definitely, just thought the same thing! i've been watching the show regularly as a kid all these years ago (tho i might not have finished season 3 which, i know, sucks ass, but it is what it is). and now rewatching seasons 1 and 2 and first seeing season 3 after episode 2... it hits different. i'm a young adult, i've been through or am currently going through some of the problems or dillemas shown in the series. and god dang it evolved throughout those 3 seasons! i just whished there were more, but maybe it's better the way it is. nevertheless, one of my favorite shows ever and definitely the best show on youtube ever made

Wow, just wow. The evolution of quality in this series is off the charts. First season I thought "okay, kinda funny and well produced, but the plot couldn't be more cliche if it tried, all the characters are basically caricatures, nothing feels in any way real or relatable. This would be great for a short but an actual series would need a little more substance and emotional attachment to work", but I stuck around because it was still kinda cool. Then second season I was already like "holy cow, the narrative quality skyrocketed from season 1 to 2, the overdone underdog/rivalry plotline is finally over, introduction arcs for the main characters are done, finally things are a little more dynamic and the whole thing has room to breathe." Now it's like I'm watching a whole other show. This actually has a seriously good narrative now, the characters feel real and go through real struggles, the themes are more complex and layered, the cinematograpy got a lot better. It can honestly stand its ground against a whole lot of "real" tv shows now. I'm blown away, glad I stuck it out, can't wait to see how it ends.

Will Briant His antics were occasionally hilarious I'll give you that, but his motivation, plot and character arc were so, so, so cliche. The whole high school underdog/rivalry with super popular guy who also happens to date your crush and dominates the sport/activity you're trying to make a name in is _the_ most overdone story in the universe.

Personslly, I think the second season was the best. It had a strong narrative, more interesting charachters with more solid foundations. But it was stil loyal to what it originally was. In my opinion that was the way they should've follow because now there is this thing that doesnt makes sense. This whole universe they were building since the show began made sense with itself. It was really detailed and well made, and the points it lacked could make place for future episodes. Now this season just forgets about all that, and by triying to make the characters more real and mature, it breaks the hole idea of the show: a simple comedy about a bunch of kids in school. Now it is a completely diferent series with charachters who casually have the same names than in previous seasons. They even throw out the hole videogame-centric world of the start and now is a really minor part of the world. They could've touched this same topics while keeping true to what the series was, but they fell on the cliche that for something to be more mature it needs violence and alcohol (at least they havent fell on the sex part of the saying yet, so maybe it is still retrievable).

I really thought this series was gonna be like the first two seasons the whole time. But the turn you guys took is nothing short of surreal. You displayed so many problems with modern high school. Underage drinking, peer pressure, idolization of sex, desperation, depression, and most importantly, the terrible effects that can turn the best of people to the darkest of places. I am somewhat sad that it did take this route but at the same time I am beyond impressed what you have done.

So apparently too many of you don't understand that this is called "Video Game High School" for a reason. First off, this was one of the best episodes so far. Having said that, what is everyone's deal? If you graduated high school already or if you are in high school, do you not remember the drama? Breakups? Fights? Parties? Too many of you want it to be all happy and cute and everyone holding hands. It would be boring if it was the same exact story as season 1. They are doing a great job with the acting and actual storyline. Quit complaining though!! They are giving us a great series!

VGHS used to a bit of a guilty pleasure. The characters were so dorky and happy-go-lucky and their problems were so distanced from a normal persons that it was a blast to watch. These new problems are very real and bring a lot of substance to the characters. I also think that the cinematography is much better and has real meaning behind it instead of simply cool Freddie Wong effects. I am absolutely loving these changes to VGHS, and I wish there were going to be more seasons along this more serious, real and dark vein. This episode was my favorite so far, and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Completely agree with you. The depth of the emotions that Freddie brings out between the characters really emphasises the dark and mortifying feelings. Brian and Jenny's breakup was a big hit. Sad, extremely sad, made me tear up in all honesty. However these storyline changes bring so much more emotion to VGHS. I hope Brian and Jenny make up 😭

I have to disagree, I think this season is too sad and depressing. I loved the first two seasons cause they were just silly even when bad things were happening in the show. I always felt somewhat uplifted by the happy-go-luckiness of it after watching an episode, however this season after watching an episode I feel bummed out. Real life is depressing and stressful enough, I hate that they changed the mood of the show this season.

Games is unironically the funniest character in Season 1 In Season 2 the funniest character is a tie between ShotBot (gotta love how funny his arc was, also Cheeto was super cute)

I love the character shift for jennys moms, you can see her warming up to jenny this szn and i can appreciate that little side arch

This episode completely FUCKED with my emotions. I went from being worried for Brian, to being super pumped up and excited, and then brought down to utter disbelief. Fantastic episode, I like how this season is showing the dark side of the main characters. It makes them seem more human. Best episode of the series thus far in my opinion

I was thinking the same thing haha. Though he didn't talk to anyone who would know (just the Drifters), so he couldn't have fixed it himself. Though the guy who owned it should have known. It is an alternate reality, even though they try to keep true to a lot of the real world, it isn't that unreasonable to assume that it has more meaning to him, even if he can fix it. It is about the message, not the mechanics.

