost everything in UK is behind compared to other European countries, housing, airports, healthcare, roads, Law Enforcement, right down to the water pressure in the house. Germany's law enforcement took down a coup, Belgium's healthcare ranks 3rd in the world, France has arguably the best water supply in the world, Italy has on average some of the longest living people in the world with a blue zone in their country. Norway's prison system is great too, meanwhile England still hires surgeons and GP's from Europe even though they left the EU. Their own government doesn't play by its own rules, Boris Johnson and Matt Hancock during the pandemic are prime examples. Their healthcare service is collapsing, their teachers and ambulance workers are striking too. How far has the "5th richest country on Earth" fallen.

Al Capone was only ever imprisoned for tax evasion, but I doubt you'd argue he wasn't the king of the Chicago underworld. There's a difference between what is known and what can be proven. Amra had been convicted on burglary and indicted on the fatal kidnapping. It doesn't mean he wasn't involved in drug trafficking. The Independent says he'd been under surveillance for participation in a drug trafficking organization. It isn't very unusual, even in a high-level drugs operation, to arrest and charge criminals on what you can prove to get them off the streets, instead of just let them run amok until you can catch them with kilos of dope in their car. With a lot of high-ranking members of drug cartels, they're only ever in the same room with any decent amount of drugs if they're in a jurisdiction where they basically own the police. Anyway, whoever they thought Amra was before, a cartel doesn't usually do a highway murder spree to spring a random low-ranking pawn of an organization. It's clear through this act that was important to the organization.
