i have a soft spot for VCD, as it was the #1 home entertainment format in my region. when viewed through perspective of the past, i prefer VCD over VHS. there were VCD players with disc changers, so having 2 or more discs was not really a problem. it was from 1993, so obviously it was designed for CRT TVs. its basically a low-res DVD, and it was quite fun to be able to play movies on computers back then, while it would not be easy doing that with VHS. its funny to see Disney eventually implemented "Disney Fast Play" which basically treats DVD like VHS/VCD, play everything without menu screen. the support for VCD also surprises me, i thought my BDP wont play it, but it does, and when i pause it, the progress bar does appear. Windows Media Player will detect and play VCDs automatically. that said, i have issues with Chinese and Hong Kong VCDs myself, size of the mandarin subtitle thats too large being one of the reasons. i avoid chinese VCDs as much as i can... but that's just my opinion 😊

I have a couple movies in this format, my father would travel overseas and bring them back to me sometimes. Yeah, you are right DVD killed this format, and as an early adapter, it never really took off in America at all. Most people I know never knew they existed.

I remember a mate of mine who'd been to HK in 1999 had a bunch of VCD movies we could watch on his PC. Drunken Master 2 was a smash. I think if they had come out in the UK by '96 they could have been a hit, but DVD was so much better (and got big here by 1998-1999).

I seem to remember that the Dreamcast could play VCDs back in the late 90s/early 2000s, hence it was popular in some East Asia countries. I could be wrong about that.

That last intro punch got me right between the eyes. Too close to the screen. Once things were up and running, was interested in this. Still lovin’ the posts 😀. More and more if you please.

Oooh. Vintage format. We had Electric Dreams on VCD way back when you couldn't get it on any other format other rathan 2nd hand VHS. SVCD was a much better quality picture but you only got circa 36 minutes per CD. Remember seeing a Queen Greatest hits disc playing in a shop when VCD was launched and it looked hideously blocky. Worth revisiting just to remind us how poor some formats were. Keep punchin'

Yeah spotted it one of your older videos@@UTILITARIANTVUK BTW there was also SVCD format as well I have a lot of original VCD's I believe yousr might be a pirate more pirates than originals about. Some of the originals are really good quality especially the James Bond films/Star Trek pretty useless in todays world.

For a format that didn't last I burned thos video to vcd. For shits and giggles.

I had some vcds for ps1 they played with plug in ad on 💩