When I saw Ashley walking up after Brian and Jenny's fight, I actually requested aloud, "Jenny, punch him in the face for me!" You can't imagine the immense satisfaction I had when she followed through. XD It's too bad that directly after that little moment of happiness it goes straight back to wringing my emotions.

one of, if not, the best episode of television ive ever seen, congratulations

I like how during Ted's detention and he's on the 'yard', they actually got some jailbird looking dudes.

SAOA and RvB give this show a run for it's money, but it's definitely among the best

One of the best episodes in the series in my opinions because it had such a great blend of fun, drama, action, and absolutely beautiful shots that can't be easily replicated. I love this series.

i cringed so hard when brian told jenny he thout they were having "dinner"

I must be honest, I'm disappointed in the darker turn of this season. It started out bright and innocent. But now it's darker, more depressing, and littered with sexual innuendos. I'll keep watching the series, but my enthusiasm is waning.

The sexual innuendos were strictly a theme in this particular episode because it was focused around how Brian had the false impression that Jenny wanted to have sex with him. It was INTENDED to be that way for that purpose only. The darker turn was amazing in my opinion. just cause a show doesn't make you 100% happy doesn't mean its bad. This episode showed their acting skills above any other episode, and that is why it is my favorite thus far. Lastly, those moments of sadness make you appreciate the happy ones that much more.

That was easily a massive improvement on last episode and a HUGE step up in this series. My favourite episode so far. So many lessons being taught, so many emotions. You can clearly see a lot of work has been put in to make this episode what it is. Last episode was very poor in my eyes. This hit the spot. 10/10. Fantastic.

The last episode was an homage to shows like degrassi high and 90s mtv pop videos. You have understand what freddy was going for. Some people will miss the concept and see it like you did and some will respect what freddy and his team was trying to say. The fact that it had underage drinking should have told you it was a concept episode.

seven9 Even if it was homage, that episode didn't really make its mark. I felt it really didn't belong in the series, rather it acts like a minisode of the series. Kind of like How to train your dragon the movie with a 30 min episode of how to train your dragon. Or anime fillers. I don't know how you can improve underage drinking episodes, but it kind of wasn't that meaningful compared to other episodes. I think the whole concept of high school students or college students partying like idiots has been done soo much in movies, its really nothing different from how other series done it. It wasn't that much of emotion and feel of anything. I can say alot of things are a homage to a video, game, yet it doesn't always make it better. Most of the time it does, but there are few homages that don't always do it.

I'm rewatching the show and this season is by far thw best

2022 here watching for the fourth time and it gets even better,thank you all at Rocketjump for making this happen

I really don't see why everyone is criticizing it. This is better than most stuff I find on TV. Maybe someone can explain to me why its actually poor quality and not give me just a stupid opinion. The story focuses on its key characters and builds on them. These characters are far from two dimensional and have a great deal of personality. There are plenty of plot twists and the writers wrap stuff up well. Nothing seems pointless and if it did, they usually disprove its uselessness further into the story. The acting is fine, the visuals are great and cleanly made. The only reason I can see for someone not liking it is that its just not their cup of tea so to speak.

There's a stark and jarring change in overall tone of the series. It was a show with campy and self-aware comedy overtones, underneath which lies a good and heartwarming story. This 3rd season immediately did away with all of that and tried to be another show, which the setting that the show made for itself in the 1st and 2nd season did not appropriately lead up the audience for, nor was it a good setting to have such serious overtones to begin with. That's why there's so many complaints, it's just that people aren't very good at writing down what they feel.

I've been watching since season 1, but I just don't feel like it has changed for the worse. It could be that by season 3, a lot of people are burnt out on the theme. I wouldn't know for sure, I myself am enjoying it a lot.

Let me make a comparison. The harry potter series was very innocent at the start, but a few books in and it got dark fast. Now, VGHS is getting really dramatic, but I still feel they are able to play into the self aware humor. The humor might be less noticeable within the deep drama we have going on in the third season. I will hold my complete opinion until season 4. until then, this is just a theory.

This episode gets me in the feels everytime, great acting and one of the best shows of all time

God, I miss this show, I remember when I was in middle school and I’d watch it all the time, I religiously watch it every year, and the best part is it gets better every time, especially the iconic episodes that stick out from the others, the pause before a answer, I’ve remembered so many lines, and most of all, this show made me fall in love with video games more, but something that most importantly this show made me aspire to my passion even more and that would be drifting!

Stop doing cliffhangers i have to study :o
