In this video Asha from Skatefresh virtual skate school analyses Mar's video from Alicante showing her one legged transitions (lions) or forward three turns on inline skates, giving feedback and practice suggestions for improvement.
Most skaters focus on the skates and their movement which is important when learning new skill. However, smoothness and fluency will only come when the upper body is integrated with the movement and rotation is correct and sufficient.

    "Hugging a circle" is really a very nice term! Great breakdown as always! I remember a video with Shawn Unwin lerning that trick and he was calling it a 3-turn also, it was about 4 years ago. So the lions came after :)

    Hi Asha here. Yes a one footed transition is a 3 turn and this comes from artistic skating on rollers and ice. The Lions, gazelles etc are renaming of these classic terms by the wizard skaters Leon Basin, Shaun Unwin etc. Must be confusing for those starting up now having double names for skills.

    Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. The more effortless it looks the harder it is to learn and polish. Haha. This technique is quite advanced. Keep practicing the one foot outside edge. Besides, to practice the one foot inside edge is quite helpful since that is the position you end up after turning. You must be comfortable in that position too to avoid a freak-out moment.

  • @SkatefreshVideos

    @SkatefreshVideos

    2 жыл бұрын

    No, sorry I don't. But I do believe in certain things for slalom skaters. Make sure your off cones basics are solid, such as transitions (of various kinds), backwards crossovers, forwards crossovers, heel and toe pivot moves and sequences like grapevine. I have taught many slalom skaters in my time and I am unconventional in that I want to see the manoeuvre off cones and work it and tweak it and perfect it without the cones demanding an action every moment. The move itself has to be smooth, understood and producing propulsion BEFORE I then ask for it to be practiced on the cones. and then a second level of learning and refinement takes place. I see too many slalomers hammering away with the cones when the move itself isn't flowing yet. Like I said, controversial, but the results I've seen using this method are amazing! Try it. My online course for Advanced skaters has many of these skills that help you hone your slalom routines. The Barrel Roll is the free class in this course and can be done as 'flourish' at the end of a line of slalom cones. skatefresh.com/product/how-to-skate-advanced-level-full-course/

    @SkatefreshVideos

    Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Can you be more specific about your struggle? In any case doing the toe roll position in a circle will help. You actually do need to do LOTS of that in order to feel comfortable and in control, before coming to the 3-turns.

  • @BrennenThomas

    @BrennenThomas

    Жыл бұрын

    @@SkatefreshVideos will give that a try too. Is there any specific way we need to swing our free leg?

  • @SkatefreshVideos

    @SkatefreshVideos

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. That could actually be the problem: to consider a "swinging" leg. I mean, it's not like the move in soccer where you swing your leg to kick the ball. It's totally possible to do a 3-turn with a straight leg behind as figure skaters do but it's way harder, and that's what confuse people. You must move your entire body as a unit, so bring your leg in and that will make it easier. Focus on your pivoting leg, almost no move in the other leg. That's why I mentioned the toe roll position exercise, because it keeps your free leg on the floor and everything feels more stable while you go in and out the transition. Only start lifting that leg once the move is comfortable with the toe assisted version. There is an extended explanation by Asha in her advanced course here skatefresh.com/product/how-to-skate-advanced-level-full-course/ And there will be even more of this in a forthcoming wizard skating course.

    This looks so easy for Asha to do, but is actually very difficult. I don't get it completely, like other wizard's trick . 2.5 years inline skating and like a wall that I can't walk. I think I have too little driving stability on one leg.

    Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Scissors is a position where both skates are parallel pointing to the same direction but one of them is in front of the other, not exactly in front but ahead. Besides, one leg bears more weight than the other. This position can be done either forwards or backwards, is used for gliding and many other techniques, for example to use the heel brake or to grass stop you first need to go into scissors position. You can see a video here skatefresh.com/product/how-to-stop-beginner-level/

    3-turns were my worst skill on my ICP-2 exam many years ago. I still can only do forward outside 3-turns on my left foot! Way easier to do on ice for anyone who's still trying to get a feel for it. If you're really stuck even with the assisted turn, try adding a "butt swing". Swing your butt to rotate. It's ugly but it's a start!

  • @SkatefreshVideos

    @SkatefreshVideos

    2 жыл бұрын

    It's everyone's worst skill in an ICP exam! And most scary. Yes adding the butt helps to commit to the turn. I can only do it by flipping the heel wheels around. The full skate scribe on the ground is too Gard with 3x110s and no rocker! I'm trying some Endless and NN Frames soon so Im curious if this will help.
