Buffy the Vampire Slayer has a similar episode. Can't remember which one, but Buffy comes home to find her mom dead on the couch due to a complication from her successful cancer surgery. A cracked rib from CPR, a hole punched in a wall and (tell me if this sounds familiar) little to NO MUSIC making every silence drawn out and uncomfortable. VGHS definitely did it better, but I wouldn't be surprised if the writers took some inspiration.

coming back to watch this after all this time is so good now that i’m old enough to actually comprehend shit, dude Ki was really pissing me off this episode but i also realized that was kind of the point. Ki is a girl who was raised with two very loving and attentive parents and Ted is the literal exact opposite. Ki has absolutely no idea how he’s feeling right now and how to help him deal with it, and she was doing all the wrong things. taking a methodical approach instead of realizing that healing isn’t a “how to” guide and not everything has the same solution. and as mad as she made me this episode, I also realize Ki has a giant heart. and while good intentions lead you to do stupider things, Ki, along with brian and jenny, really do care for him and are starting to realize exactly why he is the way he is.

Ki was raised in a relatively normal and loving family, and she didn't meet any obstacles on her way to life, so she is oblivious and at least, irrational in dealing with grief and loss. That's why she really doesn't understand what to do with Ted, or having a mental crisis when she knows the real world is not a game. In addition, she is childish, which can be shown in her: 1. Boredom to lack of works 2. Refusal to give up (Loophole, Social Club, etc.) 3. Willingness to do everything 4. Resort to drastic measures, when someone she knew did it (Wendell + Ted cheating = Ki cheating, Brian + Jenny make out = Ki + Ted make out, etc.) 5. Diamond justice, where she sees everything black and white, and no gray. This, coupled in with everything else, generally leads to her growth, if anything.

I didn't realize just how well this episode was written until I came back and watched it almost 7 years later. Almost all of the dialogue between Jenny and Brian, Ted and Ki, I found it insanely relatable and almost unusually real. When the episode took a turn to portray Teds reaction to grieving over his dad??? Wow. Almost driven to tears. Too good, this show. All of it.

Such an incredible episode.

⚠️⚠️SPOILER WARNING⚠️⚠️ This is why Ted seemed to be (or is) really needy and attached to his friends. They are the only people Ted has. He grew up with NO ONE loving and taking care of him. He only had his dad which didnt really give a single crap about him :( For those who hates him because of how he's needy or acts like a douchebag to his friends, he apologized for being terrible to his friends later in the episode. Ted suffered a lot. He wanted to feel loved because from the past years of his life, he didn't feel a bit of it. That's why when he found Brian's friendship badge on the floor, he got really disappointed. I'm sorry for this long comment, I'm just defending my bby 😭

This... This is it. Not only the greatest episode of the ENTIRE series, one of the greatest videos on youtube. This displays the grief stages of dealing with death more accurate then anything ive ever seen, and made me feel every emotion possible. This episode takes the fact that these kids are teenagers and shoves it down your throat for this episode, while the rest of the series (for the most part) tried to make you forget it, this one brought it back up, and showed how vulnerable they were. Scenes like ki (I think thats how its spelled) crawling in bed with her parents, Teddy needing a place to stay, etc. etc. Plus this even touches on child abuse. They artfully made this still have humor in it that wasn't forced or to relieve tention, but added to it. When Teddy jokingly said "He died doing what he loved, riding his motercycle without his helmet on" I acknowledged it as a joke, thought it was pretty funny, but didn't laugh, i still enjoyed that joke, but it wasn't out of place, it added to the story of Teddies eventual break down, as he tries to act strong in front of friends. This season, we have seen Teds life to go shit, and as it reaches its climaxe, we see his friends help him through like never before. This is movie quality, this is deserving, no, NEEDING of awards, this is fantastic, its psycological, its incredible, and its the definition of not only human emotions, but good story telling and charector developement. This one episode makes up for ALL of season twos static charector developement, this episode is one of the greatest things I have had the pleasure of seeing in my life.

I know this came out 8 years ago, but man this episode was a punch in the gut. My brother passed away in 2018 after spending more than 6 months in hospital. I reacted much in the same way Ted did, smiling and trying to be positive, comforting family members while neglecting my own feelings. Unfortunately, I didn't have the same levels of support that Ted has. Two of my friends actually laughed at me when I broke down and cried in front of them one day. My brother was my best friend and we did everything together, I miss him every day. Major props to the actors in this episode, especially that last scene in the arcade.

After I watched this episode 9 years ago, I sat back and tried to imagine the important people in my life dying, and when I got to my brother, that was when my mind went blank. What would change, apart from everything? He was my best friend for many years when I was very lonely, and he's always been the person I feel safest around and trust the most in the world, the one person who understands me and treats me with compassion. It's strange to see a person for who that horrible worst case scenario came true... I'm so sorry for your loss, and I'm deeply, deeply sorry that people you loved and trusted didn't respect what you were going through, the unimaginable physical and mental pain that grief brings. I hope you're feeling a little better. I hope this episode was a comfort to you. I'm just a rando on the Internet, but I'm smart enough to know a brother like that is a beautiful, irreplaceable person.

