How to Rollerblade Backwards - Skating Practice
This is a rough tutorial on how to rollerblade backward, I go into the mechanics a tad, but I’m hoping to make a more nuanced tutorial soon. I just hope that this will help some folks in the meantime.
Skating backward is one of my favorite things to do, but it’s imperative to do so in a way that ensures you and those around you are as safe as possible.
In this video, I go into the importance of staggering your feet, looking over the correct shoulder, how to open up your hips and shoulders for MAX visibility and control, and even a touch of edge work that greatly benefits skating in control when going backward.

these channels are starting a small revolution. i went skating for the first time today after two decades off and i can say i'm still 80-90% there. but with these videos and consistent practice on the fundamentals, i know i can be better now than i ever was as a kid (i'm gonna be pretty sore the next few days, tho - some of these muscles haven't seen use in a very long time)

I'm on the same boat 🚢!!! I went indoors and omg I felt like I was kid dashing around the blocks in nyc! I'm looking to buy my first real adult pair! I always wanted an amazing pair of blades when I was a kid now I'm 33 and boy I'm just overwhelmed with joy!

Thanks for all the help dude. My wife is great at blading but not me. We watch your channel all the time. But I watch these help full videos when I'm not around her so I can impress her with my quick learned skills
It looks like @8:03 knowing your edges and trusting your skate setup is everything. It makes perfect sense. Can't wait to try this technique!
Wow this is amazing!!! I am learning backwards bubbles right now and that makes so much sense about the visibility and staggered form. Going to come back to this video a lot! Thank you!

@@thestutteringskater or even treat this as a first draft. Go out, wing it, see what you can get from it, and then re-write what you improvised with the benefit of hindisght, and then film it again. I know that it’s easier for me to think in the moment than it is to come up with stuff in advance, but then I always come up with better ideas when I look back on it.
This will come in handy! Much appreciated.

I saw you at the skate park, Thursday I said that I liked your skates.
Loving the content man. Excellent instructions.
Super helpful I’m going to try this weekend!🎉
Opening up your view like this while going backwards is a great tip! The side for me to open up would be my left too, I think. I'm already using it to look back while bicycling so it's pretty intuitive for me already. The fluidity you have on skates is mesmerizing! I have that kind of control with my bike but I would love to get like that with skates too :) Thanks for the great video!
Thanks! Great tutorial! It covers much that the others i saw don't
ace... thanks, i need all the help i can get!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge ❤️ I’d like to share one suggestion with you, if you continue to make tutorial type videos, could you please make sure they’re in 1 playlist? Keep shredding, keep being awesome, and stay safe 😊
surreal, não consigo me ver fazer um terço disso. comecei a patinar faz uns 3 meses, no total acho que patinei umas 20 vezes, me ajudou muito assistir seus vídeos, é uma inspiração para mim. é fantástico

Hi there. New to the channel and I love it! 1. Do your knees hurt? 2. Were you a dancing student in the past or present ? 3. What skates do you use ? 4. How long have you been skating for ?
I need to put more practice into this. Real new to skating, but whenever I stagger and try to look back my feet turn too, and I end up spinning out. Need to get my feet independent of the rest. Great video
Merci Monsieur
please Ari, make more video tutorials like these!! Make one about urban rollerblading ): love your chanel

hey man, really enjoying the videos after just finding your channel! im looking to get back into rollerblading but never really been sure what kinda skates im looking for. i love, love, LOVE how you just cruise around the city in and out of traffic. you have any brands that you vouch for? im not looking for top of the line but something that is well made?
Don't laugh but I never realised that we can do the same exercices on ice with rollerblades. Like I always just rolled with rollerblades and exercices on ice (completely new to it) Thank you for openning my smol brain ^^' If you can't go on Ice, do rollerblade btw I saw your short and my passion came back the edit is amazing and the way you both rolled was 🔥(Think it was rollerblade way/path in NY if I'm not mistaken) 🌹
Thanks so much for the video definitely explained every aspect of skating backwards for beginners to pros, (Question; what site did u get your White powerslide next skates off of?)

I actually ordered those directly from powerslide but your local skate shop should have them too
Can you please share you music playlist with each video. I’m not a skater (i plan to try it) but love watching you. Music choices out of this world 🇬🇧
Wish I got into skating earlier, looks like a sport I would like without causing damage to the knees too much.
Can you make a video explaining how you film yourself? The fast shots through cars in NYC are really cool.

Thanks for the masterclass! Insane warmup! Just a question... for that trickery, do you even need to rock your wheels or something? I'm a total noob and I definitely can't tell.
Nice vid bro... Hey what kind of blades do you use?
Do you think you could do a beginner skate tutorial…explaining weight shifting and the ins and outs etc…this is my first Time visiting your channel and I’m thinking about getting into skating
Hey jst came bak frm london and they have a huge group that skate around london city it look so cool i brought some skates to join now i cant stop wheels on wheels lessgo plus im frm Australia

What's your go to skates? What skates do you own. I'm getting back in to blading but mine are cheap Rollerblade from Dicks I used to aggressive skate in early 2000s but I like the fast now going backwards just curious what's your collection look like?
@thestutteringskater
Жыл бұрын
My collection is a bit nuts right now, but these are the Rollerblade Twister XT's which I love and are amazing out of the box. (mine are customized here, but the boot is great)
Taking notes for my quads, because I'm still nervous at turning around at speeds faster than 3mph.
Where do recommend we get our skates? I haven't skated in YEARS! and Miss it so much.. have some crazy stories from the time in NYC... in any event.. where do you suggest we buy our skates?
Now I’m curious I would like to see your hockey videos if you are this amazing on rollerblades I can only image how great in hockey please share some
@thestutteringskater

Haha I dont have any hockey videos, I'd love to change that though
im never going to wizrd skate but i feel like being able to do stuff like that would translate well over to hockey.
Do you use 90mm wheels? What kind of skates are you teal and pink skates? They are awesome.

Wow, as if he's not already subconscious or struggling with it you have to hit below the belt
I use the regular type od rollerskates. But I normally dance. But one of my dance partners wants me to use roller blades. Share tips.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😅
One thing I am having trouble with is turning the opposite direction from where I'm opening. For example, looking over my right shoulder and having my right foot back, it's easy to turn to the left (the direction my back is facing). However, when trying to turn the other way (where my chest is pointing when I open up) it's hard to keep my right leg leading behind me and still turn. I see on your video you seem to be bringing your feet almost in line with each other when turning towards your chest and almost pushing out with your trailing leg (front leg if you're going backwards). It's hard to tell in the video the exact foot position when you are turning though. Is this the technique I should be trying to mimic?
Just when i start learning to skate backwards. :)

Love your vibe man. I'm in NYC, any way I can come hang with you? Not at your level, as I haven't skated since 2000.
GYYAAAAATT aye pause tho 😂
When I was a teenager I would blade , I would hit skate parks and go down the ramps . It’s been almost 15 years since the last time I skated . I’m looking into buying new blades , do you have any recommendations?