Killing Bandit Watch the first and second Harry Potter Movies. Then skip to the last two. That is what ten or more years of acting will do, as well as growing up. These guys may not be the likes of Brad Pitt, or Hugh Jackman, but those guys have years of experience up their sleeves. Some of these guys act full time, some of them do it as a second hobby (Jimmy Wong for one) and they still performed pretty damn well. That being said, I have loved this season the best out of all of them. Why? It has had a mixture of stories to tell, and a different way of telling them and conveying it to the audience in each episode. This one managed the cheesy laughing track gag really well - especially when most people had that old school comedy portrayal. That works very well with few comedy series... and this series pulled it off pretty well. That and the character growth, their experiences, descent and rising back up through the path of high school and life, has been shown really well this season. I feel like they are more realistic characters this season, especially more so than the first season. It manages to give off that old Saved By The Bell TV Series vibe but still manages to have some heart felt moments and time for realistic and depressing confronting moments they have had to face. I, for one, have definitely enjoyed this season so far. I just wish they had more episodes than six.

The way it turns from a sitcom to completely serious, with almost no comedic moments or music for the whole episode once the news hits Ted. Now I know nothing about grief or cinematography but the way they film Ted once he hears his Dad died is incredible. And they didn't just tackle grief, but grief over an abusive parent; Jimmy absolutely kills it, this episode works so well because of his incredible performance.

RavingRoman They are the only parent figures that are shown in a positive light. Ted's mom isn't shown but Freddie was obviously abusive, not only physically but especially emotionally so. Brian's mom and dad neglected him, making Brian terrified of losing anyone close to him in any way. Jenny did mention how her dad took care of her and was a great single dad but isn't really shown or made an important figure while her mom focused solely on career and gaming and did not consider her daughter or her feelings, albeit Mary is trying to be better. Key's dad, while a little antagonistic at first, was only acting like it. Her parents are supportive of Key and help her grow, listening as well and trying to help and understand her. Its no wonder Brian, Jenny, and Ted are not so well adjusted. Key on the other hand, is just a bit sheltered and her actions come out a little awkward or she makes mistakes because she is trying to act out of good intentions most of the time.

Damn, this episode is the best by far, I think. Really captures what it feels like when someone close to you dies, and you don't know how to respond. You want everyone around you to act "normal", like nothing's changed, but then you'll still hypocritically go back into your bathroom and cry about it later. While you don't act "normal", while you lose it. Really relatable.

This is a character development episode that ties in amazingly to the last episode, gives us the sense that the characters have much more depth than a highschool crush and video gaming. Ki is not always in control, Ted is much more than a goofy guy that does comic relief, Jenny is much more than her FPS career and Brian is much more than a talented fps player. Contrary to the comments I fully love this episode and I really hope we'll see much more character development alongside amazing VFX stuff. And the actors are sublime, I honestly didn't expect these guys to be able to act this fucking good. Well done guys, well done.

I think I started to figure this show out. Each single parent represents a different type of domestic problem. The main character's mom represents neglect. Jenny's mother represents control. And Ted's father represents abuse. All of which are represented in an extremist addiction or obsession from our generation of gaming. I think this whole absurd comedy is based around the flaws and addictions of our generation set to an extreme, to create this society that is completely centered around that addiction. The whole point of the first two seasons is to set up this comedy for us all to laugh at the silly and impossible nature of this show, only for the third season to respond with "yeah, it is absurd, this is fucked up."

This is my absolute favorite episode of VGHS, bar none. Its kinda weird, usually I can't really narrow down a favorite episode of a show I really like, or my favorite part of a videogame I really enjoyed playing. I enjoyed the entire experience from start to finish, you expect me to actually know what my absolute favorite part of it was? Well usually i don't. But with VGHS it's easily this episode that's my favorite. This episode was INCREDIBLY well-written. I don't have a lot of experience with loss or grief, but I think the way Ted behaves in this episode is very realistic and it helps to give an accurate represention of his situation. (Which is good, bc unlike most episodes of VGHS, it tackles some pretty heavy subject matter.) I also think this episode has really good pacing and structure. Most of VGHS (this season in particular) is very fast-paced/mile a minute, but this episode really takes its time to tell its story and I highly enjoy that, its a nice change of pace and helps this one stand out from the pack. On another note, I also really like how they subtely had Mr. Swan take extra care with Ted over the course of the episode. He's trying his best to be nice to him and help guide him through this rather dicey situation, and he almost treats him like a son...arguably way more than Freddie ever bothered to treat him. Its pretty subtle but very powerful imo. Anyway, this episode is just great.

20:20 - 21:08 I've watched this show like, 5 times since it first came out, but I've never noticed the amazing details in this shot. Every actor is just so on point with their character reaction. Most of the attention is on Jimmy Wong (Ted), but looking the background, there's just SO MUCH DETAIL it is CRAZY. Jenny is sad, then in near disbelief. Brian is deeply worried. Ki visibly wants to reach out to Ted before he leaves, and goes from sadness to anger once he's gone because of Freddy. It's just so... credible. Meanwhile mr. and mrs. Swan has their own subtle and not subtle way of showing concern. I actually froze the video in the last second 21:08. Brian is sitting in his own thoughts, Jenny is looking to him for connection (because of course she would). Ki is looking angrily out the window, trying to contain just how upset she is. Mr. Swan looks at Ki with the concerned look that only a parent could, while mrs. Swan seems to look around for some way to deal with the situation. The average acting in Hollywood blockbusters doesn't come close to this level of acting. This is incredible art

To everyone complaining that VGHS has turned into a "teen drama," I find it ridiculous to believe or assume that just because the main characters are teenagers that means that the topics of love, death, or human relationships are any less significant, dramatic, or providing of substance to the story. Seriously, how else do you expect the show to wrap up? They play in a championship match or a big game the end? That's the past two seasons right there. We've already seen that. If you want to talk about shortcomings, the only small beef I've got with these four episodes so far, is the lack of Law. Other than that, the show even has it's same kind of humor that it established in the first two seasons so I don't see what there is to complain about.
